@kiigan: I was a fan of GRAW and GRAW 2, though my friends on SD sets have as yet been unable to play it since you can't read the HUD at that resolution.

Double Agent was an abortive attempt at trying to differentiate between a last-gen and next-gen title. The version people who spent the cash on a 360 got was a castrated, buggy mess. The version everyone else got was half decent. Blame Ubisoft Shanghai I guess.

I played Vegas on the PC and it was fucking terrible. On an 8800GTS the engine still stinks of a dodgy port and not worth the money, despite how awesome the multiplayer can be when it works. Better on the 360, thankfully, and that's where I'm at for sequels.

splines

This is the Ubisoft way nowadays though isn't it? Knock out a "sequel" out in a year, and fix none of the bugs that were in the previous title. I'm surprised so many gamers put up with it - all the ire that we so often direct at EA should also be shared with Ubisoft.

R6V2 is particularly disappointing as it features many of the same audio bugs that were present in the previous title, and if anything worse framerate problems. None of the levels or set pieces are as interesting or as dramatic as the previous game either - it feels like a bunch of leftovers from the R6V cutting-room floor such as warehouses, corridors etc. Also they've managed to make the match-making online play much more clunky and less reliable for this "sequel". If this had been put out as a map pack or expansion that'd be one thing, but there is absolutely no way Ubisoft can justify putting this out as a full price release.

GRAW was a bug ridden mess, as was GRAW2. Splinter Cell Double Agent was a buggy mess too, as was R6V and R6V2. Lost was a bad joke. Assassins Creed worked well enough but it was a horrible, dreary, dirge of an experience to play. How many bad games do these guys get to put out before we stop buying them?

kiigan

I was thinking about buying the PC version next month but if this is any indication, very little has changed. I think I'll pass and maybe purchase when I find it in the bargain bin a couple months from now.

Now if retailers got involved in situations like this, withholding the sale of a bunk product until any game affecting problems have been resolved, I bet studios would think twice about what they release. A chain like EB Games refusing to sell (for example) Vegas 2 would definitely get some attention.

This kind of shit is not acceptable when one buys pretty much any other product and it is not acceptable with games either. I guess it can be "justified" because of the ability to patch. Ubisoft should tender an offer to refund any purchaser that wishes it, via major retail chains such as EB Games or Best Buy, etc etc. Most probably wouldn't take up the offer but it might go along way with gamers to demonstrate that Ubisoft actually cares how playable their products are.

And no I don't think what I said is unreasonable in the slightest.

Replica23

Its exactly as I said it was. This is the same game exactly as the first one with a few different stages and a sub-par "Objectives" system to copy COD4. I"m glad they finally added a freakin sprint button. I mean, come on, what "real-life" soldier wouldn't haul ass if a grenade was lobbed his direction?
I love the game, don't get me wrong and am enjoying it. But for everyone that said this is going to be the greatest FPS of the year, well now you know better.
They didn't even fix the bugs that were in the first one for this game.
This is completely a typical Ubisoft release. Rush it out the door and then watch the thousands of complaints come piling in as they work on a patch.
I could make a list of the things they needed to fix back on the first one that are still wrong with this one.
As far as server issues, I have only seen a bit of lag here and there, but other than that, its been fine. Campaign mode is fun, but the team AI is dumb as rocks as always. Enemy AI has gotten dumber than the first one, even on "Realistic" mode.

What they should have done is, bundle all these new maps they created, and sell it as a Map-Pack for a few hundred MS points. This is basically Rainbow Six: Vegas 1.5.

Capp

This in itself is kind of hilarious. Not the incident itself but how everyone here is handling it. Everybody is acting like this is the first time something of this sort has happened ever. This has been an trend in videogames longer than most of you know. It has always been much easier for devs. to patch a game after it comes out. Just please for the life of me and everyone here let's look into the past of gaming, many many PC games at launch had a patch to download. So why are we all crying over this? It is going to get fixed and it isn't so buggy that it's unplayable (the 360 version that is) and it is still a fun game. Let's find something more intresting to talk about....like say the woman who was epicly owned by a sting ray.

oosiegewolfoo

@Noks415: "How is it possible to make a game that is so similar to its predecessor and yet so bug ridden?"

Easy: they juryrigged the old game with new content without properly QA testing it. That might not be entirely true though - it could have been thoroughly QA tested, but higher ups just said "fuggit!" and shipped it anyway.

New problems?
-Horrid texture and polygon issues on boot(and not fixed until rebooting)
-Being stuck in the helicopter when joining a coop game.

Old problems:
-Freezing/crashing
-Stuck gunfire
-Lag handling (though not bad compared to many games)
-Disconnect issues
-Texture pop-in issues during loads(and sometimes during gameplay)

Old "other" problems:
-Spawning and trigger points in terrorist hunt
-Your CPU teammates get lost and you have to go fetch them because they're lost or shopping
-Spawning and trigger points in terrorist hunt

Me and a buddy have been having a good time with the game. We've managed to beat the campaign on normal and the terrorist hunts on realistic.

The only problem we've had with the game was the final stage in the campaign. The framerate dipped so low it was almost unplayable. And it wasn't for moments here or there, it was the entire time that damn helicopter was in the area.

Oh, and the terrorist hunts can be annoying with the way the enemies spawn, but that's not too bothersome.

Otherwise, we've been having fun. I'm not a huge fan of shooters anymore, but I still enjoy clearing a room of terrorists with quick precision.

Bishmon

Then another involved on the rooftop where you fight a ton of guys and I killed every one of them and the helicopter did not even show up to pick me up.

Straight up, if you want us to buy it on day 1 for $59.99 it needs to actually work on day 1. I used to feel kinda bad waiting for $39.99 and $49.99 deals on new games, but lately I'm feeling great about it. Sort of a dumb message for developers to be sending, but trust me, we're hearing it loud and clear. I'll wait the first month of release for the bugfix and the price drop from now on, thank you very much.

What makes this specific example even more stupid is Ubisoft HAS the first Vegas title working properly and extensively debugged on both PS3 and 360 platforms. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that you should have used that code for the sequel. Here's the appropriate time to actually be lazy and they chose to reinvent the wheel instead? WTF. Just sell yourselves to EA if you're going to be this dumb, then we can all enjoy blaming EA for your mistakes instead.

crackp1pe

Really? I think that this could be used as more evidence that the UE3 is at best a pretty good engine with lots of time and patience. But Epic did good with UT3 on the PS3. In fact, that kind of experience won't be possible on the 360.
