@emag: you're right but what I was really trying to say was capcom hasn't given us anything recent. I only really like capcom vs snk2 and sf2 at the moment, sf3 was cool but for some reason I got tired of it quickly.

With kof games even when they added new features(tag- moves,cancels etc. .) they still managed to keep it oldschool at the core while capcom with every game release wanted to outdo itself of crazy super duper combos and flashing epileptic scrolling screen madness lol which is alright but snk games provided a great departure from that. Capcom is trying to win that oldschool audience back with sf4 by using that classic gameplay they use to have at one point.

They're all based on real martial arts. Having a typical luchadore isn't any different from having a typical karate guy or a typical kung fu girl or whatever else.

Frankly, it harkens back to Capcom's Saturday Night Slam Masters, which is just fine. Of the three new characters revealed so far, he's probably got the best design, I'd say.

@mdgalaxy: watching live Luchadors perform in Mexico is an amazing event. And yes, it's hugely popular in Mexico. Same with Puroresu, if you haven't seen it live, you're missing a lot of the appeal. American wrestling has been leeching styles and moves from Japan and Mexico for over 40 years...

I have a question: What the hell is the obsession with the Mexican wrestler and how did that become standard? How many wrestlers do they even have in Mexico? What the hell? Does half of the Mexican population consist of professional wrestlers or something?

I'm not talking about it being offensive, it's just plain boring and predictable. Take some creative liberty and design an original Hispanic character that people might actually want to use. How about an Aztec king with a bad-ass head-dress and 2-foot obsidian machete? <- LOOK, in 10 seconds, I came up with a better idea for a character than you guys came up with in 4 years. Jesus...

In summary, I don't like the new character.

@emag: Wrong! There's no transparent bars in SF:HD. If you decide to play in widescreen mode, the game zooms in to fill the screen. The screen will occasionally pan up whenever a fighter jumps. The widescreen mode is optional, but expert ST players have said that they actually prefer to play the game in widescreen.

As for SF4, I'm assuming that the game will play with the black bars on top and bottom if played on a SDTV set since it is widescreen.

The more I see of SF4 the less I like it. The new characters just seem too out of place for my taste, although with time I'm sure they will seem normal. I still can't get past the 3D aspect ether. This game should have been 2D, no question.

Now if you excuse me, I'm going to go hang with SNK and KoFXII. They know what I like.

@FightingChance: Actually, bullfighting is a both a Portuguese and Spanish tradition (and is a few places in southern France too). They're both different, though. Spanish-style bullfighting is performed on foot, while Portuguese-style bullfighting is done on horse and we (I'm Portuguese) also have the extremely badass forcados. [en.wikipedia.org]

Plus, in Portugal, the killing of the bull in the arena has been outlawed (except in a town or two, which have been granted an "exception regime"), despite many people (at least, those who like bullfights) having the opinion that the bull should die in the arena.

Anyway, due to that, you'll find bullfighting in several Latin American countries and, yes, that includes Mexico.

The last MAJOR US Tourney had tournies for 98, RB2 and NGBC- admittedly small in the case of RB2 (very underrated game) but official. VF5, as much as I like the game, pales to NGBC in tourney attendance, at least in the Southeast US. (SNK tends to be most popular in the Southeast, and areas with large Mexican or Chinese populations in the US)

Personally, I'd rather they have used El Stingray instead (could have kept him mostly the same- since El Stingray had a Cannon Drill type move- to me that's a sign that Cammy is likely to appear at some point). Slam Masters/Muscle Bomber should have some representation in SF sometimes- throw in Gunloc or Scorpion if you have to.

I think we need to relax here- things will be fine. I like the design.

World Champions? I've heard of World Heroes and Eternal Champions. Trust me, the design is a lot better then those two games.

@escopr: Hahaha. The only SNK game you *might* see at any notable fighting tournament is KoF '98. 3s, ST, and VF[5] dominate the scene. Heck, even games like Tekken, SC, GG and Smash Bros. (let alone Alpha 2/3 and CvS2) are more likely to show up than anything by SNK.

@MASOCHIST187: That question's already been answered for HDR: gameplay will not change for different screen modes. HDR uses "transparent" bars on the sides of the screen; you can see the background, but the actual edge of the gameplay area remains what it was in ST. SF4 will probably letterbox/zoom for 4:3 displays, but that's speculation.

I didn't know this game had an OFFICIAL announcement yet that it's even coming to consoles. My understanding was that everything we've seen of it so far is all the arcade version footage. IF and WHEN it is ported to a console will it look the same? Or are the specs on these arcade machines so beefy that the console versions will be downgraded?

I have a question, it's semi-related to this. With this game or with SFII HD, let's say i'm playing online. If i have a widescreen TV and I am playing someone who has a standard TV. What happens when they do a jump off of the edge of the screen, like with Chun Li or Vega? Does it appear on my screen as if they are changing direction in mid-air? These are life's great unanswered questions..........
