Actually, I just asked my brother that question and he answered: "Super Mario RPG 2?" That's what Paper Mario was originally supposed to be, but oh man: if they are planning anything like what I suggest, that would totally eliminate Super Mario RPG 2. I mean, if the "Paper Mario" and "Mario & Luigi" series games don't satisfy as "Super Mario RPG 2," just what would? It is time to move on and this - to sound like a cliched video-game marketing campaign of the early '90s - would truly take it to the next level.

Animal Crossing Wii is already known so likely it's that. I dunno, I mean what's the chance that they actually manage to keep anything secret for quite that long? Pretty low I should think. So it's probably something that we already know they're doing, just don't have a date for yet.

F-Zero I can see but probably they would wait a little longer after Mario Kart before doing another first-party racing game?

And isn't Wii Music (mentioned in the post) announced already for Japan? So that could be part of the 'expanded audience' announcement at E3.

Anyway, I'm not really disagreeing with other people's suggestions either (er well except the people who suggested games that aren't by Nintendo... sigh... but I mean things like Kid Icarus, Pikmin, Starfox, etc).

Obviously the honest answer is 'I don't know', which is obvious, or the more detailed answer is 'never believe the hype, and don't get your hopes up beforehand'. Gamers are sometimes a bit crap at that though :)

I would love to predict a New Zelda but that's almost out side the realm of possibility.
Even if they built it on the twilight engine, they always want to out do them self's.
So I'll put that in the possible but very unlikely section of guessing list.

But you never know, Nintendo like to risk it and put something out there that may seem like it won't work and then it dose work.
Who knows maybe they'll make voice chat, or a MMO, or maybe a way to play online that doesn't suck. (Friend codes)

We'll just have to wait and see

I really don't care if it's another update of a character from their stable. I never grew up with Nintendo, so these announcements of Mario-this and Donkey Kong-that don't get me very excited.

What I'd like to see is a GPU and Wii motion sensor upgrade, followed closely by some new IP.

thing is, they'd have to put the next one on the wii-- they've shot themselves in the foot so to speak, because there's no other way to import pokemon. D/P make use of the GBA slot for importing. there's nothing left after that.

and they wouldn't release a new pokemon a mere YEAR after the last one came out.

safest bet? new Zelda, won't be Metroid(Prime 3 this past year already), won't be Mario(Mario Galaxy this past year), Pikmin 3, Donkey Kong Wii(if they can do as good a job as they did with DKC and DK64, i'm all for it. imagine if you will, a DKC with Galaxy graphics and controls.), or.... Animal Crossing Wii. it already has a release date of holiday 08 in japan, you think they'd go and be awesome and do a worldwide release?

whenever this question comes up, one thing always pops up from the back of my mind: Pit. why the hell is Pit of all people in Brawl? i can see game and watch and ice climbers from melee, but Pit's in there for no apparent reason! it's like he's there for foreshadowing purposes. same with the kirby trio. so it could also be Kirby Wii.(although, sakurai may be wanting to take a slight break from TWO YEARS of making brawl. so probably not.)

so logically, it can't be metroid, and it can't be mario. that really narrows it down. -_-

- the Pokemon Stadium games didn't feature a full-blown RPG in the sense that Colosseum did
- but Colosseum's major shortcoming was that all of the Pokemon you captured were predetermined, one shot ventures. There were no wild creatures, there was no breeding, etc. The one Forretress you caught was the only one you caught, etc.
- so notice I said above, Colosseum was the first to feature all three: RPG gameplay, lengthy story mode (something Sta1, Sta2, and Sta3 lacked), and the 3D package to boot.

Anyway, I think the Pikmin fans will probably wind up proving correct in the end, but I'd like it to be a Pokemon holiday if it's not Pikmin -- 'cause I just don't see Animal Crossing as being any different than "offline WoW for Nintendo freaks," and to me that doesn't scream "casuals." It screams Phantasy Star Online with furry animals. Pokémon, despite its own cult following, is something which has penetrated the public consciousness to a much greater degree than Animal Crossing has. Ask anybody if they know who Pikachu is and they'll tell you. I don't think you can do the same for Tom Nook. :)

* When Reggie says "casuals," I don't think he's referring to casual gamers in the sense of the word in 2002, guys. 2002, where we would say the guy who's played every Final Fantasy is "hardcore" and the "casual" guy is the one who's only beaten VII and touched VI and X. In today's world, the term "casual gamers" refers to all those senior citizens playing Wii Sports, all those soccer moms playing Brain Age, etc. So you can forget it with your cries for Kid Icarus, Earthbound, and Zelda -- much as I'd love to see some of these myself! These properties were never for the casuals (in the present sense of the term "casual gamer"); and judging from how Twilight Princess and Metroid Prime 3 were designed and marketed, Nintendo's geekiest IPs will probably remain geeky and casual-inaccessible throughout the Wii's lifespan.

To be honest, while it sounds cool I don't see Nintendo going down that road even if the options are there--they have no reason to. I mean, none of their more prominent IPs need high performing graphics. Their charm comes from their cartoonish look. Of course, this is notto say that other developers wouldn't benefit from Nintendo giving them the option of doing their games to the graphical extent that they please. Perhaps Silicon Knights would still be here if such was the case.

Since Nintendo bought and now owns development house Monolithsoft (creators of, among other things, the Xenosaga and Baten Kaitos games), I'm hoping they're at work on a Wii title. We know they're making action RPG "Soma Bringer" to the DS, and the game looks and sounds awesome (complete with Yasunori Mitsuda soundtrack!), and when Monolithsoft was bought, Satoru Iwata made some commentary to the effect of Nintendo wanting to have more original IP RPG franchises. Well, that's Monolithsoft's specialty, and I'd really like to see a full-blown effort by them, made especially for the Wii. It'd have the advantage of not only being made by a cool development house, but being a quality RPG on a system without much in the way of RPGs. I could easily see sales of Tales of Symphonia's proportions, as eager RPG fans are finally able to get their fix on a Nintendo system.

Why Nintendo has never been big on RPGs is a mystery to me, unless it's simply because they have a fine time succeeding without them (which is sort of the reason I attribute to Microsoft not giving too much of a flip about console RPGs on Xbox). My hope is that Nintendo does develop a legitimate RPG franchise they can call their own (aside from Fire Emblem, which is an SRPG), and that this future game encourages more studios to develop RPGs for Nintendo's systems.

So...my favorite prognostication is: original IP RPG for Wii, by Monolithsoft.

My "believable" guess is: Animal Crossing Wii is something I hadn't thought of (since I don't play the series), but the reasoning behind supposing the announcement to be this is pretty solid.
