@Witzbold:

Very slow and complex, with a completely useless tutorial. Compared to Homeworld, I think it's much easier to control and has an infinitely better interface (once you figure it out). It also takes place on a 2d-plane of 3d space, so you don't have to worry about all the different 3rd-dimension movement that sometimes (in my opinion) made Homeworld a bit of a chore to control and follow.

Games, even on a small map, will take hours and hours. Games on a large map could go on for weeks at a time. Homeworld had a much better story (as in, it had a story).

Overall, while I liked Homeworld, I really, really like Sins. It's probably in my top 5 or so RTSs of all-time, along with Company of Heroes, Age of Empires II, Black & White 2, and Empire Earth 1.

Also, it begs comparison to Supreme Commander because of the scale and the icons that represent different things because of how far you zoom out. One thing that really, really pissed me off about SC was that it had these really cool graphics, but you only saw the icons and a flat map most of the time because you couldn't control shit when the camera was close. Sins remedies this partly through scale (large capital ships, tiny squadrons of fighters/bombers), partly through scenery (cool planet/space/nebulous backgrounds), partly through interface (icons on a sidebar for your ships/structures as well as enemy ships in the planet's gravity well), and partly through the cool effects in-battle.

@RockstarLlama:

You're right, it runs and scales very well. I don't get slowdown until I get close to ship max with hundreds of ships. (My favorite thing: Getting 150+ bomber squads. You attack a capital ship, and it gets housed in one pass. All the bombs homing in looks just ridiculous, there are thousands in space at a time. Hilarious.)

Strangelove

You guys are so noob. Sins of Solar Empire is enjoying the initial spur of purchase by the hardcore gamers having been released recently.

The dominant buyers of PC gamers are casual and average gamers, which is why the chart is usually dominated by games that have socially active player-base, while games that do not have them will rise and fall then disappear.

ssh83
