Yeah! Another wretched video game abomination coming to a theatre near you. He doesn't even really look like Max Payne, except for the fact that he's Caucasian and has dyed his hair black. He can't really act,which I suppose bodes well for him for this movie (there's not a lot of talking in the game).

Regardless, I'm surprised Wahlberg still gets acting jobs, I guess not enough people know about his racist tirade where he attacked and blinded an old Vietnamese man.

You obviously do not know the feeling of characters with a similiar loss and know for a fact that you become vegetative and while seemingly being able to grasp the reality, it disappears like dust. While you may worry about a grocery run, I've stared blankly at a quarter for hours induced in insanity while being sane at the same time, all while shouldering life like everyone else.

Let me point to S.cham's work of an Indian chief that lost both his wife and daughter. Grief and anguish will dominate the victim's life and induce a "blank" eye effect whereas the "vengeance" and "revenge" demeanor is fully exposed in that IMMEDIATE moment victim has relinquished the life-long pain. Its not clenching your fist, raising your eyebrow, fiery eyes, throughout the whole movie.

Because if you really did experience a similar loss, you would feel like a jackass for having no idea what your talking about

Also You obviously have not watch Departed as he does not depict the character. It was Leo's character, not Mark.

What a horrendous casting. Marky mark?, I loved him in the adaptation of "The Departed" and somewhat in "Italian Job". But has completely missed the mark on this movie

Max Payne= A character when looked into the eyes or zoomed in with a 6mm should distinctly show pain, solitude, and a hint of vengeance, only a HINT. You can't even portray such emotion unless one has gone through the psychological experience

Max Payne= As to the contrary belief, this movie should be half action and a true depiction of Noir story as the other half. I can't even think of a single actor let alone Vanilla-ice lite to portray a philosophical yet gritty driven story that should become a thoughful and fun "Sin City" supersize.

Mark is just too young, too short, too pretty to be anywhere near this movie.

Another Director/producer who has no fucking clue about Max Payne. Chalk him up next to Michael Bay and send this ship over to some remote island.

When you get past all the Hollywood Bullshit-Drama that they force feed the media in order to keep actors on the radar, and you objectively look at the work he's done, you can really see just how good of an actor he is, Fight Club for one, and Se7en for another. Big fan of the Max Payne series but I was never a fan of the hallucinations at all (ugh the crappy platforming) so I hope the film doesn't have no scenes at all. Considering i'm on such a big Wire fan I think someone like Dominic West would have been a great choice but Wahlberg after seeing in the Departed seems suitable playing cops but hopefully he pull off those heavy scenes. we'll see. but yeah they totally got the look down right and like what i said on Console Patrol (www.consolepatrol.com) its good that this is set in New york compared to that other vigilante film (punisher...) that wasnt.

@Deltakiral: oh come on! The RE series has been HOT! You're likely too young to appreciate how sweet the first movie was (I was playing the game when it first came out).

As for Marky Mark playing Max, I think he can pull it off (Keanu would NOT have been a better choice). But Jason Statham would have been WAAAAAAY better in Hitman, hands down.

Call me crazy, but I would have LOVED to see a really emaciated, haggard looking Brad Pitt playing Max. I think if he gave half of the energy he put into Fight Club it would be stunning.

Even if it's a video game movie, I might see it anyway, as a big fan of noir...but if they screw that up...

I think the best idea for creating a video game movie is to either be very strict to the original game (because a lot of games have a proper story already, just use that DAMMIT), or just use the base elements from the game and focus on making a good movie (although then fanboys would cry foul as the movie would stray too far from the game, never mind the movie's quality). If Pirates of the Caribbean can make an appealing movie just off of a freakin' theme park ride, then a proper video game movie shouldn't be too hard.

Speaking of PotC, I've always had this idea to take the best lines from the first Monkey Island game and just use that as the script for a movie...who's interested?

You people need to relax. This is a candid shot smuggled off the scene, not something he posed for. Comments on his facial expression or the fact that he doesn't look like Max Payne are useless.
Given the video game movie track record, this will probably be a bad movie. The site linked also says "...recent reports hint that the film is trying to achieve PG-13 rating, and we just can't see Max's character been portrayed correctly under the confines of that rating."
But none of that is going to be Marky Mark's fault.

Max Payne is particularly well-suited for a movie adaptation: fast-paced plot, a beautiful love story, classic scenes (Mona raining death from above, the creepy nightmare sequences, the amusement park, etc.), great villains with Cognitti and Vlad.

I remember I couldn't stop playing those games because I always wanted to get to the next cinematic cutscene or graphic novel episode.

Now, the movie... Apart from the fact that, whether or not you like Wahlberg as an actor, he looks nothing like Max Payne, the thing that scares me is rumours that they're going for a PG-13 rating. Toned down for teh kiddies? Huh, yeah, I'll be playing Max Payne 2. Again.

Too bad James McCaffrey doesn't have the "star power", he would have been a great choice for the lead. The voice at least would have been perfect... :)

That wasn't a snow machine. They're filming in Toronto and we just had a mammoth 36-hour snowstorm. I actually bumped into a crew filming the movie downtown at night last Wednesday. They were trying to keep it quiet, but the "Max Payne Lunch Tent" sign leading to a small corridor in a quiet mini-mall gave them away. I would have Kotaku Stalkued, but had no camera.

Pretty spot on casting, for my money. Ol' Marky's done some good work... though it couldn't have hurt to work on the chisled look a little harder. Considering Max Payne was basically a movie anyway, this stands more chance than most ever will.

Massive fan of both the MP games. If they follow the plot of the original game they could really be onto a winner. I loved all the norse mythology references that underpinned the first game and if they are carried over well it could be well worth seeing.
