It should have had more of the 'unique' games two years ago. Never the less, I welcome them, but 40-50% of the PSP's 'core' users are going to download the games and thus, any sales for these 'unique' titles are going to be in the shitter, thus denying any sort of chance at more titles like them.

Piracy, along with a "Loaded with so much shit, if you drop it, you've got a $150 paperweight" mindset is why the PSP hasn't done better then it is. If Sony wants to prevent a repeat, they should go ahead and outright give Dark Alex a job writing firmware for them.

@GhaleonUnlimited: I LOVE my PSP, but tolerate the nub. I don't like the "slide" mechanics (it makes fine control pretty difficult). I wish the Slim would have come with a pup-up nub. ...actually, I wish it would have come with TWO pop-up nubs.

You can get kits to replace the nub, my friend did that and loved it, but results may vary. Quite frankly, I think that a lot of people make any excuse not to give the PSP a chance. I mean people hate the PSP because of remote play and video playback and the fact that there may be a GPS add-on? I hope that they realize that those people would not be working on making games if they weren't working on those items, they would probably be doing something in Sony's electronics division. If you don't like an extra feature, you can ignore it. I have never used the internet radio features, but I don't resent Sony for giving me the option.

I can go along with this statement. I am a huge DS fan with over 80 games, but the PSP has really seemed to be getting the better games lately. For the last few months, ever since I got my slim model, I have been playing the PSP way more than the DS, but I still love both systems. I actually think that they are complementary systems. Competition is nice for the people on the sidelines, but this isn't like the PS3 and 360 with systems that are similar in specs, it is more like the PS360 and Wii which offer completely different experiences. The only competition is in your entertainment dollars, but we might as well compare DVD sales to game sales in that case.

A year or so ago, if someone asked me which system to get, I would definitely say the DS, but now I would need to know more about the person's tastes in order to make a recommendation.

I've been enjoying Loco Roco and Patapon for a while now. I will get Echochrome the second it's released in physical disc form. For non-game things, radio is nice but I don't really use it. I'd use Skype if it did text chat. I do use remote play every day and it's sweet, if limited. Very handy around the house.

Most of my favorites are actually reused, just not beaten to death. Ridge Racer, Need for Speed, and Burnout, Guilty Gear. All of those exist on DS in mangled form, sometimes mutated right out of usability (GG:DS). Then there's DJ Max Portable, Jaleco's mahjong games, Wipeout, God of War. Excellent games - remakes (rarely ports) of console series - but done right.

So I think it has plenty of innovative titles and features coming in, but ultimately I find it's more about how the system carries the game. There are lots of games that I'd simply like to have time to play on the go on a pocket-sized home theater like Disgaea.

@thegunshow: No, they don't. Wii/DS integration was promised, but has yet to materialize in any meaningful way. Even some of the mooted ideas like downloading DS demos via Wii are a bit half-baked. I had faith when Nintendo said they were working on something big in terms of integration, but I'm starting to doubt.

Owning both systems, I find that the PSP's library has grown and matured as the DS' library has stagnated.

18 months ago, there was no doubt that the DS was the better system. Since then though there's been at least 2 or 3 good PSP games for every 1 good DS game.

Wow, this is great. I love all the stuff they're doing with PSP especially the PS3/PSP integrations. I can't wait to see what else they come out with. I'm loving God of War right now and remote play. I'm waiting for the GPS attachment to come out here in the US and I'll be good.

I don't own a Wii or DS but do they integrate with each other something like what the PSP and PS3 does? I'm just curious.

I got mine on March and I can't believe how much it has matured. 3 Years ago I laughed at Sony's attempt to go against the DS (I was one of the few who guessed the DS would prevail), but with Loco Roco, Daxtar, GOW, Crush, Logan's Shadow, etc, etc, I'm starting to favour the PSP more than my DS. Which is proof that all a system needs and only needs GAMES.----> on second thought that could go either way.

@Rebelphoenix83: Doubt it. Ready at Dawn said it themselves that they don't want Chains of Olympus to be ported. Daxter STILL hasn't been ported to the PS2, and its been out for a while. As for Crisis Core, that depends on Square Enix. It has been selling well on the PSP, so they don't really need to.

I say, play the games on the systems they were built on. Unless you know, the game in an enhanced port of an older game. Then, play the advanced version! I doubt PS2 versions of Chains of Olympus and Crisis Core would have the same charm if they were on PS2. They are PSP showcases, so let them show.

psp is pretty cool especially most recently (past half-year) with all these (s)rpgs coming out. that's all it took to get me into getting one. the ds has a different set of games that got me interested in it too. so i guess in some sort of indirect way, both portable systems complement each other for me.

