Honestly, Bay is not a perfect filmaker. His movies are not thought out as far as character development and plotlines. In truth, all of it is just subtext for when the meteors start falling, the ships start getting bombed, and the giant robots start pounding the pulp out of each other.

Be that as it may, he is not a horrible god forsaken director. His movies are still enjoyable on a level. You can appreciate them for their special effects and visual qualities.

I cannot enjoy Uwe Boll's films on any level. they are just horrible on every plain of artistic existence.

I would forgive Boll for having low budgets, but after actually watching his movies, there is no forgiveness. Michael Bay is a niche director, but he knows his niche and he is great at it. Boll seems like a nice enough guy, but low budgets are no excuse for AWFUL filmmaking. Awful stories, awful acting, awful writing, and awful choreographed action are all aspects of the film that don't require a huge budget. I can forgive the terrible special effects, even if I feel that you should avoid the need for special effects if you can't do them right, but every aspect of filmmaking is terrible. He takes people that can do a decent acting job and has them basically say the most wooden dialog with no sense of the mood of the scene. He could study movies from earlier periods to get a sense of how to do lower budget filmmaking or he could study independent films, but he doesn't. Sadly, there are capable directors that will never get a chance to make a movie and this guy keeps on making movies through his tax shelter that has thankfully been closed.

Also, he often gets a pass for his low budgets, but BloodRayne had a $25 million production budget, which is not high budget, but is certainly not a low budget movie either. Postal and Alone in the Dark were both $20 million movies and Dungeon Siege was $60 million! There are not many movies released each year that have a higher budget than that and they certainly have a lot more to show for it.

Michael Bay might not make masterpieces. Every film of his might not be a hit. But dammit he's at least a good filmmaker, and his movies are usually fun to watch. Even the films of his that I didn't like were shot beautifully, edited well, with well choreographed scenes. Plus Michael Bay has made money with his films. None of Boll's stinkers can be considered 'blockbusters' by any sense.

Regardless of how "Postal" will do in the box office (which I'm sure will fail... epically), financiers need to STOP GIVING BOLL MONEY! That'd shut him up for good.

I can't believe you people are praising Boll because you don't like Bay. Have you actually watched any of his movies (Bolls)? I've never played Blood Rayne so I gave it a chance because it shouldn't be bad for someone who doesn't know the game right? WRONG! The cinematography, the fight scenes, the dialogue was bad. The movie was plain ol bad. The reason POSTAL might show some promise is because the movie is suppose to be bad and cheesy. What is with the Bay hate? Sure he couldn't make anything other than an action film (Pearl Harbor anyone?), but they guy makes one heck of a summer action flick. The Rock, Transformers, Bad Boys, even The Island, were all great action flicks, sure you may not get much character development (or whatever character development he tries to have is bluntly placed in front of you), but in terms of action films, his are some of the best.

I've realized lately that Michael Bay is a pretty cool guy, sure he makes somewhat shallow action movies - but he makes them pretty well for what they are. I also appreciate that the guy can laugh at himself slightly, I mean - that ad where he's just blowing shit up at home? Pretty sweet.

Uwe Boll on the other hand, even with a tremendous budget - can make anything horrible; the fact that this man still gets work after "The House of the Dead" baffles me, that movie by far was the most agonizing thing I've seen in my life. It wasn't even funny-bad.

The guy isn't even entertaining on his own! He seems to have a "My movies are awesome, and people who think they are bad (everyone on the planet other than me) are idiots." attitude

Even if Bay's movies are slightly 'retarded' and cliched, at least Bay has a good grasping of basic movie staples like pacing of story, character (as cartoon cliche as his characters are at least they're memorable), PRODUCTION VALUES( yeah Boll may be on a tighter budget but Rodriguez struck gold with $10,000 making El Mariachi ) and many more things beside.

I can't believe how infallible Boll is, still insisting that he himself is a 'genius' and people 'don't get it'.

Unless he's trying to write a masterclass in irony I'd have to compare him with Robert Mugabe in terms of self-delusion and elavated sense of self worth. Of course, the ruination of a nation hasn't been attributed to Boll, just yet, but I think the average score of cultural exports of Germany have been downgraded ever since Boll started producing celluloid shit.

I wouldn't exactly call Michael Bay a retard, but I'm not a big fan of the way he shakes the camera so much during his action scenes that all you see is fast moving blurs and you can't tell what the hell is going on. South Park did a good bit with him when he was asked by the government to help stop terrorists, but he couldn't tell the difference between original ideas and special effects.

That being said, I do think The Rock is an awesome movie.
