Glad to hear Japan is still starved for Monster Hunter. Whither its an upgraded version or a new release. Lets just hope we see a US & UK release date announcement soon. Though - It's been taking about 8-10 months to make their way here from Japan's release. Which is painfully long if you ask me... but I'm a big fan of the series.

I'm american and love me some monster hunter. Actually Monster hunter freedom 1 and 2 are all I own for my psp. The only reason I bought the system was for MH and Gran turismo mobile that came out in like 2005... or wait it didnt wtdf!? (Yea I still have it pre ordered at EB rofl)

MH graphics are dang good on the hand held, so I dunno how you can complain about them. Tutorial and early missions in MH are a snooze fest, but once you are fighting dual diablos. zomg epic from then on. Most epic console/handheld game I have ever played. Not even warcraft can compare with going one on one with the Lao Shung and his varients!

I really do hope, though, that Capcom keep its word and gives and honest advertising campaign to the Monster Hunter series for the West. MH is a MASSIVE success in japan because the original got the exposure it needed. Over here, state-side, we got a few magazine adds and some reviews by unenthusiastic journalists who still think Halo is the greatest shooter ever.

Instead of giving it a second chance with the sequel or even a second production run, they cut the game off and gave their fanbase the finger. Years later, we see that the PSP versions are thriving, hell, they're best sellers, and yet, I still can't find new copies of either MPH or MHP2nd. Not because they are selling out, but because they stopped sending my store copies after we sold out.

The other thing that seems TOTALLY AWESOME is the install option. I figured it'd help a little, but when I read Dir_en_grey's comment about it practically eliminating load times, I felt genuinely impressed. Witz, you picked it up today, right? Can you comment on the install option? So I guess I'll have this and Crisis Core sent to me to tide me over till I make it back to the States.

@celery: Your comment made me smile. Reminds me of those days where gaming was pure pleasure, where I'd go to the store as a kid, pick up a random game, and go home and have fun playing it. I didn't look up its reviews or watch gameplay videos first. I just knew I loved games and playing them made me happy. The time of their lives, indeed. なつかしいね。

The above is just the Officially Announced Monsters, you can expect other hidden once because Capcom said there were other hidden/variations, somebody already upped an unannounced monster: [skiesofcrimson.com]

From vids I saw many new weapons newly modeled and not just pallet swaps, and those were just from the initial weapons you buy at the store. Many confirmations of farther modifications of the weapons that were maxed out in 2nd. Since there are that many more monsters you can expect that many more gear/weapons.

There's also a Data Install mode for the game, takes about 10 min to install, but the comparison vid I saw shows there were almost no loading after the system install.

I'm sure there are other things that I forgot and left out, but yeah this game is too big to disappoint so many people so you know Capcom'll make it worth your money. Damn this is a good year for Capcom, should've bought some stock =)

My guess is that the Japanese like games where the gameplay lasts over 50-100hrs (ie. FF series).

MH is all about spending COUNTLESS hours setting up strategies to slay DIFFICULT monsters and earning parts to make better weapons.

The day Super Smash Brothers was released, I stopped by Yodobashi Camera after work ... sold out. Same at Sofmap, Ishimaru, and some of the smaller stores too. I just said "screw it" and hopped on my bike to the Yurakucho Bic Camera, where there were no lines and about 600 extra copies.

Tokyoites need to not go to Akihabara for video games.

Neither did I, untill I saw the launch of The Burning Crusade expantion of WoW. It was a midnight launch, and people were lined around the block at several stores. I just got my copy the next morning with noone around tho

People thinking about getting this game, there's no need to wait for the US 2nd G release. You can totally play MHFreedom 2 and have lots of fun, and still have more fun on 2nd G if you want even more harder challenges. I hope they make 4 player alot harder in 2nd G though... Even though it might be still hard when fighting Fatalis or something, but it is just way too easy when compared fighting solo. 2nd was definitely modified for single player game play.

DQ8 didnt exactly sell as well as they had planned. I was there on the launch of it also and it wasnt murderous rushes like the old super famicon days. Lots of leftovers after.

Actually MHP games is one of the few that will vanish from all shelves for about a week or more after the initial launch date. It happened with MHP2, occured again when the slim was released.

I for the life of me can't understand why in the world people in Japan line up like this. Outside of system launches, a lot of these big AAA releases can be acquired with ease.

When Dragon Quest 8 came out, I woke up at 10 am, took a shower, and made a leisurely stroll to my nearby Yamada Denki and was bombarded with copies still sitting on the shelf. It was the same story with FF12, Mother 3, Crisis Core, Zelda DS, Blue Dragon, Devil May Cry 4.

And I am willing to bet that A LOT of these people had the game preordered months in advance....they just like the comradire of lining up and waiting.

Oh, and I will be SHOCKED if Monster Hunter for Wii even gets a 10th of these people out waiting in line. No More Heroes Launch anyone?

Do any Americans out there even like Monster Hunter?? I've played it once, thought the gameplay was snoozeville, and the graphics and art style could best be described as "unappealing."

Oh well, I guess the Japanese need something to play on that morning commute.
