@vanderblade: What's left on the Wii now? ... New IP? Yeah. Right. There are several 'new IP' Nintendo releases already announced for Wii (Wii Music and Disaster, supposing that ever comes out), never mind in future. Personally the upcoming Wii games I'm most interested in is not new IP and not Nintendo (oh wait it is, iirc they bought the franchise); I've got an eye on the new Fatal Frame. (Maybe it'll suck, let's see.) Leaving that aside, most of the other whingeing in this thread is a bit tired IMO. How dare they release a game that I personally am not interested in? How DARE they?! Seriously is there anyone, and I mean anyone at all, who didn't expect Nintendo to make extended versions of pretty much everything in Wii Sports (dunno about boxing)? Is there anyone who's surprised that they made one with Mario in? You can boil this story down to: Nintendo is releasing a game with Nintendo characters which will probably be quite good but which most people here probably aren't interested in. OMG start a campaign! Or we could just, you know, accept that Nintendo are kind of allowed to release good games with their characters, and if we personally don't give a shit about a particular game (I don't) then we can address that issue by not buying it. How about we get all the whining done here and then shut the fuck up when Mario Tennis comes out (yes I said when - not if). Personally I'm still holding out for Mario Tiddlywinks.

This is an obviously smart business decision. Why stop milking the cow if it is still the richest cow going round? I'm sure anyone who bought the last generation version of Mario Baseball/Soccer/Ice Skating might get annoyed when they realise they have bought the same game but with added waggle, but that's after they have paid for the game. SNES and N64 had so many cool IPs and the Wii currently hasn't had anything other than first party sequels and a few games like No More Heroes. If they can come up with some interesting new games I would be happy to buy a Wii, but the constant slew of updating games doesn't impress me. I'm sure this baseball update will be good though.

Hey guess what? Mario Baseball isn't even a franchise. It was one game on the GC. That is NOT a franchise. And it wasn't even made by Nintendo. It was by Namco.

Also, that guy who mentioned King of Kong, uhhhh you really need to start using a phrase other than "casual games." I know that's the cool buzzword to use these days but Donkey Kong is anything but casual. But guess what, it does appeal to people who play casually. A game that appeals to everyone does not mean casual. It means the game was made really well. And yes, Donkey Kong is one of the hardest games ever created.

Why do most gam3rz assume simple controls=easy game,and complex controls=difficult? I bet you've beaten more PS2 games than NES games,right? In fact,even though games generally have gotten more complex control schemes,they've gotten easier,to the point that when you buy a game these days,it's a question of WHEN you beat it,not IF.
I just watched a movie about these guys trying to beat each other for a world record in an old game with only ONE button and a joystick! And even though the controls were simple and it wasn't an FPS,only TWO people have ever beaten this casual game. Come to think of it,Mario was shoehorned into that game,too.

I forget what my point is but it's something about Mario Baseball probably being more FUN than Gear of War,even though the controls don't include as many buttons.

So, with Rare's departure did Nintendo give up on Donkey Kong Country games? I loved that series (esp. the side-scrollers) and would genuinely be excited over a sequel. Even slightly improved GameCube graphics would be a huge step up from the N64. This would seem totally logical, as it would make the Wii look more powerful than it is as the only comparison shots we'd have would be from the N64 game. Also, give us a new Animal Crossing, Wave Race and a new IP altogether. Anything other than a reskinned Wii Sports Baseball.

As long as my fucking baserunners don't run all the way home on a pop-fly in the infield, like they did in the Gamecube version, then maybe I'll consider picking this game up.

I'm not a huge baseball fan or even that knowledgable of the sport, but my friends and I always keep up to date with the Mario Sports titles because they're awesome multiplayer. But nothing was more frustrating than having a guy on second and third with NO OUTS, popping up to the infield and having the computer score a Triple Play because my idiot baserunners all ran home. STUPID!

Mario Strikers Charged is in the same vein of "Mario Characters Playing Sports", and it is a really fun game. Simple enough to 'get' within a couple minutes, but there's lots of cool thing you can do. Mario Golf? Fun. Mario Tennis? Fun. Mario Sluggers? Probably quite fun.

I've been sick of the Mariozation of 80% of Nintendo's games for a while now. I loved that little guy during my childhood in the 80's. And you know, he's had some pretty innovative platform adventures in the 3D realm as well (well, except for you Mario Sunshine). But when Nintendo is intent on shoving his mug down my throat with every game they release, you're bound to have a gag reflex.

However, I'm willing to overlook all of this if they will provide me with: Mario & Luigi: Mushrooms Of War. A 3rd person adventure that has you chainsawing goombas through the center of their fleshy heads, bathing yourself in the gold coins that flow from the gaping wound. When the stage is complete and all that remains are the mutilated corpses of mushroom people and turtles, Luigi lights up a cigerette while turning to his brother and says, "Fuck yeah."

Do this Nintendo, and all will be forgiven.

To all the haters of the haters: Lets start waking up here. If you can defend Mario sports game like soccer, tennis or this, you should also be attacking the people who bitch how generic baseball/football games are, saying they bring so much innovation and deserves nothing but praise.

There's no difference between those, and the Mario games. What, Power moves? Congrats, a gimmick that gets recycled throughout the Mario games doesn't make it innovative or worth another 50$.

Fan of the Mario sports games? Fine, wonderful. However, don't be pretentious douchebags acting like every game Nintendo shills Mario into is a breath of fresh air to the small list of Nintendo titles.

As far as this goes... Meh. Love my Wii and I've loved past iterations of Mario sports titles (tennis and golf on the Cube), but this seems a bit too simple.

Then again, I never played Mario Baseball on the Cube, so that may have been simple too. I just want some fielding! Take RBI Baseball, add Mario and friends, and I'll actually consider it. I love two button sports games.

Argh i wish Nintendo wouldn't do this. I don't mind the character titles, Metroid, Super mario, whatever, but they've more than spent their quota of basically generic outsourced games they can lace with mascots and get away with it.

I think it's honestly lazy. I don't mind another Wii baseball game by nintendo; bring it on. I just wish they'd do something like capitalize on the Miis more, or try some new characters for new games.

Hell, why not revive some of the lesser characters and make them the focus, if they're so adamantly uninterested in new characters. Make me a shy guy bowling game or something. Make a Koopa troopa turn based tactics game. Make me a Lakitu air combat game. SOMETHING else!

I never thought i'd say this (though i guess it's obvious to many others) but the slapping of "Super mario" on Wacky Sports Game X is starting to feel really, really cynical of them.

Besides, not all usual suspects are updated yet... There's still pikmin, animal crossing, f-zero and star fox to come... and then there are the rumors of a new Kid Icarus, too. And then there's Wii Music, and possibly other Wii-something games coming out. I wouldn't rule out a Wiintendogs, or something similar, either.

So, there's at least a couple years before they run out of franchises to recycle. Not that I mind the recycling, as long as the games are good and bring something new into the table.

Well once the inevitable Mario Tennis for Wii is unveiled, I think Nintendo have pretty much updated all their Mario franchise games for this generation.

It'll probably be time for another Mario Party by then, of course.

Not trolling, just wondering what Ninty will unveil after their usual suspects are released. Hopefully something new like Pikmin was last generation!
