I was hyped for this game back in 07, for the sole reason that me and my friend (I am in Denmark, he is in the US) were going to tear up the Coop and MP. It sounded awesome as hell.

And now this fucking shit. As if I didn't hate EA enough, they come along and take a huge sweaty dump in my face. Thank you.

It makes no sense whatsoever, hyping up a game solely based on COOP, and then region locking it. It's like seeing porn for the first time, and thinking 'hey this looks fun' and then getting your dick chopped off.

If they don't fix this, oh so help me god.

cdr

@Witzbold: ...you could start playing shooters on the PS3...I dunno if the J/A version is incompatible with the US version for the 360, but it's working for me with the PS3 version.

Of course, if you want to reduce lag 'n such, you should implement a player option to only play with a particular region. This isn't just consoles - I have 2 copies of Hellgate because the Asia version only allows playing on Asian servers(server service agreements figure into the retail price....ugh), and I want to play with friends in the US. Lame.

@-EDGE-: Asia to US works fine for PS3 version. Dunno about PAL/Euro compatibility, since I don't have friends there.

Chef

It's ridiculous, and obviously just a way for EA to cut corners and rush Army of Two out to market after it's series of delays STILL not being able to fix the problem of crappy network code.

EA's Burnout Paradise (released in january, made from a different team in-house) allows multi-region multiplayer, and even with 8 people in the room, the games usually run flawlessly.

Bungie had one of the biggest server loads EVER with Halo 3, yet you could still play 16 player BTB with Yanks without a hitch.

So why can't EA do it for a 2 player game? LAZINESS and INCOMPETENCE from whichever house made this one. The game itself is glitchy, and the network code follows suit.

Juganawt

EA are being silly here. Why buy a game that only lets you play with people local to you? The whole point of the internet is to share information across the globe and EA cannot even handle the Atlantic?

Considering that England is way smaller than the states if this continues it would make finding games very hard - A cardinal sin with a game that spouts online co op as its main reason for existence.

Like people said earlier on this thread, regional servers should be optional, not enforced. EA have lost a potential sale from me on this one. I was already worried that local network play was mucked up but this just takes the biscuit.

EdwinJ85

This exactly reiterates my point.

Why the FUCK are we paying a monthly fee for 1) No dedicated servers on 99% of the games, 2)There are absolutely zero 24/7 ranked server with each map on rotation on any game on xbox360.

I was absolutely confused after PC gaming for 7-8 years then hopping over to live and paying a fee to play what I used get for free.

Some of it is ok, Dashboard is easy of use and rarely I get any outages. Great service and it does the job.

But where are my fucking 24/7 maps, or at least the choice of choosing a map I want to play.

I thought I was doing something wrong in Halo 3 and COD4 when I had zero options to choose the maps I want to play. Maybe I still am missing something, but I was expecting game lobbies a la every single motherfucking PC game that has multiplayer enabled. Xbox live went 2 steps forward in console-online gaming and got stuck in pre-Doom IP days.

Fyren

Meaning that everytime you want to play with someone you have to schedule it. Then they dont allow you to play multiple player modes with someone unless youve both unlocked the same levels. Then they make co-op on the same system impossible unless you both have gold accounts. Now this. You think a game specifically built around co-op would allow you the freedom to play it in co-op however you want.
Im not even going to touch the fact the everyone is praising EA for pushing this games release back.

As I understand it (May not be right, but this is just what I hear), this is a limitation of EA's games, because when you sign onto an EA game on XBox Live, and you have to sign that EA EULA, you're basically giving your personal/usage data to EA, something no other gaming company [is allowed to] do.

Originally when EA wanted to do multi player on 360, they wanted to use their own servers, Microsoft didn't like that, but once EA withheld multi player from Madden one year they changed their tune and reached a compromise. Since EA mainly just wanted the marketing data, Microsoft let them take that data if users agreed to EA's own EULA.

So now EA has our personal/usage data, doesn't have to use their own servers (maybe), but I am guessing the price for all this is no cross border play. :( Aww. So it's not that they can't do it, they just don't want to sacrifice their bread and butter. Would upset the shareholders.

So blame EAs greed for this one.

Meh. Usually if I play online games that aren't in their prime, there are 5-10 people online TOTAL. This only fractions those once this isn't brand-new anymore.

I'm actually really disappointed when I'm in an MMO or something and they split it off into regional servers. I used to play Ragnarok - when I started there were Filipinos, Thais, Indonesians and Europeans in addition to all my fellow North Americans. Korea and Japan were already taken. When I quit it was just North Americans and a few stragglers who didn't move to the Europe server when it opened. While still quite varied, it became much more homogenous than it was.

One of the neatest things about playing Diablo 1 was meeting people from all over the world at different times of day. If any filter will be imposed without options, how about just a minimum ping to join a game ot ensure it works properly?

fuchikoma

There are not a ton of maps, the weapon selection is really small, and the single player is just way too short.
Army of Two gave me some good times, for a short while however I think I would have felt different if I did not purchase it. To me this game is not 60.00 worth of fun, it is the poster child for a rental.

Gadgetron

LIVE itself wouldn't have this problem (this is the first time I heard developers even worried about server load on an XBL game) since games usually only depend on XBL Servers for stats and match making. Also, the last EA game I played was Burnout Paradise which required me to register but I was playing with people all over the world. Color me confused. I definitely second the sentiment of not wanting this to become a trend.
Granted theres not enough maps, plus it would have been interesting to see 3 or 4 2man team VS matches going down.

Witzbold

Its rather odd that they chose to do this instead of just going P2P like most other games. Since its just 2 vs 2 + AI.

Granted I can see the gameplay being REAL fucked up if your partner is lagging like hell or the other way around if you are connected to a host far away.

Hey, I'm that Linus!

I got the game so I could play with a friend of mine in the US. I can understand there being a problem with hosting a 16 player game cross continent, but the problems should be significantly reduced in a 2 vs. 2 game, I'd have thought. EA didn't actually announce the problem, largely because of them being cunts.

If there is a problem with lag, then let me experience it, and I'll make the choice whether I want to put up with it. EA taking the choice out of my hands really sucks. They could show ping rates or whatever.

Von Linus
