Thats the Sonic I want to see. Gimme a Sonic that has a Max Payne edge to him.
I'd love to see a rated M sonic game for intense cartoon violence and gore. I wanna see eggman's bots put their hands up in front of their face like it is going to deflect the blue blurr from turning them into scrap, and forget saving the little birds inside, kill them too sonic. The world has treated you poorly.

Yes, I'll admit there have been mistakes(looking at you, Silver), but I'd say that for the purpose of keeping the story a little fresher, Sonic Team's had to reach a bit, and I think they've done ok. Yes, there should never have been a gun in Shadow's hand. Yes, Rouge was visually designed for fanboys. Yes, Blaze the Cat's cross universe situation was annoying. So what?

Rouge is an interesting character now in the Archie comics, Shadow's getting there, and Blaze CAN be good IF Archie comics finds a good way of uncomplicating her situation so she can be a bigger part of the series(and what do you have against purple, friend?).

So don't hate Sonic Team for adding in a new character or two...or twenty, if they decide. Hate them for not backing up the characters or story you don't like with great gameplay.

Anyway, I wanted to add one last point. I see it's been mentioned already, but I wish to further reiterate it. Why oh why did they change Robotnik to Eggman?! Also... exactly when was the change? If I remember rightly, I read a little Sonic book when I was about seven, and it explained his origins. Apparently (according to this book at least, not sure exactly how 'canon' it is haha) he was originally a nice doctor named Kintobor, who even designed Sonic's special 'speedy shoes'. Anyway, long story short, horrible lab explosion, Doc goes from thin to fat, good to evil, Kintobor to Robotnik. (It's backwards, see?)

So yeah... why Eggman? Why the Hell Eggman?

I really, REALLY want to like Sonic's shitty friends. But deep down, I hate them with a burning passion. I grew up with the 16-bit sprites on the Genesis, and I still love those little guys. But because of Sega's... incompetence, I can't stand them anymore. Bioware, please, do this right. If you can't, there's no hope for my favorite blue hedgehog.

Knuckles I can agree with, Knuckles is cool. And he's an echidna! How obtuse an animal is that? I mean, even the real animal kinda deserves some respect. They are one of the two mammals in the world which lay eggs, they have a four-headed [insert male genital slang word here], and look like a hedgehog crossed with an anteater. Pretty sweet, I say.

Shadow I thought looked pretty badass, but... another knockoff hedgehog? Not exactly necessary.

I'm not gonna mention any other characters, because most of them just aren't worth it, but (I'm prepared for any hate, don't worry) I do have a soft spot for both Vector and Espio. I don't know why. Team Chaotix just remind me of when I read the Sonic comic as a child. Good times.

And at least we can be thankful that Manic the green hedgehog and his "amazing" drum "powers" from Sunic Undergrounf haven't made it into any games. (I think).

Personally, Sonic still has a fighting chance to regain his dignity. It just needs the right person to step in and put his fingers Sega's mold. In the 90s, Sonic was a mascot that pertain to teen-20 something demographic. Now, he's been reduced to a fisher-price toy that's an embarrassment to the company he represents. Though I'm really surprised nobody has mentioned this, but I believe Sega should acknowledged their most cherished, underrated, and neglected Sonic characters that actually have fans and supporters. I'm referring to the Freedom Fighters that debuted in the SatAM cartoon show and Archie Comics. To this day, I still consider that incarnation to be the best and it would be a perfect setting for the RPG game. A cohesive storyline that involves a malicious dictator that has overthrown the planet Mobius; enslaving the populace as his robot slaves. Sonic and his band of Freedom Fighters team up to thwart the evil Dr. Robotnik in hope to restore peace.

