@Marlor: Yeah, don't get me wrong the watch is a piece of art. But if you were to buy it you'd have to wear it! That's like buying a 250,000 dollar sports car and keeping it parked so it won't get hurt. Gotta show it off man! I'd wear this everywhere! I see where you are coming from too... I usually put leather bands on all my watches, because metal bracelets and cloth bands just don't suit me.

But I really think the cloth band is part of the appeal of this watch. It's been designed for a purpose, and the band suits that purpose. It also helps keep the weight down to its ridiculously low 92 grams. That's less than most 36mm mechanical watches, and this thing is 53mm.

This is one special watch, and I really admire the thought process that went into every little detail. But I'd never be able to afford to buy one, and even if I could, I'd never dare to wear it.

@Marlor: Don't get me wrong. I see every angle you are coming from. Just I have never enjoyed a watch with that kinda of band. GRANTED this watch CLEARLY wasn't designed with the 25 year old, less then 50k a year crowd.

If it was a normal watch, I probably would change the band too... but really, the whole point for people buying this limited edition watch is for them to have an "authentic space watch". The band adds to that authenticity.

It's certainly not a watch that you would wear every day. Hell, I even act overprotective when I wear my $300 Seiko Spirit. If I had a $10,000+ limited-edition watch, I'd want to keep it as authentic and pristine as possible.

I'm sure they chose the cloth band for its functionality, rather than its looks. I mean, this is a watch that is reportedly designed to be worn along with space gloves (the watch is actually designed to be able to survive direct exposure to space).

A light, flexible, adjustable band is just what is needed.

This is one cool watch. Not only does it have Seiko's fairly new (and expensive) 5R86 spring drive movement, it also only weighs 92 grams despite its massive size (53mm) and titanium case.

Another interesting feature: the watch crown is at 12 o'clock, which is something you don't see too often on wristwatches.

I'd love one (to go with my other Seiko mechanical watches). But I'm probably just as likely to be able to afford a trip into space as this watch.
