I wind up finishing the crappyest games, yet the games that are good and i know i will enjoy playing (This involves 95 precent of RPGs i play) i never finish them. I have yet to touch my Final Fantasy XII game in over a year, when i first got it i was determined to beat the game. Now... i just cant find felling for playing it.

Like recently i beat Turok and Halo 3, which both didnt really interest me much. Then you got Mass Effect which im at the end, but i just cant find a need to beat the game...

Actually there are some games I buy that I never get the chance to actually play them! Sometimes I'm hooked to a game, I finish it (let's say a MGS or a GOW), then I have 2 games already on the line waiting to be played. I start playing one, sometimes I just started playing it a couple days back when I already have bought another new one, which gets me addicted since day one so I stop playing the other.

Although it's very probable that I will finish that game, there were 2 games left behind. One that I started but didn't finish and then another which I didn't even start playing! Damn... It's sad. I wish I could have like one year off so I could get up to date with the games I wanted to play! *sigh*

At the same time, after a long day I usually only have a couple of hours to play before I'm ready for bed. When that's the case, I'd much rather squeeze in a couple of hours of Jet Set Radio Future than continue trying to get to the good stuff in any of those serious investments. It's the only reason I've really fallen out of playing RPGs. To me, Ninja Gaiden Black will always remain better than Blue Dragon, if only because the extreme level of polish, quality, and entertainment value is readily apparent and gratifying. I'm not saying that NGB is actually better because I haven't completed Blue Dragon and therefore can't speak for it beyond the couple of hours of it that I've seen, but it's definitely not the kind of game that I have time for.

Sometimes that means that I will beat it, but most of the time, it doesn't. I have a much better chance of beating a portable game than a console game because I so rarely play console games. If I am playing a console game, it is something of an event, so I don't want to waste that time by level-grinding or slogging through the boring parts.

I had a pretty good record of beating games in the SNES era, but I don't think any of my Atari games were beatable, most of my computer games from the 80s and 90s were too long to complete, and NES games were often far too difficult to beat.

Even though I rarely beat games, that doesn't stop me from playing some games over and over. I beat the original Contra and Act Raiser every few months, as well as a few other SNES and NES classics. I also replay the Symphony of the Night and the GBA and DS Castlevanias every now and then, even though I have hundreds of other games (including the 3D Castlevania games) that I haven't even touched.

Nowadays, I have a fairly bad record of even playing my games for the first time. I couldn't put a number on it, but I think that about 20% of my games are still untouched. I would really like to make sure to give all of the games a chance, and I always do eventually, but I feel no obligation to complete every game.

1.) Completed the main storyline.
2.) Completed/unlocked everything.

Newer games rarely fall into that third category, and I've never been one to rush through games either. I'm also extremely mood-driven when it comes to the types of games I play. I'll wind up purchasing the sequel to a game I own but have yet to play, finish the sequel months later, and then play through the original immediately after.

]]> <![CDATA[Do You Finish Every Game You Buy?]]> First game from a while back I remembered I stopped playing was Kingdom Hearts 1, this was post Metal Gear Solid 3 Substance's 4 play throughs, SotC, Psychonauts, Okami, etc... Even the second Kingdom Hearts. I stopped after finally beating down Riku/Ansem one on one. I original got the game to prove that it was possible to beat Sephiroth KH1 just like KH2. But I ended up stopping as soon as I could go and do it. I guess I just lost interest. I'll eventually go back, I guess.

After that, I never followed through with the walk through of Ganon's Tower in Link to the Past froo the Virtual Console. I loved it from start to end, I didn't want it to end, but I just put the controller down and ended up moving on.