Now let's talk about characters. Why did Sega change Dr. Robotnik to Eggman? It sounds like a rejected Mega Man villain and doesn't necessarily strike terror in the heart of his foes. Robotnik is not only more menacing, but it symbolically represents his persona and intentions. Robotnik is a polish word that translates to "slave worker" which is what Robotnik is. He turns innocent victims into robots. Please Sega, Eggman is a joke and has been ever since Sonic Adventure. If Bioware bothered to do their research (which they claimed they did), they'd consider implementing SatAM/Archie Characters. Princess Sally, Bunnie Rabbot, Anotnie, Dulcy and of course Sonic and Tails. You can tell that the creators of the show and comics invested a lot of time shaping these characters cause they're not just one dimensional cardboard cutouts like Silver or Blaze, they actually have personalities and abilities that are worthy to the battle field. Throughout their 17 year existence, there's never been a next gen Sonic character that's been so endearing and as the Freedom Fighters.

Let's be sincere for a second. We can all agree that Rouge, Silver, Blaze, and whatnot have no appeal and never have. If Sega truly wants to save their mascot and their company, they should hire better writers, game developers and research on what made Sonic great in the first place. Though it may seem risky, but I personally believe that if Sega were committed to the SatAM/Archie and canonized it with their game storylines throughout the 90s and 00s, Sonic would be more epic than Mario! Whether you agree/disagree with my assessment, I think Sega has been sitting on a goldmine here cause SatAM/Archie is the reason I became a Sonic fan years ago. Ironic how Sega purposely neglects their prize creations, while they churn out unoriginal, uninspiring characters from the Sonic Team template machine. Its depressing that the only Sonic fix I can get is through the Archie Comics. At least they still recognize Sally and others as their central character still. Anyway, I think Ill end it here. I apologize if this post is a tad wordy, but since it's my first post here I seriously wanted to vent my frustration since I'm annoyed to see "I hate Sonic" topics surface here all the time.

I think the Sonic games need more open-ended gameplay with a more in-depth worldview (not Sandbox level), or just further refine his games. it feels like I've been playing Sonic Adventure for ten years. A little innovation would be nice (though my friends and I joke about how Super Mario Galaxy was just a glorified version of Rouge's outer space stage in SA 2). Sonic Heroes was fun, though.

But then again... that's one of my biggest problems with games in general... WAY too much time is spent on lame, irritatingly bad scripts and cutscenes in games that shouldn't have scripts or cutscenes to begin with.

And people act like it's just something easily added to games... but really, unless you have a TON of time to work on your game it's a very taxing process for artists and programmers (esp when the programmers have never worked on a game for whatever console). Plus cutscenes and special animations take SO much time to produce that it (almost) ALWAYS cuts into the quality of the game, cos designers and artists are working around the clock trying to get stupid cutscenes in.

It's not the characters that make the series, IT'S THE GAMES!! Yea, Sonic has had a FEW bombs recently. Mainly Shadow, and the unforgivable Sonic2k6. But that's SonicTeams fault. They're the ones who put in the horrible gameplay. But, when they leave it to other developers. Sonic Rush was an excellent game, and Blaze the Cat is the best character in the series since Knuckles.

Neither of which applied in the 16-bit titles (hence the love-for/ambivalence-towards Tails and Knuckles), and neither of applies to Sonic Chronicles, so just chill.

And anyone who found Tails annoying in Sonic 2... If you had a second player controlling Tails, he was pure awesome, and if you couldn't get through the special stages minus the rings Tails inevitably loses, you could've either switched it to "Sonic Only" in the options (which also lowers the ring count necessary to pass the stage), or just... not sucked so much.

miles "tails" prower - hes classic, but besides that.. he always annoyed me, even as a 9 year old. but i did think a 2 tailed fox that could fly was a cool idea. oh and that his name was "miles per hour" was pretty cool too.

amy/princess sally - well.. sonic needed someone to rescue, cue the helpless female stereotype. i didnt mind her when she didnt have a voice.

nack the weasel/fang the sniper - hmm.. didnt know much about him, just thought he was pretty cool looking, a purple weasel with a blue nose. then again i was 10, but see.. thats the thing, ive still never heard him talk, so im okay with him.

ray the flying squirrel - another character that never annoyed me because we hardly saw him. random characters showing up that i dont necessarily have to play as and that have minor roles dont really bug me.

mighty the armadillo - same as ray. another thing about these characters that i dont mind is that they look alot like sonic, in other words, they fit in.

vector the crocodile - okay.. he was originally created to be one of the band members in sonic's band that would play the songs in the soundtest in the first sonic. thats cool and all, but once again, a useless character.

