But to make the point: I am really interested in downloading HD content, not buying another disposable plastic disc. Xbox Live does it well and I expect Sony to follow likewise. The movie studios and music labels that continue to either be too ignorant or stubborn to evolve to these new distribution realities are going to get left in the dust. It's really been the gaming sphere that has adapted and led the charge in this arena. Go Steam. Go Stardock. Go Direct2Drive. I want Xbox Live and Sony's Home both to do very well. Less product, more content!

so i called back immediately and the next person knew about the promo and gave me the code. i told her about the problem i had with the previous rep and she said she would contact his manager to have him coached. sweet.

Anyway, this is ridiculous. Honestly, I got the HD-A3 as an upscaler because I didn't have one. Around Black Friday, I jumped at a great offer I found on Amazon: 150 bucks for the HD-A3 with The Bourne Identity and 300 in box. Also with that, I was able to choose three movies with it and I chose the Big Lebowski, Hot Fuzz, and the Departed.

So I basically got 5 movies and a high def player for 100 bucks. Its an elite upscaler and there are tons of upscalers that cost more than that.

Since then, I've bought 22 more movies and am waiting for the five free offer as well. I spent 220 bucks on all of those movies. Those same purchases on Blu-Ray would have cost me way more than 300 bucks and there's a good chance we won't see those films on Blu for a long time.

For all those who feel bad for us HD-DVDers, don't be. We're relishing in the great deals right now!

i beg to differ. thanks to the poor quality control of the original Rock Band guitars, i got my original guitar replaced for free with a fully functional one, an extra fully functional guitar for free, and a free copy of skate for the 360. it must suck to be a bitter PS3 fanboi, huh?

I'm confused. Do you get a free gift card (how much?) for each HD DVD player you buy? I thought you just get them if you take back the HD DVD player? And if the gift cards are $50 how did you end up with $150 in gift cards for buying 15 HD DVD players?

So after the Format War Ended I got
2 HD DVD Players (One is a Toshiba A3) and 29 Movies. All for 278$ Canadian....That's cheaper then a stand alone Blu Ray Player Profile 1.3 with no movies! I'm thrilled! I have my High Definition Fix to last me the next few Years!

P.S- Think about it...just one of my movies is Transformers HD DVD 2 Disk Edition....and it only cost me 8$ I'm laughing!

It would make a little more business sense if it was limited to people who bought their players sometime in the last 6 months or something.

Not that I'm complaining or anything...just seems really weird as I wasn't really aware of any big backlash (take for example when the iPhone dropped in price).

Get another gift card due to purchase, rinse and repeat.

He'd be making $10 on each drive, so he could have ended up with 15 drives and $150.

I knew my Toshiba HD-A1 was still good for something. Bonus: Got an HD-DVD from netflix today, haven't seen one in a while. Man, I'm glad I never bought any discs. I wonder what the hackers will do with the HD-A1, I mean the thing's got a Pentium 4 in it.

I saw a post where a guy got the front LCD to say Gizmodo, but there has got to be better things.

In essence, for $129 at Best Buy I received:

1. 7 HD/DVD movies, 3 of which work on regular DVD too as combo movies
2. the HD-DVD drive
3. a bunch of Reward Zone points
4. $50 best Buy gift card
5. Tons of rentals I've gone thru on Netflix for the drive for the same price I was paying for regular movies
6. the opportunity to load up on catalogue movies for ridiculously low prices- lower in some cases than the same movie on standard DVD,

And yet sites like this and all these posters keepmaking me try and feel like an idiot for doing it.

I would've been an idiot NOT to do it.

Not me, I'll keep picking up stuff as prices continue to drop. Again, it's hilarious how the majority of the venom on this subject is apparently coming from non HD DVD owners.

Only thing that annoys me is I bought my add-on at Circuit City, which is like the only place that HASN'T offered something like this at this point. I like free money.
