Udon now has the date for the art book for early May 2008 and they also have a preview of some the pages:

It seems like they might actually publish it this time around. Capcom is also having a contest of some sort with the fan art.

@Carroceiro: Well, that's in light of how most artbooks are really in the $60 - $100 range . . . sometimes more, depending on the artist and rarity. But, yeah, $40 is still a lot of money to consider for a 'picture' book, but of course it depends on what the individual gets out of it. I, for one, would readily spend that money because I feel like I can enjoy the book for a long time.

Great to have the art as wallpapers, though! I always loved the really detailed, traditional style they used for the stills during narrative sequences and whenever you meet a new monster.

Thank you for the link I've need a new wallpaper for a while on my computer. My son came home from school and said "Wow Mommy, that's beautiful". I'm going to have to play the game with him. I've also been happy to see Nintendo Power has been covering this game a lot in their Magazine. Hopefully people will pick it up.

I too ordered the Art of Okami book over a year ago (January 2007) and have waited and waited and waited for the book to ship. Maybe the Wii version of the game will get the book-publishing wheels turning again.

In the meantime I will make my own low-res art book from the downloads.

Now where did I put that hole punch and glue gun?

All this does is remind me of all those emails I've gotten from Amazon asking me to re-approve my order every time they push the art book's release date back. Thanks, Luke. ;_;

It is nice to see them releasing some more stuff and trying to hype the game for the Wii release. This game deserves more attention from consumers.

@LionheartAce: It may be cheap for you, but you're clearly rich. After all, only a person who has so much money that doesn't know what to do with it, buys the same game twice.
I, however, am not rich and I value my money.
I don't really know how much artbooks usually are. Maybe this is actually cheap FOR an artbook, but 40$ (plus shipping expenses) is a whole lot of money to just look at a bunch of pretty drawings and be done with it.

Looking at all this stuff reminds how great and charming Okami is. It's a shame they closed down Clover. I'd love a sequel. On the other hand, it's not as the story was left unfinished (unlike Shenmue) and I agree that, sometimes, it's better to make it once and leave it at that, than ruining the art by making uninspired sequels. Still, if a hypothetical Okami 2 weren't uninspired, then I sure would love a sequel. After all, when something is great, it is only natural that one craves for more, is it not?

Udon was supposed to release the Okami artbook in America a while ago, but it's been delayed for years. [www.amazon.com]

Okami is art. We don't want to turn "art" into "tart" by creating rubbish sequels now, do we Mr. Lucas Arts? Yes, I'm talking about Monkey Island 4, Mr. George Lucas.

I'm really excited about the upcoming Wii version, still haven't played the PS2 one, I was in a bit of a money crunch when it came out, and by the time I got back to where I was buying games regularly again the Wii version was all but confirmed, so I figured I'd wait and give that money to Capcom when it releases, rather than giving GameStop 15 bucks or whatnot for a used PS2 version :)

Also agree that some games are best left without sequels, though determining which ones those are can be hard for even the most experienced gamer, let alone a bunch of "soulless" corporate types who actually make many of the decisions on what games get sequels or not based on profit potential and nothing else ;)

Some really beautiful work. I have the official artbook in high-res scans and the amount of detail put into the seemingly simple brush-stokes is incredible.

I highly anticipate the release of Okami on the Wii - maybe strong sales will make them produce some sort of sequel.
