The devs over at EA are too lazy to build Madden PC on a decent engine. Oh well. I played Madden every year on PC and enjoyed the game. However, I can live without it. There's way too much going on in the PC gaming world to worry about Peter Moore's PC game cuts. EA needs young talent up front. This guy is a joke.

Let's break a few things down here:

FPS - It's funny to read console gamers comments regarding FPS games. The auto-aiming feature really makes you guys think you're good at them. LMFAO! That shit is garbage!

High Definition - PC gamers are well beyond 1080p. The new HD standard(s) are 2560x1600 & 3840×2160 (1600p & 2160p - no up-scaling necessary). Why? Well, because if we choose to game at those resolutions, we have systems which are powerful enough to do so (Quad CPU & GPU technology Biotch!) Yeah, I typed it! That just happened!

Multiplayer - Dedicated, lag free, no host advantage servers (Real servers, no FIOS home packages accepted). Need I say more? ROTFL!

Graphics Quality - No brainer. We murder you console boys all day long in that department! By today's standards, console graphics are OK at best.

Customization - We don't even need to go there. DLC will never set the bar as PC modifications have raised it to high. Some things you just have to deal with.

The EA games used to be great on the PC. Their killing of NBA live on it over the last few years still causes me to go into a damn near murderous rage. Madden held up better. It's unfortunate that they did this. The PC community might not be as big, but in terms of mods and devotion to it, it was a really great community for both games. Hopefuly console modding of games will end up being possible one day so we can get those kinds of things in the console world, but until then it's unfortunate that it's gonna essentially be lost now.

In 2003-2004 I was huge into Madden PC. The Maddening Vick runners and the ease of multiplayer made it a better game to play online. The PS2's internet was only ho-hum and the xbox was something less then polished. No lag and the graphics were actually better on the PC. Plus the micromanagement of season mode was there with a mouse.

The consoles have caught up with ease since then. On controls and multiplayer . But looking back on those old edition, they don't look or play that much differently then the 08 edition. (fuck the running game still plays better in the old editions...)

Peter, honestly, we know the reason. You are blaming piracy on a game few truly pirate. You hope it will boost sales, it wount. If anything, your given madden fan's last hope (NFL Headcoach series) a death sentence. (No one plays soccer sims on the console )

Some of the posters here get it right: you can find all sorts of mods for the EA Sports PC versions (roster updates, classic uniforms and teams, different stadiums etc) that console players don't have access to (unless they want to pay extra money for whatever ends up being released via DLC)

It sounds like they're giving up on PC sports games, outside of the ad-based web model that they seem to be going toward (a la Battlefield Heroes). I'd be surprised if they got rid of FIFA though (and its annual spring counterpart version--Champions League, UEFA, World Cup), especially outside of the States...

It's not really a big deal, but it was initially released on the Apple II computer only, and was then later ported to other "PC" platforms much later.

I remember it being overly difficult on the Apple II at the time, with all these plays that you had to remember. There was a play book!! It wasn't until the later ports, and really the Genesis version, where it became not only playable but also enjoyable.

EA knows that many people that buy Madden for PC don't have to buy the same game every year over and over. Why? Because the rosters and stats can be updated with a single file. I buy NHL every few years on PC, update the rosters for it every year and skip buying it for PC and console until I feel an upgrade is necessary. There just isn't enough change to warrant a yearly purchase for any of these games, it's ridiculous when you think about it. I'm guessing EA feels this might take away from console sales. I'm just wondering what other games are going to get axed.

Bottom line, on PC, simulations are much better suited for the platform.

Please, this was a mercy killing. The PC version the past couple years has been, by far, the worst of the bunch, save maybe the DS versions. They have made almost zero improvements over the PS2/XBox versions (which themselves are nothing more than $50 roster upgrades at this point; they're so lazy, they might as well be named Ass Rape Edition), so basically, they're selling a lower-priced version of a game that's also the most likely to be pirated.

Anyone complaining about this, sorry, but I'm behind EA on this one, because them releasing the same garbage year after year was a bigger insult than just smothering this one to deadh.

Well, in most Madden circles, the PC version of 08 is considered to be the best version of the game available.