The next failed attempt at a End game happened immediately after aLttP. I started through Wind Waker with vast enthusiasm which was quickly changed to frustration. Wind Waker is a great game, bar non. But the whole sailing..... it was just to much. It didn't add much to the core game but length, frustration and the occasional rupee. It was especially taxing when going out of my way to a small sea fortress, middle of nowhere, and having to battle through several armed ships and cannons while changing wind direction every six seconds, then end the battle with the sun rising and all the treasure disappears with several new ships and cannons around..... I final just stopped after finding out I had to venture out to find a Triforce Chart on a remote island, take it back to Tingle to translate for 400 rupees and then sail to the remote spot to pull it up. It added more unnecessary MANDATORY missions that overall, felt like side quests (seriously? Go through 30 out of 50 dungeon rooms for the chart when there's a side quest right there with a heart piece at the bottom? fuck that, once in Twilight Princess was enough for me, and it wasn't even required). I don't know how I could play through this to the apparently FANTASTIC ENDING BATTLE with samurai Ganon with all the collector memorabilia and then start a Phantom Hourglass game where I'd have to come to terms with losing all of it.

I stopped at the Gerudo dungeon in Ocarina of Time; at the boss battle with Metroid Prime in the game of the same name; at the final battle with Satan in Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodish; stopped in front of Door M in MegaMan ZX for the Nintendo DS; heck, even 2/3 of the way into the final case of Phoenix Wright 2! (Edgey's still waiting for me to wrap things up!)

If the game doesn't have a final boss fight as early on as, say, a fighter, a racing game, or a short platformer like Mario Galaxy, there're pretty good odds I won't finish.

I've "beaten" Metroid Prime 3: Corruption several times, and I've completed it to 100% on all of the difficulties, but I haven't gotten all of the darn red orbs from scanning enemies that I need to unlock the rest of the unlockables. And I have no desire to do that. None!

Okami I've completed many times, but I haven't gotten EVERY SINGLE THING, and I really don't want to since the game can get pretty boring, and my PS2 is probably kaput since I haven't used it in a LONG time. And no, I'm not getting the Wii version!

On Contra 4, I've beaten the arcade mode on Easy and Normal, but those Challenges in Challenge Mode are way too hard!

And finally, Super Smash Bros. Brawl! I've "beaten" Adventure Mode: SSE once, and I've completed 89% of it, but it's ridiculously hard to complete, so I don't have that much of a desire to complete it since I've already unlocked all the characters. As for the unlockables, some of them I can unlock pretty easily, others take a little bit of work, and the rest are just impossible. And I only have one hammer to use as a freebie! I hate the ones where you have to have a certain amount of brawls on one stage or with one character. I usually can't find anyone to brawl with!

Then there's the occasional game that I buy, like, and don't suck at (say, Bioshock) that I haven't beaten just because of a combination of a) computer troubles causing me to have to backup and reinstall said game and b) having other games that I just happen to like more (say, TF2).

But for the most part, I usually do either beat a game or get very close.

Absolutely not. And it's very unfortunate. I have stacks of games that's still in its original wrapping. Bioshock, Mass Effect, dotHACK series, Condemned 2, No More Heroes, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, C&C 3: Kane's Wraith and the list goes on.

Then there's the ones that I've played the first hour(or less) and haven't gone back such as Futurama, Beyond Good & Evil, Condemned, Crisis Core, Call of Duty 3, Call of Duty 4, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Series, Endless Ocean, Super Mario Galaxy, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, MGS3: Snake Eater/Subsistence and so forth.

It's funny though, I've managed to play and beaten games like the Half-Life series(plus Portal), Doom 3, Rainbow Six Vegas, Halo trilogy, Splinter Cell, G.R.A.W., Spider-Man 2: The Movie Game, Tron 2.0, the past C&C games(except Generals), Mechwarrior 2, Maniac Mansion and DotT, and the Wing Commander series just to name a few. The ones that managed to keep my atttention for so long.

I'm the type who buys the games and put it with the collection. When there's the urge to play something like, say "RPG Sci-Fi", I'll bring out Mass Effect. Demos seemed to spoil the game for me such as Bioshock and Echochrome. I'll complete the demo but never touch the final retail version. Yet, games without demos or never played the demos I try to complete it such as RB6:Vegas, GRAW, Silent Hill and Half-Life. It's like "here's what our game has to offer" in the demo and you totally toss the retail version to the side because you have a sense of what the game was like. What's the point of beating the whole game anyways? It's like sampling free food. You know what it tastes like and it fulfill your needs so why buy the darn thing? Sure, you'll have cravings for it in the near future but you'll definitely won't come back to it the next day.

