PSP does amazing now everywhere, the software could be better but the PSP sells as a general multimedia gadget to tech savy people. PSP still needs that one super hit... well monster hunter is huge on PSP and new one comes out next week but still, think PSP needs a global mass market super hit that most systems get. PSP without such a blockbuster game is selling amazingly well.

Im also currently playing the PC version which is still hounded by a lot of the design problems that were never adressed. Along with being overloaded by slightly edited / palette swapped bosses. Not to mention overly used palatte swap weapons. :x

Then its going to be on the friggin Wii so its not exactly going to leave the devs with a lot of room to make much of an improvement over the PS2 version asides from putting in UNWANTED waggle, since the game is so precision based. The last thing Id say ALL of the fans want is controls that are not tight. Then we have the wonderful issue of the Wii not being able to play proper online yet either. Unless they pull off some sort of MIRACLE at capcom I seriously doubt things are going to turn out well for the next addition to the series. Even more so when my friend and I have watched how capcom does their netcoding for the game. :/ Theres shit that would make network game programmers cry, in terms of issues that arise in relation to how the clients / servers interact.

Handhelds nowadays are advanced enough that you can enjoy a game on a PSP/DS that has tons of gameplay, and might even provide more hours of entertainment than some console titles. If we were still dealing with early generations of handhelds, then sure, but nowadays handhelds have shown they're more than capable of having good games, and could definitely compete for some game time against some console titles. (Especially in Japan, where handhelds seem to have become the favored sons of the gaming scene.)

The first next gen system that I bought was a Wii, but the first handheld that I plan to get is the PSP. That doesn't mean that I favor Nintendo over Play Station, and want them to win the counsel wars. They both just excel in different areas. One comparison that comes to mind is the sale of schooners and kayaks. No one compares them, they each have their own niche, just as handhelds and counsels have their own markets.

If you look on a macro level in terms of market share Nintendo and Sony are fairly even. Sony almost seems to prevent growth with hanging onto the PS2 so long. Potential sales are lost on an older system like that. And its nearly equal to the PS3 sales. Why is the PSP overperforming so much? Are the capabiltiies beyond a platform or are the games making it do so well? It seems to be Sony's ace in the videogame war.
