I think most of you guys fail to notice that:
not all of the early adopters were able to get a 60 gb PS3.

Also, the people who bought the 40, 80 got completely murdered by this new release (I am one of these people because I couldn't get my hands on a 60).

All the lackluster next gen games/movies were extremely disappointing. Heck, my favorite game on the ps3 as of now is System Update. It's the only reason why I turn on my PS3. I 'play' it every couple of months.

Thanks a lot Sony for stabbing me in the back once again...

Time to go play my favorite game, System Update, again...

If all it's going to be is a different color and nothing else, I'm not going through the trouble of selling my current 40gb PS3 just to have something that's gray instead of black. If anything I guess I'll just buy the normal black colored system that comes with MGS4. Having the 80gb HD and BC is sure as hell more important to me than a different color. But I'm just baffled as to why the limited edition system would be, as it were, "limited" in that way. But whatever.

Anyway, this wouldn't even be appealing to me if I hadn't got a PS3. The Steel doesn't suit my setup and I think a MGS4 "branded" console is a little much. I think that every electronic should have options on release of those basic color schemes.. black, white, this one carbon (80% black), and for those who like color stuff, red (like the DS steel red) and blue like that last DS blue one as well.

This wholy "let´s make brainding with my product color like Red for Ferrari and Yellow Lamborghini" is stupid. I´ve seen awesome black ferraris and red lamborghinis as well... and as a designer I know that´s important to drive people´s minds regarding products and colors, but let´s face it.. the product is different than a company. McDonalds is red and yellow but you have plenty of choices of burgers and flavous there. And the newers Mac, iMacs and iPods are steel , now pearl white anymore. So why this stupid thing keeps going on and on? Consumers like to have options... avaliable forever. Not limited "special edition limited only 5 of a kind" stuff. Blargh.

The argument that the PS3 console had no viable games it's first year has nothing to do with the features you got in your 60GB launch PS3. The discussion is just going by facts that the launch PS3 was the most feature full compared to all the SKU's.

Though the price was ridiculously high originally, the price cuts came down because Sony realized nobody was going to pay 600 dollars for a game system and they were getting demolished in the race. The 80GB 500 dollar sku is still fairly expensive, I think Sony is getting close to the ball with the 40GB 400 dollar SKU though.

The truth is you can probably sell your 60GB system used for a decent price on ebay because they are more in demand. Use that money to get the MGS limited one if you don't think you'll need the full BC.

All I know is Nintendo is selling a $150 dollar product for $100 more. Microsoft and Sony are working their asses to get to their targets and add, remove features and slash prices everytime the market asks for it. Look around and you'll see that from past gens, Nintendo is the always the most reluctant to drop prices and to let go (Gamecube games still around $40! Fuck that noise!) of their past consoles. We'll also see who will come with the most stupid accessories for the most ridiculous prices ($10 for a plastic wheel wtf).

Nintendo has great franchises, but in terms of console manufacturing, they do not impress. I'd take the risk of RRoD anytime instead of having a second Gamecube with a different shape and waggle remote.

Your arguments seem to contradict each other. The 60GB PS3 was a launch system and the elite was released late in the 360 release cycle. So they are not comparable in anyway other than they were the highest tiered systems at one time.

Sony released the best version of the console as a launch system, so they essentially "made the best console" they could produce (as you stated in your rant about Nintendo). Secondly, the Elite was originally released because Microsoft did not have the clairvoyance enough to see that HDMI and a Hard Drive bigger than 20GB were sufficient. Hell in the end, they eventually added HDMI to all the new 360 motherboards.

The problem is this if you're Sony. This is a specific color that not everyone will like. Glossy black and white are very mainstream while this matted gunmetal color won't appeal to everyone.

So in essence they have to allot a specific amount for this unique color. If not, then where should they stop? You can't just have a production line that's putting out millions of glossy black, white, and gunmetal consoles.

How many times are you taking your fingerprints on your PS3? The only place I touch mine is on the power and eject buttons, so fingerprinting isn't a problem.

Most console packs are either a plain vanilla console with a game or produced in tiny numbers to avoid excesses. For bigger franchises like Zelda and Pokemon there might be enough to justify big prints but otherwise they'll go conservatively.
