So yeah, and going back to my very first comment that started this discussion, when I said the last decade of Star Wars I meant my perception/enjoyment of it in the last decade, even the original films have become less and less appealing the more history and literature I absorb, when it becomes clear what a pale shadow of its own influences (Kurosawa to name just one) Star Wars truly is.

And its a great universe, again I reference Tartakovsky's brilliant Clone Wars cartoon, which for my money contained more jaw-dropping action sequences than anything in the second 2 films. I expect that when somebody finally pries the reins of the franchise from George Lucas' cold, dead fingers we might have a shot at another good SW movie, but as a doddering old man of 28 years already I might not live that long :P

Otherwise, most faults people have with the prequels are easily found in the originals. The original trilogy has some of the worst acting and dialogue ive ever seen but that tends to get overlooked because of its iconic status.

But i do agree with you on the fact that what made the originals so good was because it was out of the ordinary with a grand orchestra score, great visuals at the time etc... Episode 3 (the best of the prequels) relied too heavily on CGI for locations. Granted theres nowhere you can get lava or anything but every single scene was filmed in front of blue screen.

Also, why would you be forced to make a choice in this game? At no point in the later Jedi Knight games is Kyle Katarn in danger of falling to the Dark Side as a plot point based on actual gameplay, to give one counter-example; I was hoping this game would be the Dark Side equivalent, sure have a cutscene where the main character is tempted by the Light Side, but that should be the extent, IMO.

In the movie, Palpatine (a politician within the Republic) has the clone army ordered in secret for "the republic." And for about a day that's what they are, as they take out the army that Palpatine's alter ego, Darth Sidious, help set up with the Galactic Trade Federation. Once all that competition is eliminated, Palpatine orders the clones to turn on the Jedi. So now most of the Jedi are dead, there is no competing army, and Palpatine has an army at his command. He exploits this position so that he can transform the already weak Republic into an Empire, with him as Emperor. A few good guys... Yoda, Obi-Wan, Bail Organa (who takes baby Leia into his care) remain and hope that the Republic can be restored. But Yoda and Obi-Wan go into exile. So Bail, by hiding the baby, becomes one of the first Rebels. This game would be about Vader seeking out the surviving Jedi, on Palpatine's orders, while secretly training an apprentice, presumably to one day overthrow Palpatine.

Why is he secret? The multiplayer mode is still the best multiplayer I've ever experienced. The inclusion of the duel feature in free-for-all was pure genius.

I loved the culture that emerged too: no attacking players that don't have their saber drawn etc. People gathering around to watch other duels too - just sublime.

Knights of the Old Republic proved that the Expanded Universe was in fact more than just random wannabe jedis playing in the SW universe. The huge marketing push can be really good, as with Knights, or really bad, as with Rebel Assault II (who remembers that?) or *gasp* Shadows of the Empire.

Ultimately, I have faith that this game will prove to be a good story and I'm excited to see the outcome. I have friends who buy systems only when there is a kickass Star Wars game (and sometimes just a mediocre one).

For some reason the way the logo is reminds me of "The Abyss". Don't know why.

Krome Studios is doing the PS2, Wii, and PSP versions. n-Space is doing the DS version. Universomo is doing the n-gage version (why the hell are they doing an n-gage version!?).

So it sounds like it'll be just fine for all platforms. I'm a secret admirer of n-space, so I have faith in the DS version. Krome Studios, I'm not familiar with the games they've made (well, familiar, sure, but I've never played any of them). But LucasArts are very capable, so the PS3 and 360 versions will be awesome, I'm sure, especially since they're only focusing on those two platforms.

These expanded universe titles (based on the Star Wars universe and story, but has little to nothing to do with the movies other then back story) generally are way better then the movie based games, and usually have something more to prove. It also depends on the studio that develops it. The Jedi Knights series was really fun, the Knights of the Old Republic games were some of my fav games. So, just basing your opinion on the movie titles is usually wrong when compared to the other titles.

So, all I am saying is give it a chance. By your own admission the Lego series was fun, so there is hope for the Star Wars name to have a good game.
