Combine that with that scene and you've got Hot Coffee beat, big time. Gathering of Developers or Ritual or whoever made that, they had balls putting that stuff in... er...

My favorite two are also Blizzard ones, both the Cow Level, especially the nonchalant, incessant mooing, the incredible item drops (now sadly nerfed) and the Cow King, who looked just like his cronies (of course, he's a damn cow) but most people wouldn't kill him so that they'd be able to reenter the cow level on the same difficulty (well, be able to make the portal themselves) and he was incredibly tough at higher difficulties...and had TERRIBLE drops. My favorite is when my group spent 2 hours killing him on Hell difficulty, only to be rewarded with...9 Stamina Potions.

man_in_gauze

Let's see, other such Easter Eggs...

At some part in the first level of Serious Sam, you can find a room with all of the Dev's running around wearing Serious Sam shirts with giant brains. You can then proceed to murder them all.

There's also Romero's head on a stick in Doom 2, and the gallery of portraits in the secret room near the Quake 2 final boss. Also there was a two headed Brahmin cow from Fallout inside of Arcanum. That game also had an all powerful super monster that took the form of a little blue bunny (would transform to its real form until you attacked it).

Pezdispenser

There was a cool one in Might and Magic VI. You could do it from the beginning of the game too. In the town you start in, you go to the roof of one building, and you can teleport into a desert surrounded by dragons. You then run into this temple that you can see on the map is shaped like the developer's logo, New World Computing. There's a secret door there that takes you into a secret dungeon. The dungeon is the developer's office! It's been a while since I've played it, but I still think about it sometimes.

gishi-bushi

You could do an entire feature on the easter eggs in WoW. The Terminator 2 arm in a jar, Mario and Luigi, Lost Vikings, Planet of the Apes Statue of Liberty, numerous celebrity named look alike characters, dozens of quests named after movies, Starcraft and Diablo throwbacks, Star Wars pod racing - the list goes on and on. I swear, all the delays their games have are due to putting Easter eggs in the damn things.

Of recent games, my favourite sorta maybe Easter eggs are from the various NIS games, like Disgaea having the horse penis item from the zombie in the cutscene that you can steal or the numerous item based joke descriptions or the various appearances by characters from other games by NIS, like from La Pucelle, etc. The entire Disgaea game seems like one big easter egg.

KirbyMorph

There was a pretty cool Easter Egg in Star Wars Rogue Squadron on the N64 where a code would unlock the Naboo fighter from Episode I. Granted, the code itself wasn't impressive, but the circumstances surrounding it were. Rogue Squadron came out almost six months before the movie and the code was kept secret until the film came out.

Considering the immense secrecy that surrounded Episode I at the time, I was really surprised that Lucasfilm allowed the game developers to include this tidbit from the film. I know most Star Wars games had cool Easter eggs, but this one in particular stood out to me.

Darth Navster

Yeah easter eggs are great. but i got one for you SSBB owners but it's more of a cheat than a egg. If you want more Stickers and music cd's go to the stage maker. And make a stage with a opening on the top with conveyor belts both moving towards the middle and 2 conveyor belts that will act as your floor that are moving against the walls, so basicly it's a box with a conveyor belt top and bottom with a opening at the top (and if you don't want the second player to get in the way put a small platform between the bottom set of belts so they don't get in the way unless you have another person helping you then don't worry about it). after all that save and finish with the stage then. . Go into options, and set every item EXCEPT Sandbag off.
Now, when the Sandbags fall, they'll stay at the wall. Use your character (Kirby's basic A attack, repeatedly is recommended or another character that can hit many times quickly.) to hit the Sandbags over and over. Since all other items are turned off, only stickers and CDs will appear. This is the easiest way known to get a lot of CDs/Stickers quickly.

Just to be clear, not all of these are easter eggs. Things that require the game to be modified, or that you have to use a cheat device on, are not easter eggs. Those things were not meant as treats to the player. The player wasn't even supposed to see them. So, the FF7 Debug Room and the Hot Coffee Mod (mentioned, but not on the list) are not easter eggs. The entire point of an easter egg is a hidden treat for the player that they have to look for.

Platypus Man

How about an old obscure NES one?

In "Clash at Demonhead," there's a point in the game where Bang (the player) finds his partner (Joe) injured in a cave. If you shoot him he yells "NO!" but he's otherwise okay! As you thought he was dead, this is good news! He also knows the secret necessary to stop the bomb and save the day, and asks you to go do just that.

Okay, nothing weird so far. However, if you go back in, he'll tell you that you shouldn't be here, and you should go stop the bomb. Keep going out of the cave and back in, and eventually Joe will be a skeleton! He'll tell you (yes TELL YOU) "I'm dead," and then refill your life and give you one of each item.
... I think you're actually stealing them.

ninjafetus