It's an awful habit that really needs to be stopped. I have a rather large collection of video games for person with a low(aka 'average joe') income and have come very close to be financially unstable, where pockets are starting to have holes in them. Simply put, I blame myself and the gaming industry. The gaming industry hasn't found that right time length to complete a game. Some companies make it so darn massive, that a casual gamer could never complete it until the game's 1st anniversary from its release date. I'd also blame on the writing, unable to keep the gamer's attention for such a long duration. Don't make it so darn huge, dragging the story for so long. I don't mind a great huge epic game but you can cut it down to sequels or in episodes(e.g. Sam & Max, Half-Life, Sin 2, Halo)

But in the end, you only have yourself to blame on. With such a huge impulse to buy every game on sight and lack of free gaming time, stick with one game before buying another. By then, that next game could be in the bargain bin so you can save yourself a lot of money.

So basically, its not unusual for me to pick up a game and not complete it because I buy games I dont like.(NG, Mario Sunshine, Zelda OoT, Splinter Cell, Resident Evil 4) Although, there are plenty of games I do like that I dont beat as well.(DMC4, Ridge Racer 6-7, Ratchet and Clank)

If you mean to get 100% completion, finding every secret and unlocking every unlockable, then I hardly finish any of the games I play. If "finish" just means "get to the end", then I make a point of trying to finish every game I buy, unless I'm finding it particularly uninteresting. Gears of War, for instance, was one of the few games in recent memory that I played but didn't finish, because I found the setting and characters overwhelmingly dull, and the gameplay, while interesting at first, rapidly became very repetitive. Another was Odin Sphere, which I grew frustrated with. The boss fights were just too hard unless you spent a good amount of time grinding, and I have a no-grinding policy. I'll make exceptions from time to time, but that was just too much.

Though I nominated Sigma's comment about games not being compelling enough to finish, I genuinely do love most of the games I own and don't play, but I've experimented with this problem over the years.

I can only complete older games at the cost of missing newer ones. I happily stuck with a PSX and Dreamcast until a few years ago, maybe 2003ish when I got a PS2 at last. To my dismay, most of the games I'd really been looking forward to are gone for good. No one has them. Not stores, not online shops, not eBay, not even Bittorrent sites.

So, now I have a PS3 already and several games because I don't want to let them slip past. Did you think Ridge Racer was popular? Apparently not, RR7 was all but extinct when I got it. Try finding it, it's gone (legit copies at least. I got the last one in town.) So now that I can afford it, I keep up on the rush of games... and usually play a game for 3 days to a week until another one comes out. >:o

This need to cram as much gameplay as possible into the time I have, and the need to be able to come back to a game after shelving it for months/years also pretty much precludes anything with a plot - which I hadn't intended, but looking at my games, the most plot-heavy current-gen ones are probably RE4, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and God of War. :/

I actually did the math, I finish approx. 90% of the games I currently own (7/67 have not been completed). This of course does not include actual in-game progress as that'd be a bitch to measure and probably be closer to 95 or something cause I at least play them a great deal through.

B-day just passed so three of those are largely justified (DMC4, Condemned 2 and UT3). Others not so much, then there's the one I'd love to finish but don't have the heart to pick back up since I lost my memory card: Okami. I am considering buying it on the Wii though and finishing it there, lest I can't lose a memory card, right?

If I don't love a game or have someone to play co-op with, I'm not willing to invest that much time in it. I finished Portal in one sitting (not that big of a deal, I know) because I was so engrossed, but I stopped playing Half-Life 2 after about an hour and never went back. Finished both Gears and Uncharted, but couldn't stomach Ratchet and Clank, Metroid Prime 3 or Halo 3 (my roommates love it and I just can't get with it). I feel like I waste a lot of money on these games, but I can't sell them to GameStop. That would be far worse to me than just sitting on them.
