Now he has to carry a helmet with his still-vulnerable XBOX 360 (RROD). :( Also, it'll be kinda weird asking other industry people to sign something related to a specific game that they weren't involved with. The platform (XBOX360) made more sense because more game industry folks are involved with the platform.

I guess I'm just saying that I'd feel recognized, but not fully compensated if I were in the same situation. It would've been pretty easy for people in their position to give him a Halo Special Edition XBOX 360 with signatures and art in addition to a few other things. Making sure it incorporates a Falcon board would limit the chances of it failing/ever happening again while giving him the opportunity to upgrade to HDMI. That's something he couldn't do before when he was stuck as an early adopter with an XBOX 360 that could be replaced.

One, Bungie's care package is indeed generous, but it's mostly just stock schwag (other than the signatures on the helmet and soundtrack). I'd have hoped they'd spring for some special one-of-a-kind artwork, but it appears that all they did was gather up Halo and Bungie stuff that was just lying around the studio. Granted, it beats the heck out of what he got from Microsoft. Speaking of, that's the other thing. All he's gotten back from them is a response noting that a "wash-down" process is indeed a customary part of the RROD warranty service...but that it seemed unusual that someone wouldn't think it'd be a bad thing to scrub the artwork and signatures off the case.

I wonder, if you send in a 360 that's covered in vinyl skins, do they "scrub" the skins off as well? It'd be beyond hilarious if Nate's refurb 360 RRODs after he's applied those Bungie-supplied vinyl skins and he ends up getting his 360 back, again with a nearly-pristine white case.

He did get his original 360 back, though it's possible the case might have been replaced. He wrote down the serial number and checked it against what was returned to him, and the numbers matched.

You have them do things like this and then go off and do charities, and you have to respect the company that A) Made first person shooters on console so readily availalbe, B) Helped keep Xbox Live running at such high numbers and C) keeps hope alive for people thinking that it's ALL about the money and you can sit back and realize this is not just a cool thing, it's special.
I think we shouldn't belittle it by considering ways to SCREW those who offer a helping hand. Let's not all run out and autograph out shits so it defects. Though I question the legitimacy of anyone being ABLE to do that.

I think the best solution to destroying one's memories is to provide them new ones that would be equally cherished. In this case, they should have flown this kid out to Bungie studios and let him collect all of those autographs himself. Then they would have meaning.

I still think that this is just another internet scam. I think anyone who sends off their precious custom piece of electronics for repair is a complete moron or a scammer. I can't remember who originally did the artwork on his 360 (think it was the guys at Red vs Blue, those guys are brilliant btw) but just the signed Halo 3 legendary helmet alone is worth more than his old signed 360. Then add in all the other stuff they've given him and hes done amazing.

But does Bungie giving someone free stuff really make up for the douche-baggery of Microsoft in this case? Think about it - this wasn't a simple error - someone working under Microsoft (either an MS employee or someone working for a company hired by MS to do repairs) had to work really hard to scrub the signatures off this guy's 360. This guy needs to be held accountable... another company sending free stuff (no matter how cool that stuff is) comes no where near to making up for what this guy did.

If it were an accident, that'd be one thing - but I don't see any situation where this could have been done without malicious intent.
