It doesn't have to do with Sony. Celery didn't do his homework. Capcom has gone on the record as saying the reason they jumped ship is because it's cheaper to develop the game on the Wii. Plain as that. They cheapened out because they rather not spend money on next-gen, when they know they'll make money just the same on the Wii. Good business? sure. But good business doesn't always equate to being better for the consumer.

But consider that the move to the Wii wasn't as simple as looking at two numbers. The MH series has always been on Sony hardware--this is a big hurdle. The public image of the Wii doesn't line up well with MH, so they risk alienating part of their existing fanbase to court an unproven demographic. Surely Capcom had the option to put out MH3 on both PS3 or Wii, or create a spinoff series for either. Hell, throw something out on the 360 too. But they chose not to. Who knows the reason.

But in the end, all that matters to me is how fun the game is. I'll wait until MH3 is released before judging the decision to move to the Wii.

If you compare the sales from launch of the PS3 against the PS2 you will see that it has sold just as well so far. [vgchartz.com]

Its not that the PS3 is selling bad, it's just the WII is better.
Way better than any modern console.
Some egghead at Capcom figured that they could make more money by releasing for the WII instead. What I think that egghead failed to account for is just how many of those sales were just people buying the system as a fad item.

I wish you did your research. It's not that they won't ever make a "next-gen" MH. It's that they already started work on one for a PS3, decided it was too much for them to handle. Decided to cut costs by not advancing the game graphically (and likely gameplay wise) and bringing the project over to the Wii. They know it will sell just as well, if not better, but that doesn't mean it's better for the franchise.

If all major devs thought like you did, then they'd keep pushing off "next gen" games to the future and continue to make PS2 games in their place simply because development costs were less. I can't respect that. I'm looking for evolution in gaming, not staying still, or worse, going backwards.

I haven't played MH3 on the Wii, but my guess is that it will be fine, if not fantastic. Like I said, though, it's MH3, not MH: Felyne Kyttenz.

Maybe Capcom will put MH3, MH3G, MH4, or whatever on the PS3 later on; I won't shed any tears either way as long as the games continue to be good.

The long run is based on historical facts. Sony supports their systems longer than the other companies. They have gone on the record as saying they'll have a 10 year life cycle for the PS3, and I believe the PSP too. I think it's obvious that a longer life cycle will translate into more games, and thus more money to be made by Capcom with Sony. I just don't see capcom making many stellar titles for the Wii over the PS3. Monster Hunter is a sad exception, but was actually based on Capcom not wanting to put the work into making a graphically next gen game, but rather an okay looking game, with new control mechanics. In other words, they took the easy road and the fast cash-in.

To me, it's obvious that Sony has dropped the ball in a huge way here. MH is a huge franchise, and for them to jump ship from Sony speaks more about Sony than Capcom. MH has always been tied to the Playstation name, but Sony must have booched it hardcore to lose MH3, especially after it was already announced for the PS3.

Anyway, I'm not too worried either way. Like I said, I think MH3 would be nicer on paper with the PS3 or 360, but the Wii should be fine too. If you're talking about online play, the Wii is pretty bad, but the PS3's online play hasn't been shown to stellar either, and certainly hasn't come close to be tested at the scale that MH would warrant. At least the Wii has SSBB to work out the kinks. Of course, the 360 would be best in this situation, but the 360 has its own special brand of problems in Japan, as I'm sure we all know.

Really, MH fans should know that the series will be fine wherever it goes. Most of the complaints about MH3 are from PS3 supporters. Sure, it sucks for someone who bought a PS3 expecting MH3, but I'm sure PS3 owners are used to that by now.

That don't have to be more successful than the Wii to make Capcom more money. Even now with both the PS3 and PSP in last place respectively, they are making more money for Capcom. There's simply more AAA titles that will go to the PS3 than the Wii, including Devil May Cry 4, and Resident Evil 5. 3rd party titles rarely sell well on Nintendo consoles, compare to the Playstation.

Anyone who's played Monster Hunter would know the Wii isn't a great fit for it, or better yet, the PS3 a better fit. The online aspect of the Wii is so crippled that it defeats an integral part of the game. Not to mention the control scheme. Obviously it''ll sell no matter what console it's on, but for them to go fo the easy cash-in at the sacrifice of evolving is pretty unfortunate.

It seems like the biggest problem is most professional reviews are done based on the first 3 hours of a game, and in MH, those hours are admittedly slow. The game heats up gradually, but you'll never find a better fighting system.

@Strange Bedfellows: Just get the newest one on PSP. It has the most stuff, and is pretty newbie friendly too.

@LittleBigPlaneteer: That's only if Sony is more successful than Nintendo this generation. 'In the long run' doesn't count if Sony stays second, which it most assuredly seems they will be at this point, both in the handheld and console market. I guarantee the Wii version of MH will sell great, possibly better than SSBB did. You have no idea how big MH is in Japan.

The Japanese version was filled with bugs, that's why they released PLUS. Fixed bugs, new Survival Mode and Full Voice Story mode. The US version of the game has all the bugs FIXED though. Unless you are into Voice Actors, is really not that great to import just for that. If you have a Original Japanese Accent Core, the appendex version of PLUS is cheap though. You only need to have a save of the original game, swap it the first time, and then you don't need to swap disks anymore.
