The first one didn't even identify itself as an xbox360 ad, but just directed parents to a "street cred" website after telling them they don't deserve respect from their kids. The second one pushed it even farther and outright told parents that they will die soon anyway (then went on to say it was endorsed by Xbox360). Microsoft shouldn't be representing gamer culture with these kind of prejudiced ads.

I would classify them within an intentionally self-deprecating genre, the kind of commercial that patronizes its audience in the most gentle of ways. It panters to the section of its potential audience which is well aware of the marketing tactics and practices behind the commercials targeting it. A sort of "wave" that recognizes that there's no way around the reality that marketing is taking place.

It's an overly intricate way of saying "hey look, we're targeting you", while being intentionally sardonic. I liked it. The kotaku response seems...like a bit too much? Overly negative...Irony is a powerful tool.
