If the makers of Rock Band and the Wii did read a site like this one, they could highly consider making either DLC or, an even better business choice such as:
A separate Wii Channel (Bought in the WiiWare Shop)that allows you to download songs for Rock Band, and if they really wanted money, i know that if they decided to make you pay for the Wii channel AND the downloadable songs, i would be up for it.
Just the DLC opens up a wide variety of business opportunities and could get them A LOT of money.
Online play is not out of the question; they have it for GH3 too you know.

You have to get licenses for all the songs you are going to use in the country you are going to use them in. It's really easy for MTV to get access to licenses for music in America...Europe or Japan, not so much. That's why DDR (Dancing Stage) has a completely different setlist in Japan, the US, and Europe.

As for DLC, Rockband DLC tracks are HUGE. You can't compare it to MP3, there are the equivalent of five MP3's per song - one for each instrument + one for the rest (background singers, other instruments, etc). So you end up with a single song taking 15 to 35MB, which is HUGE on the Wii's tiny memory. As well, I doubt the SD card slot on the Wii is capable of streaming data fast enough for 5 concurrent MP3's, it takes FOREVER to copy VC games to/from SD.

Course, Takashi Aoyama didn't mention any specific game to take advantage of DLC. Only that the concept of DLC for the Wii will occur for developers to take advantage of.

There hasn't been any explicit denial or acknowledgment that Rock Band will or will not take advantage of this service. The talk and article I linked simply confirms that the concept of DLC will occur on the Wii at some point. So I wouldn't be quick to dismiss DLC for Rock Band at this time, nor would I assumed confirmed functionality. We'll just have to wait and see.

It would make business-sense for some instruments to piggyback because then EA, MTV, and Harmonix will make some extra cash.

That would be extremely annoying and counterproductive to the whole Rock Band feel of a la cart purchasing but it would make some cash. Youd think Nintendo would wise up seeing as the type of people who would buy a Wii would also buy Rick band and any and all DLC. Epic fail.

However this does mean importing becomes a much easier option as Wii region encoding can be bypassed (and yes PS3 owners have had this possibility from the beginning). So assuming a European release is far off I'll be pre-ordering. And we can only dream that the perhiperals will be USB and perhaps cross compatible with a 360.
