Exactly this happened to the first time I ever played Monkey Island 2. Somehow the music track got screwed up on loading, but having never played it before, I knew no better.

My friend and I played for about half an hour casually trying to ignore it before we both burst out laughing and asked each other if we thought the music was really supposed to be this way.

Turns out it wasn't. But I'd probably laugh just as hard if this was some poor kid's first experience of Animal Crossing, or video games...

You know, I kinda liked it. I'll probably give it another listen tomorrow. I missed a bit, because I was laughing so hard. The parts I listened to more carefully had some interesting sounds and structure. The ending really brings it home for me as well. I'm sure it won't take over for Wolf Eyes as my favorite experimental scary(ish) music, but I've definitely heard less interesting noise music.

The weird thing is you can definitely hear patterns in the chaos. It actually sounds like an intentional tune is in there. Sounds like the planned but random-sounding ickiness of 12-tone music. I bet you could have some fun with a music student by plunking this down and saying "Find the tone row!" and they'd actually believe it was a real composition.

Of course, the best part is that the end actually sounds pretty normal. :)