@Violater: If you aren't OCD and don't mind smudges, the Piano black is a good choice. I have the white and I love mine. The PSP overall is a pretty good purchase.

@Rebelphoenix83: Its probably cause you "used" to own it that you haven't seen much.

In the last few months, the PSP has seen, Beats, Patapon, Ecochrome, not to mention God of War, and Crisis Core.

Anyway, I really hope that these titles keep rolling out, it has been a good year so far.

It's been a slow, quiet march for the PSP. I picked up a Japanese one at launch, and haven't really looked back. There have been a lot of naysayers, but it's done really well over the last few years. I'm all for portable gaming systems, really. Good on the DS and even more so for the PSP.

I think the attraction to handheld gaming is that developers have got to be economic and clever about their game design, and I think that's rather noble. Big console gaming feels excessive...maybe I'm being silly about it, but I'd rather play Syphon Filter than some of the big names on home console.

And really...where am I going to find an online multiplayer experience as hardcore as SOCOM Tactical Strike, without going back to the more restrictive Full Spectrum Warrior games?!

SOCOM Tactical Strike is a winner in my book.

By more 'very unique' titles, I hope they don't mean games like Patapon. Patapon was definitely unique, but that pata-pata-pata-pon pon-pon-pata-pon voice over and over... it kind of had a negative affect on my sanity. Loco Roco was cool, but still not that exciting.

I'd be into more deep games like MHF2- that's been my favorite experience with the PSP. What I'm really not impressed with is the non-gaming focus that Sony has taken with their hardware lately (skype, remote play, Blu-ray, etc.). It's like every time there's new news about the PSP or the PS3, it's something unrelated to it's use for gaming. Even in that article, which was about how there are more games coming, they couldn't keep it just about games:

"Koller also mentioned that upcoming PSP peripherals will include a keyboard (for internet browsing), camera and North American version of the GPS add-on planned for release this autumn."

ffs...

It's reassuring to at least hear that they are still interested in games, even though 'very unique' doesn't sound that great to me. Give me a few shmups, or some great action games. I don't need some avant-garde cutefest, just some great solid games. Something kickass like a modern RPG/beat-em-up similar to River City Ransom would be cool.

Unique as in "locoroco/patapon/lumines" unique or unique as in "this game is made for the PSP and will not be ported" unique or unique as in a brand new title of an established genre of gaming? Cause I'd prefer the latter any day.
While it's great and all that the PSP is getting Crisis Core and God of War and all of that, those are all franchises that have been done before on other systems. What the PSP really needs is some fresh blood, tailor made for it.

Is there something fundamentally wrong with the PlayStation Portable formula that is causing this to happen or are we coming to the end of a cycle after which PSP sales will begin to level out?

I can speak for myself in this case though. In the case of the DS I like it because it is a reflection of Nintendo's past products and when I get something nifty and different for the DS I know that there will be something similar on its console counterpart. My issue with the PSP is that while they do have games that satisfy this whole "it's good to be different" thing that's been going on, it is not a reflection of their console and does not compliment it.

If Sony can make these fun and different games for the PSP, why are they not also making these things for the PS3? They've had a substantial block of time in which to do this and it has remained somewhat barren. To me is appears as if the distribution of creativity is not proportional and one of their systems is suffering for it.

And I say this with all due respect for Sony and their end product because they are very good at what they do. It is my opinion and if I hear something better I'll consider it because I know there are people out there who know more about this than I do.

I couldn't have said it better. Seeing as now I took the plunge and own a PS3 and have been leaning towards making a PSP purchase just because I have to admit I like the way they are approaching the handheld market now as eariler I wouldn't have glanced in their direction.

Humble pie could have been the best thing for Sony's buffet.

The PSP seems to be going from strength to strength even though I feel it doesn't know what it's mass market is...still.

I love Patapon and LocoRoco. These games really stand out for me and if they are hinting at anything along those lines I will be more than happy. It would be nice to see games that work along side the PS3 (which seems to be the craze in recent months).

Such as Final Fanasty, which I am eagerly awaiting (as with God of War), to have mini games, trailers etc which can be viewed via the PS3 (Remote Play?). Similar perhaps to BD Live.

I haven't seen anything very unique on the PSP yet, and I used to own one, everything either gets ported to the system, or ported from the system.
