Devastated that I found this forum AFTER I bought the game! Worst thing is I cant refund my money paid because I traded game in for this toned down version. I thought, that like the rest of the games in the series so far, that the bad-ass version would be released first, only for all the politically over-correct naïve wankers out there to complain until a soft-cock version is released and that I would be fine. But alas, the rudd government has already taken too much of a toll of at least one of its voters. Instead of pushing for more important things to happen in this country like getting bad-ass versions released, rudd is instead talking about a referendum!! Who cares fuckface! And as if the taxation in this country wasnt enough first they tax your income, then they tax the people who import the games to make them even more expensive, then they add gst on top of that so we as consumers in Australia are effectively taxed 3 times (and thats before paying exuberant prices for petrol just to get to e.b. games!) just to play the soft cock version that you cannot: Fuck prostitutues Blow heads off cunts that got in the way of your shotgun Jack off while watching fully naked strippers. Well, i live in aus and all i can say is "I <3 America!". Since bush screwed over your economy most imports from america cost 1/2 of what they do over here. Then again, we've always had the short end of the stick, for some reason aus seems to get the same prices as europe even though we're closer to japan and the west coast of america than europe.

To those saying NZ will get the same censored version I have to say that I don't think this will be the case. Most of the previous GTA games were censored in Australia yet NZ still got the uncensored version. As far as I'm aware GTA IV has already been rated R18 for NZ (we actually have an R18 rating). In the past NZ online stores actually advertised that we had uncensored versions and mentioned how they had cheap shipping rates to Australia.

Why do I feel this is a just a trick?

None of the MAJOR characters are actually dead. Tommy, Kent Paul, and Ken Rosenberg were alive and well (kinda) in GTA:SA. Carl and Sweet aren't dead. Claude Speed was alive at the end of GTAIII. So it makes me wonder...Are any of these 'living' characters gonna have cameos in the sequels? Maybe Big 'Mitch' Baker, El Burro, 8-Ball, or Phil Cassidy are still alive and maybe hiding out in Liberty City somewhere (and not just as graffiti). Perhaps Donald Love lost his Liberty City empire and is struggling...

Point is, not all of the major characters are dead. Just missing and looking for some GTAIV cameo-ing.

I know I might get a response similar to that of 'Wait until the end of the month', but this is actually thought-provoking.

For the record, the reason the earlier GTAs (and this one, it seems) were edited is because Australian censorship laws are very very harsh on sex and violence.

Not independently, mind you. Sex AND violence. i.e. rape.

So the removal of the ability to pick up prostitutes in the original game (which RUINED the WHOLE GAME, of course), was nothing to do with objections to prostitution, but to the fact that you can have sex with a woman and then brutally murder her.

It's not just games, it's movies too.

And for the Amercians feeling oh-so-superior about their ratings system and Bill of Rights, explain why we got a full uncensored version of Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy), but Target and Sony decided that a few sex scenes were too much for your poor virgin eyes? Or, for that matter, that whilst your games are never "refused classification," you can't even buy games that are rated (Manhunt 2 = AO = pretty much banned).

At least we don't let DEPARTMENT STORES tell us what we can and can't watch.

Not one single game has been delayed because of the OFLC playing through the game to rate it.

The reason games are delayed is because Australia is a PAL region, and we have to wait until the Europeans get the game released. They have to wait because there are at least 4 different languages to be tested for translation and profanity.

We are a small nation, and game sales are minor compared to other regions of the world, so the delays to games have NO impact on the financial bottom line of the big companies.

It has NOTHING to do with the OFLC process. If you bother to look at the OFLC website, you'll notice they rate games MONTHS before release.

In fact, just yesterday Kotaku had a story about Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 being rated by the OFLC - and this game hasn't even been officially announced yet!

So please, PLEASE, PLEASE stop spreading this disinformation!

The stickerage that I'm the most sore about is when I bought the special edition of a Steely Dan CD. Because there was a bonus DVD, it was required to have a classification sticker. The CD sleeve is tiny, the sticker is huge, so almost an entire quarter of the artwork was covered up. And, when I tried to remove the sticker, annihilated.

The reason games are so delayed in Australia in the first place is that unlike the ESRB's method, their ratings are based on going through the games at a cellular level so as to determine if perhaps any mitochondria are trying to "replicate". When a fascist government puts every game through that you're always going to get a gimped version of game that arrives too late, and has some artificial cost increase meant to even out the expense of all that important testing.