charmee bee, heavy, and bomb - lol... thats all im going to say.

espio the chameleon - finally a decent character. not only did i like his design, i always thought it was interesting that he changed colors. and the name espio always intrigued me, but once again, i was a kid. i was like 12 years old here. chaotix was a terrible game and id like to forget it.

knuckles - okay.. most sonic fans (at least when i was 11 and he was introduced) either liked him more or just as much as sonic. theres nothing to say about it, he was just cool.

big the cat - a huge, purple rip off of the cheshire cat. i hated fishing, his voice was stupid, and his inclusion made no sense. dont get me wrong, i loved adventure, but why did they end up in a place with humans and cars all of a sudden? all this time, sonics world looked completely different and wild, now it was more realistic, and i didnt get it. although adventure was decent, it was really the decline in any credibility sonic would ever have again (storywise).

e102r - hey.. i wont lie, i loved his chapter in sonic adventure. he was pretty fun to play as. in fact, hes one of the best characters i think, simply because getting to play as one of robotniks latest robots, and to see him have a conscience, only to watch him die after you get into him was great. besides, they killed him off, so its no big deal.

shadow the hedgehog - honestly, i think he's a solid character (sans the gun toting). i think the main reason so many of us "old heads" dislike him is because we're.. old, and hes associated with sonic games that just arent fun. if he was in an old school, side scrolling sonic from the 16 bit era, i think he would have been liked better by our kind.

rouge the bat - what in the world is she wearing? why did they have to make her boobs so big? wait.. whats the point in her being in this series? i hate sonic team.

cream the rabbit - i actually like her much better than amy. i think part of it is because mario land 2 was my favorite mario game of all time before galaxy (weird choice i know), and the flying bunny concept was awesome to me. but yeah, she has a minor role that isnt forced upon you, so shes fine.

blaze the cat - okay, purple characters need to stop now. she makes the 4th, and the whole nega universe thing was silly to me. but her having the ability to control fire was really dope. so she gets a pass.

marine the raccoon - another character that i didnt mind, she has a "classic" feel to her design, and i like that. but really did we need more characters?

silver the hedgehog - okay im stopping on this one, what a terrible looking character, and i think there are enough hedgehogs in this series now. its like the plumbers in mario.. stop it. even his telekinetic powers dont save him from being a lame throwaway character. please no new characters sonic team.. please.

i left out a few extremely forgettable, severely minor (and not needed) characters from games like sonic riders, and sonic the fighters, because i only included folks from the platforming games.

Sure, Mario RPG didn't have the deepest of a plot, or amazingly interesting characters but the game didn't take itself seriously like Sonic games do. All other Mario RPGs don't either, which makes them get the 50% plot enjoyment part.

There's no way they can expect us to take colorful, fuzzy animals seriously. Well, unless you're a furry... Not to mention that people like Geno and Mallow were original characters made for the game. Sonic's chums have already built up a history of loathing within the hearts of everyone. The only way Bioware will make my like any of those crappy add-ons is if they all die.

Playing this game will be the equivalent of playing Knights of the Old Republic except the Star Wars plot elements are swapped for the plot elements of Bubsy.

All I can say is, BioWare has a very certain example of taking a franchise thought to be going down the videogame tubes and giving it such a big jolt that games with that name are respected again. I'm hoping lightning will strike twice for them.

I could care less about the Sonic story, like Mario its incidental to the fact that there have been some awesome games with the character. I try to avoid the ones that look bad, like many of the recent games, but I still love the 2D Sonic stuff, and this reminds me of it, a little Mario RPG...I'm just saying this might be good, and I don't care who is in it. They can't be any stupider than Geno from Mario RPG, IMO =P

"Touching Amy" mingame where you have to use the stylus to lift her skirt and "hammer" her home.

"Sonar Shout Rouge" minigame -scream into the mic to confuse rouge so you can rip off her wings with the stylus.

"Big, BIG Cat" tapping the L/R button and blow into the mic to pump up Big the cat till he explodes, later on you run into a clone of Big. You have to force him to eat froggy then drown him.
