Anyway, I found Kotaku about two years ago when a friend of mine in high school mentioned it to me. I checked it out, and loved it, I had to read every article that was available at the time. I'd check in about every week, slowly changing into every day. Pretty soon my usual habit was to check multiple times a day, which I still do unless I am prevented from doing so. Anyway, my story:

I was thinking about purchasing an Xbox360 and got weary of the RROD. I looked specific keywords and phrases up on the Internet when trying to determine the cause before I even had the console, and I stumbled upon a Kotaku article describing it (the early launch cause which was led-free solder IIRC).

At the time, I had no friggin idea there was a blog like this dedicated to games - to be honest, I had thought all blogs were about bullshit, web diaries or fun (as in funny videos & pictures).

Also, before this console generation started, I always was in the background and hadn't even known there was such a thing as console wars or even exclusivity. I was under the impression that games, such as GTA, were only on the PS consoles simply because they were made by Sony (or something like that).

Nonetheless, I mostly had Nintendo consoles all the time and basically took what they threw at me (the disappointment started only with the GameCube). At the time I had pretty much decided to rid myself of gaming consoles all together and focus on PC games (which I had been playing simultaneously so far, starting around the N64 launch) solely. This was based on several reasons, one being the games really worth getting on the GameCube I could count with one hand, another the high price of mentioned software (yes, I was a software pirate).

As time went by and I heard from friends that the Xbox360 was actually pretty cool, I looked at some footage of the games and stepped into the HDTV marketing plot (which successfully blinded me at first). I bought HDTV equipment to go with an Xbox360 all at once, spending a small fortune. As I mentioned before, the Xbox360 lead me to explore Kotaku.

Once I got used to the blog scheme, independence and honesty of this page, I didn't want to settle for any other source of videogame related news, their bureaucracy, or bias. On Kotaku, I could get coverage on games I hadn't even heard of (well...sometimes, but it does happen) and keep track of the latest plus craziest rumours. Not to mention the frequent features that involve lots of community interaction, the Frankenreviews and the list goes on.

Also, you guys at Kotaku make some delicious f*cking cake. Yummi.
