@B33: BZZT wrong. It was my FIRST PS3 game, only because the retailer in Hong Kong where I bought my PS3 forced its customers to buy one game with each unit they sold. I didn't even want to buy a game at that time because I heard they were all craptastic, I just wanted the ps3 as a Bluray player. Turns out I was right, Resistance was as craptastic and retreaded shooter as I could find. Couldn't play past the second stage.

It's the same thing. It's basically just out there saying "Hey everybody check out a little glimpse of what we are working on" And no offense i like Gears but the GoW2 trailer was lame. At least this showed something even if it was 2 seconds

Insomniac has three teams running. One on Rsistance, one on Ratchet & Clank, and one on... ? Well, they did mention a desire for a new IP.

Essentially they are acting like three individual studios with some production overlap. So in other words, before Resistance 1 shipped, Resistance 2 began. So you're looking at a 2+ year development time. Likewise, the engine programmers keep working on the same engine (Resistance 1&2 and R&C:TOD share the same engine) so time is saved that way.

So Resistance does spend time on their games, it's just that because as a studio they are cranking em out on a regular interval, you assume they are not. For a while, Squaresoft was doing the same thing with FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, FFXI, and FFX-2.

Insomniac is reluctant to show much from the game because it's still in development. Work is being conducted on the gameplay and level design first. The idea is to finalize all the substance and content before fully working on the graphic end of it. Their trying to prevent a lot of backlash from happening from fanboys and critics alike who'll judge the game based on early footage of unfinished gameplay. How do I know all of this? Listen to The Full Moon Show sometime. You might learn something.

@Soldrak: Odds are you haven't even played the first Resistance. Which is a shame since it was a fairly good game. Granted it was flawed but not to the point Xbox Fanboys would have you believe.

Anyway, I wish I still had Resistance; it was a decent attempt at an original shooter with some solid delivery. As Insomniac, though, I wish they'd give some more weapons. I saw some weapons in the "making of" that I never got my hands on in multiplayer or campaign.

I think people are being a little harsh on this teaser. As has been mentioned, it really is a teaser for a preview. It's just a way to say, "Watch for a preview in June."

Insomniac has a good 3-4 years experience developing for the PS3, and has released two very respectable games to show for it so far. The first Resistance was the best of the PS3's release titles by far, and R&C: TOD was a solid addition to the franchise.

I expect Resistance 2 to be another solid game, not "groundbreaking" but an enjoyable shooter and a PS3 exclusive which is something that the PS3 is in dire need of.

Reminded me of a less pretentious, shorter version of the halo 3 teaser.

I mean it has the protaginist walking out into a big open space to see *HUGE* ships etc then ending with some blurb that is meant to be key to the whole game.

The only difference is the Halo 3 one was shoved further up its arse but was better directed.

I think the teaser is in-game as it looks like graphics that is the next step better than Uncharted. Evolutionary visual effects.

Hopefully in the next Insomnia podcast ( due out either this Thursday or next ), they will clarify if it was indeed in-game or all CGI.

@DigiMish: I got in close to still image captures of the HD video and it is clear that they are using a lot of in-game assets. I would agree with your assessment that it is a mixture of in-game and pre-rendered footage. The water clearly gives that away as it appears to be inserted on some kind of matte. Look around the pylons of teh bridge, you'll see some clipping. I think that the rest of it was realtime, likely using some sophisticated shaders and dynamic lighting that would likely not see the light of gameplay .

I loved the first game and am definitely looking forward to this one as well. That screenshot of Sgt. Hale watching aliens zip around was to die for (which is probably what I'll be doing a lot of when the game first comes out, thanks to gawking at the pretty graphics while I'm getting shot at).

Oh, and I also like the fact that they brought Sgt. Hale back. He's a pinnacle of what a badass should be.

The one thing I hope is that they don't actually time the game. Some of us like to take the time to actually look around and enjoy the game, as I mentioned previously. I wouldn't be very amused if I got 3/4s of the way through just to find a message stating "The virus has taken your humanity", or some such. I highly doubt Insomniac would do something like that, but...

I have a feeling expectations are going to be too high for this game. The first one was as good a launch game as you could ask for and the story was pretty good (it did take too long to get to the interesting parts though...) But this is just a space marine FPS in the end so there's only so much new ground it can tread on.

What sells this game will be the multiplayer stuff....particularly the addition of co-op. The PS3 has been pretty starved for that feature so far

I won't say anything about how long this one is going to take, it took me 3 weeks to beat the first one due to my normal schedule, this one is supposed to be bigger with larger environments, so I take that this one will take me longer.

In any case, did you people notice the amount of things flying around the screen during those 30 seconds? It's Ratchet & Clank sized environments and they look more or less equally animated. If this is any indication of the amount of enemies you'll have to face... Wow.

And yes, it looked really nice.

Its the gameplay footage which is getting released on June 13th. @kylo4: Honestly, I will not be surprised if they do come up with more games based in the Resistance world beyond Resistance 3. It is quite probable that Insomniac might do a spin-off on the PSP at some point, we've all heard the rumors. It wont hurt as long as the overall mythology of the universe remains interesting. Its a successful franchise and of-course Sony would want to milk it as much as they can.

I wasn't planning on buying the game before I saw it, and nothing in that trailer changed my mind.

Gears of War 2 did a similarly lame teaser for their date announcement.

this might have been known about the game already or mentioned in the clip (no audio this late at night without headphones) but the game appears to take place in San Francisco. The biggest clue is the clear image of the Golden Gate Bridge in the title.

I thought when it was announced earlier this week that first Resistance 2 video was being released that it wouldn't be a teaser trailer for a trailer. Oh well I still couldn't be more stoked for this game. I'm looking forward to seeing the real R2 video on the June 13th.

It's good that they are making this game and probably a third but I hope they don't go "Ratchet" on it and make 9 of them. Shooters are different than a Ratchet game, which kept the same mechanics but was still fun even though they were similar. With Resistance, it'll damage the credibility when we hear "Resistance 7 is coming out and Resistance 2 for PSP2".

It's a good series, but so is Indiana Jones and you just have to know when to stop.

Mmm, didn't really do much for me. I know it's a teaser but it still seems a little light on...everything? It seems like they could've waited a little while longer and put something out that had some substance to it.

It seems a little weird for them to release it so close to MGS4 though. Sony needs all the help it can get to compete against Gears 2 and you'd think they'd want to space their heavy hitters out a little more to try and prevent a slump or a 1v1 so to say. Who knows, there's always a chance for a delay.

Honestly, the first Resistance didn't really give me that epic feel of what was going on in the story. Don't get me wrong, it was nice and all, but it just didn't deliver for me. But this teaser trailer has got me intrigued. The whole "I got 19 hours left to live" line gave me a feeling of 'damn, this is going to be all out' which to me, feels a lot more epic and emotionally grabbing. Nicely Done.

Just what I expected from a teaser. Can't wait for June 13th.

The 19 hours premise sounds quite interesting .... how they bind in the narrative with it. 19 levels ... 1 hour each, something like 24. But, that would be too linear and scripted.
Will be eagerly keeping an eye on this one
