To the rest of you complaining:

Soul Calibur has always been fantasy. Look at Sigfrieds Weapon, Astaroth, Rock, and any number of costumes for each character. I seriousley doubt you'd run into anything looking like Tira, Ivy, Taki, or Nightmare out in whatever pretend erra the game is from. Just because TWO new characters (not referrencing SW here) are leaning towards fantasy more than anything, does not mean SC is drifting from any "historical root."

Secondly, sexy outfits are not a default "immature sell point gimmick" button. Honestly, there are plenty of "mature" piece of fiction with what can be construed as erotic costume design. Let's all take a hard look at Major Motko for a second... Why can't you all just enjoy a little piece of eye candy and be done with it?

I don't understand the SW hate. They're gonna be fun, end of story. Does SciFi fit in fantasy? Not in this case. But I'll be damned if the lot of you wouldn't go nuts playing as any number of inter-franchise skins in a shooter like Halo, CoD 4, or Gears. You know what? I REALLY hope they have Boba Fett with his green lightsaber or a vibroblade. That would ROCK.

To each his own, but all I know is I'll be enjoying all the new content, whcih will just add to my SC love.

What could have easily turned into a historical fiction fighter with interesting story has more or less turned into Marvel Vs. Capcom. Even the attempts to expand the lore (Legends) have been rough.

I'm not saying this is a bad thing because there's not much use in crying over what might have been. Still, it's fun to think about it. Where's Bongo for crying out loud? Shouldn't Mitsurugi be completely insane by now? And why doesn't Cervantes actually look like a zombie, decaying flesh and all?

It would have been great to see continuity and the historical fiction you mentioned, and I think it would have been totally possible to make it work. Team Calibur, or whatever they are calling themselves, see things differently. Perhaps one day we'll see the Panzer Dragoon Saga equivalent for Soul Calibur (ie: a different genre game that successfully expands and explains the lore of previous games) but for now we'll enjoy SC4 for what it is: an entertaining fighting game. Yoda and all.

To be fair, the original Soul Calibur featured Tekken's Yoshimitsu but, at least within my group of friends, this was acceptable because he felt like he could actually exist within the Soul Edge continuity.

While Yoda and Vader's inclusion still seems like an amazing stretch (more so than Spawn, Link, and Heihachi for some reason), it just doesn't bother me as much as it probably should. Because of the latest character I'd actually want them to replace Yoda with Dororo. He's small, a ninja, and could be considered a kappa. It would work!

Alternately you could have Giroro. He wouldn't be the first Soul Edge character to wield a gun.

As for the new character's design, I think if you are familiar with the artist's work you would appreciate it (and understand it) a lot more. But I suppose that can really be said about anything.

Ami was a fan-favorite, so not surprised she'd be back- makes Hwang and Li Long more likely as well if they go the megacast route. Thankfully, Namco doesn't bias SC like they do Tekken, where Mishimas have to be top tiers or they screwed up. Namco just screws up SNK-style and makes some random char overpowered.
