@kickass solo(my GT): Actually, the main franchise Mario games that are actually worth every dollar have been selling less and less since he went 3D... fun fact.

Also, this game doesn't look half bad in motion, but Brawl put me to the being used to Donkey Kong having a fur filter...

@DreamcastRIP: Dreamcast you mean, Gamecube was quite a beast but since the system was highly unpopular few games really pushed it. It was more powerful than the PS2 but not as powerful as the XBOX but even then the Gamecube still had advantages over the XBOX... heh just quit saying junk about the 'cube it wasn't a bad system...

I love my Wii. I love Nintendo product in general.

I absolutely hate this.

Everything I've seen just looks...wrong. It looks last-gen, it FEELS last-gen. I'm a big fan of the online play, if it works as advertised, and even the motion-control steering, but, and this especially applies to the silly new "bikes", they look to have no weight to them at all. They appear to just sort of be floating, just above the surface of the track.

It's expecially evident in the early shots of Peach, just after she gets her star. She's tilting side to side, but her wheels do nothing at all. It's as though she's superimposed on a scrolling background.

Sorry. This fanboy's lost. I don't get it.

It's confirmed that you can use standard nunchuck/wiimote controls using the joystick to move left and right.

I don't know about the bikes but I really don't see the problem so many people are having with the game. If you don't want to play another Mario Kart game then cool, don't. Nintendo has very clearly shown itself to be a company of tradition and old standbys. Complaining that the game looks like, well, a Mario Kart game is like complaining about hot wings being spicy. Don't friggin eat them then!

Disappointment at the direction the series is taking is fine if that's what you're going for but really, do you expect the novelty/graphics combo that so many gamers want right now to be dished out by Nintendo of all people? They make money from people like me and my friends who still pull out Mario Kart 64 every now and again because we still have fun with it. Basically, if its fun: awesome. If not: oh well. I'm just not going to complain that my ham sandwich doesn't taste like a roast beef one.

I am a total sucker for the look of Mario games - the whole visual make-up of the Mushroom Kingdom and the bizarre Nintendo genre of music that accompanies it. Seeing the game in motion I'm really looking forward to this - the sounds are classic in approach but I know for one I'd be bummed if it was too much of a departure.

I don't need another Mario Kart 64, I have Mario Kart 64 for that so I'm happy to see bikes and the other minor new additions.

Honestly there wasn't much of any change that the Mario Kart series needed. It hit a successful formula probably as long ago as the SNES era, and by the N64 was already refined enough. Nintendo realized they wanted to make "another MarioKart game" for the Wii, and did just that. The only real innovation to the series is an attempt to make it even more casual-gamer friendly. This game was only announced at E3 and I expect the development cycle was fairly short, since it was intended essentially as an online Wii port of the previous MarioKart games. It looks like DoubleDash because it probably IS DoubleDash with a few (poorly applied IMO) graphical upgrades. Since they've made no real effort to reinvent the series with this title, I can't find myself even slightly excited for this game. Still, unless they managed to break what the previous MarioKarts had going for them, it will probably still be quite fun. It's the same game we've all played before, but a good game at that.

@cheesecake000: Any amount of bloom is too much bloom. At least it takes care of some of the aliasing, what with it being a gaussian blur and all. (Shouldn't be a gaussian blur, but it is.) Still, I'd rather they use higher res textures and such than a frame buffer at least 4 times as large.

Besides the fact that I mostly disagree with you on your first point (I'll let that slide as that's not the issue), I still have to say it doesn't look good graphically OR gameplay wise.

I expect more from a 1st party Nintendo game ESPECIALLY after Super Mario Galaxy. This barely looks as good as Double Dash if that.

More importantly though, the gameplay just looks kind of...dull. Granted, I've slowly gotten tired of MK after the 64 version but I still enjoyed DD. This just looks sort of boring for a MK game. Like their phoning it in.

I was totally underwhelmed by that video. I was hoping (with all the hype I'd heard) that it'd be a great game for the Wii. It still might be a great game, but I've seen nothing that would give me more than 10 minutes of entertainment.

Double Dash felt like some strange happy land that you kind of roam around in and not race in.

I spent the whole video looking at lap times for each of the tracks shown. The thing I hated the most about Double Dash, besides the lack of a hop button, was the ridiculously short tracks. One good thing I noticed about Mario Kart Wii was there was at least one track that takes more than a minute to complete a lap. I really hope there are more than a few long courses in Mario Kart Wii.

After Super Mario Galaxy I expect more from the Wii graphics wise. Add in the Miis and that stupid wheel and this has to be the least excited I've ever been for a Mario Kart game.

I'm actually happy that Nintendo didn't go full out with Mario Kart Wii media. After the info / spoiler fest that was Brawl, it's always nice to have a game that you know is going to be great or, at the least, enjoyable one way or the other, but you don't know absolutely everything about it. It makes the game's release all the more exciting.

Graphics are, of course, not the best but I like what I see. Nice framerate, gameplay is more or less the same but what's wrong with updating a franchise if each addition is fun?
