I'm quite happy with the 360 version and considering my PC probably couldn't even run the PC version, i'd hardly say the PC version has it beat =p. Not to mention the hud on 360 is designed for console ease. Its like comparing apples to oranges.

I've not personally bought the Brining down the Sky DLC. Though, if PC owners get the same content free, they better make it free on Xbox as well, i consider it a major slap in the face to all their fan base who have supported Mass Effect on 360 and have also bought the DLC, to then just give PC gamers it free. My opinion of Bioware will go down a lot, otherwise.

Walker

@Zeliard: DLC is used because it's easier for consoles, the distribution is easier and installation of add-on packs a la PC is harder when some of the audience doesn't have the ability to install anything.

PC games have had multiple add-on packs per game in some cases, so to say similar things don't exist for PC is barmy.

I'm not sure why Kotaku is mentioning how the PC version has the 360 one beat, when this game isn't out yet and the 360 has had this title for what, half a year? The visuals are already great and I didn't have to wait all that time.

Spew

Got the game for the 360. I've been playing it a lot since I got my 360 3 weeks ago.

That said...I'll probably be getting the PC version for the enhanced UI and such. If I like it I'll probably sell my 360 version back to gamestop.

I got Bringing Down the Sky...and it's okay...nothing spectacular. I won't miss it on the PC. If it were something on the order of Noveria or Feros...that might be different, but it's not. It's not much bigger than a few random side missions put together on one world.

Seriously PC people (I'm normally a PC Gamer)...you're not missing much...don't get bent out of shape over it.

Why did I get it on the 360 if I knew it was coming out on the PC? Well...I wanted to play the game...and I don't know how well it'll run on my PC, which is a little dated.

thor79

IGN: Can you talk about system specifications yet?

Matt Atwood: We're just waiting on one last approval, we'll have them shortly. What we've been saying is that it'll work well on a machine that's two years old or newer, so it's a very broad market. The goal is to appeal to a broad market.

@uzivatel:
Yeah, it's actually pretty frightening. Microsoft's usage of "points" instead of dollars, combined with how incredibly easy it is to buy more points, is deadly. At least it is to idiots like me who spend more money than they should in general.

But I think the biggest reason DLC is generally sold on consoles and not PC is that PC gamers are long used to things like free mods (some of which can be quite significant) and large, free patches for their games (like that really sweet one coming up for The Witcher that fixes and adds numerous things), so we wouldn't necessarily pay for something like "Bringing Down The Sky" if it was released on PC since it's essentially the equivalent of a mod in terms of size and scale.

PC gamers are just accustomed to it, and trying to change it would be hell. Just look at Microsoft trying to introduce Games for Windows Live, their XBL knock-off for the PC. That failed pretty much as badly as something can fail. With XBL, you have to pay $50/year for P2P. PC gamers know that's ridiculous and would never do that to play PC games online (with the exception of MMO's). So maybe part of it is preying on the relative ignorance of the general console crowd. Of course, Microsoft of all companies would never do such a thing.....

Zeliard

Yeah, heh. You have to pay for nearly every piece of DLC on XBL.

I'm glad Bioware is releasing Mass Effect DLC on the PC for free, though I'm sure it's mostly because they realize that nobody would buy it if it wasn't. PC gamers are not accustomed to paying money for DLC, particularly when we get so many free mods from the community.

Zeliard

@rich8606:
Bringing Down The Sky is a piece of downloadable content for the game. It adds a new planet (it's not what it sounds like) and sub-plot. It's nothing terribly substantial. I bought it and played through it and it was fun, but it should hardly be considered a deciding factor, particularly when the PC is apparently getting free DLC.

Zeliard