The "next gen" engine is pretty much considered a bust, and needs to be completely redone. The PC version however, features the last generation engine, with PC graphic quality.

My guess is they just don't have the ability to put the "new and improved Madden" on the PC, and would get butchered in the media for another last gen title. Tiburon isn't normally known in the industry for quality or ability. And the PC version probably doesn't do enough sales to warrant another developer to port it.

It's pretty funny how all of us are so accustomed to EA crapping their games all over every single platform--even when it makes no sense--that when they decide not to it's actually news.

I think it is pretty telling that it's Madden though, we are finally seeing the dark side of the monopoly. No one else can make an NFL game for the PC so there's no risk. Take it a step further and have them say something like 'not enough people play Madden on PS3' and they start to wield a lot of power... even more so than when they basically killed the Dreamcast but not supporting it.

I bought Madden 08 for the PC, the only version of Madden I own for the PC, and I bought for the sole purpose of playing my brother while I'm at school. All he owns is a PC.

i dont know if anyone noticed, but the EA Sports games quality on PC has been on a downward freefall (while it can be said that the overall quality and upgrades for each annual rehash, regardless of platform, is on a downtrend). EA simply doesn't think that the PC Sports market deserve their attention.

Who plays sports games mostly? the "casual" player. and there are no such thing as the Casual PC Gamer, except for the Sims crowd, which they got covered anyway.

EA sucks, but it's merely a sound business decision. I wouldn't want to see how they raped the NBA Live franchise apart on the PC year after year while the XBOX 360 and PS3 gets a different treatment.

Maybe it's that PC gamers are keen to realize that there were no truly worthwhile improvements to ANY of their franchises in the EA Sports games to garner a purchase?

For those of us with pretty powerful gaming rigs (Blackbird, anyone?), the PC can AND DOES take a giant shit on games like Madden, which looks both retarded on a PC rig.

There always have been way better games to buy on the PC, and when games from EA will have to compete against a Blizzard, they are almost always going to lose everytime IMHO

To my knowledge I've mostly heard it used on the Boondocks on Adult Swim but I don't know if thats where it originated.

As a gamer who played a ton of Madden on PC, 1999 to 2007, I must say this is a disappointment as I would gladly play it on PC still if they didn't release half-assed PS2 ports. Fact is I may not buy it at all this year, it will have to be a significant improvement over the past POS that they put out.

So they celebrate the 20th aniversary of rehashing and porting the same game for 20 years by no longer porting to every platform known to man.

Begining of a new era it seems. Not that I care that much.

I might be missing somthing but hasn't the PC versions always been shitty ports from the consoles anyway? I wasn't aware a lazy ports wern't cost effective and profitiable. As its what everyone on the PC has been recieiving for years now.

Now I can't play my least favourite sports franchise on my uber awesome PC with high tech features like 509 mb of RAM (I know, why 509?), integrated graphics card, and a Pentium M processor. When my brother plays WoW on lowest settings at 800x600 getting 11 fps, my eyes cannot bear the beauty. Truly I am heartbroken I cannot play Madden 09 on my crazy high tech PC instead of, say, Xbox 360.

Would the death of pc gaming really be bad for pc gamers?

*consoles much, much cheaper
*consoles now have online multiplayer
*consoles now have high def graphics
*consoles are easier to develop for... devs know exactly what hardware they're working with, and can tweak the game to run exactly the way they want it to.

given how much modern day consoles emulate pcs with 1/5 the price tag, not to mention you only have to buy a new one once every 4-5 years or so... why not just let pc gaming go?

6 years ago, the pc had HD and multiplayer in the bag... now it doesn't have anything.

what does it offer that console gaming doesn't?

In all seriousness, fans of the series who want to play the games on their PC will probably fill the gap by modding their favorite FPS engine. In the end, do any of them really care about a correctly updated, but copyright-breaking roster?

I never played Madden on PC, though I play Fifa and USED to play NHL, but ever since EA has decided to half ass the PC versions in comparison with the console versions, I haven't had much incentive to play.
Honestly, they've had the same graphics for the last 3 generations , it's time they get with the program.
