I'm very new to the Ace Attorney games (got the first one for Xmas and now working on Justice for All) and I'm in love with them. The characters are great - all of them. Such a colorful cast and they're more realistic than "I'm the good guy, you're the bad guy, I kill you and it's justice!"

I hope we see more of the von Karmas - they're my favorite love-to-hate prosecutors. Franziska is a very strong, smart female character who, surprisingly, isn't very fanservicey compared to most of the well-endowed females in the game. And Daddy von Karma is just so deliciously evil. Waiting for a "Don't tase me, bro!" joke here.

Not to mention the games are really funny - all the pop culture references and storyline in-jokes have made me laugh out loud for real - something that doesn't happen often (the last case being the Paper Mario games).

And Gumshoe! I love him so much, definitely a great character and I'm happy to see more of him.

I'm fangirling now, but YAY!!!

I have to admit it was a little bit weird in the fourth game (which I haven't finished yet) that frankly, most of it is about Phoenix Wright. Like, wait! he isn't the main character any more! ;) But, I was definitely missing Gumshoe - sorry but the scientist girl doesn't cut it.

fwiw I think all the games so far have been great. Maybe the first one was best, because it was all fresh - but they're still all great. (Despite a transparently simple game system.) I was going to write an essay explaining why I think this is, but I haven't got around to it. Still. They're great. :)

In Phoenix Wright 1, you actually faced a decent prosecutor, who didn't burst into nonsense with every line. No whipgirl or robocop. The way you were to do things actually MADE SENSE, and you didn't have to summon maid ghosts to give creepy old men a hard-on. Granted, my favorite chapter in the entire series was the last case of Phoenix Wright 2, in which you didn't have to win the case, but prolong it as much as you could in order to bring a man to justice and save your assistant's life. It brought alot of moral issues to the table, and you felt that you were in a 24 episode. That's what I liked about the series, the parts that had the right amount of comedy, along with the right amount of serious. But from 3 onward, the entire story starts to turn to a comedic anime nonsense. The serious parts are incredibly corny, characters burst out lines for no aparent reason, and Phoenix, for some reason seems DUMB. He was at least logical and smart in the first game. Ace Attourney 4, I just found Apollo and its respective characters the epitome of colorful stupid japanese humor. And it doesn't help that Phoenix is alledgedly a "badass" now, and like all badasses, keeps you in the dark and laughs while you do stupid apprentice shit and get tricked into success.

In Phoenix Wright 1, you were an attourney. 2 was good, but it was just more of the same, and the story didn't have the quality of the first one, so it got boring (except the way how ts kicked out in the last case). On Phoenix Wright 3, you're a bumbling moron who faces a caffeine addict who pretends to be a badass. And so much random stuff happens in the courtroom, you have no faith for a good story anymore.

(1) Fixing the horrible, horrible investigation segments somewhat. There's probably still going to be some incredibly obtuse interface quirks (EG, why do I have to "present" evidence to someone when the court record is always accessible from the "talk" screen? Why are certain first-level locations only available from specific other locations?), but at least they seem to realise that something needs improvement.

(2) EDGEWORTH~! And even better, Edgeworth presumably taking potshots at Gumshoe's stupidity throughout the game.

Gumshoe has a very strong character. Everyone tries to keep him down but he's always trying to do what is right. He's always happy and grateful about even the smallest kindness he receives. He's not very smart, but his mistakes are innocent and when things get tough you can always count on Dick Gumshoe doing the right thing.
Dick Gumshoe is my hero and I'm trully happy he's getting a game for himself.

Nice way to shake up the series, looks like there's not going to be much in the way of the courtroom drama and more point-and-clicky style gameplay, which is cool. Edgeworth was an awesome character in the PW games! I always hoped he'd get his own game at some point! :-D thank god they're not completely abandoning the old characters!
