I would humbly suggest you don't really understand the appeal of a game like this or cooking mama. AT ALL. Playing a fun cooking game about a TV show competition about cooking is NOT the same thing. And frankly, while everyone can cook, the amount of materials and effort involved to do THIS kind of cooking is not the same kind of investment of time, energy and effort. I don't want to acquire several hundred dollars worth of cooking equipment and foodstuffs and then teach myself or be taught to do Haute Cuisine. And I'm certainly not getting Iron Chef Morimoto to drop by my kitchen to compete against me.

And what makes you think that people who play this game DON'T cook or would somehow want to cook if they didn't play this game? At worst, this game might awaken a passion for it in them, the same way as many people have started taking guitar lessons AFTER getting fever from Guitar Hero. How is that in any way BAD?

Everyone has opinions. And opinions, by definition, cannot be wrong, only different than someone else's.

I like both the original and the Iron Chef America.

I used to laugh every time the guy on the kitchen arena floor in the original would get the attention of the MC. He would say something sounding like, "kabba-san." I don't know Japanese, but it was always something like that. For the longest, I thought it was all a joke. The over the top voice-overs couldn't be for real, could they? Perfect television for watching at 3 in the morning when you just got home from the pool hall and are feeling pretty buzzed while you're sitting there with a half eaten Whataburger and fries in front of you...

I also like ICA. Alton Brown is my cooking hero. Part chef, part scientist, part dork. I do think they are getting a little overboard on the number of Iron Chefs though. What they up to, about 20 of them now? But I think the show is better produced and has more of a frenzied, hurried atmosphere. My wife and I TiVo a lot of programs, but ICA is the only one I look forward to each week and am truly disappointed when it is a repeat.

So to everyone saying this one is better than that one and if you like that one you're a stupid pile of steaming sea urchin: Shut Up and quit getting into fanboy arguments on the internet. Grow up and realize someone might not think the same way you do. It's called life. Not everyone is the same. We are not Borg.

Yes, and like The Office, it has an audience that is mostly ignorant of the original, they may know it exists but haven't watched it and were introduced to the concept by the american counterpart.

To people who are hating on this game automatically as fans of the japanese show, I say this: Shouldn't you be happy if even just a handful of people who watch the american show and game then go out of their way to seek out the original and watch it? If its better the vast majority of those handful will then be like you, fans of the original over the new as well.

Like a port of an old game series, look at these shows as possible gateways into your shared addictions, rather than enemies.

Unless the new version just completely, totally sucks, of course. I don't care for Iron Chef America and haven't watched the original, but I can't imagine ever liking a show about cooking; doesn't mean I have any antipathy towards those of you who obviously do, or my Fiancee who obviously does, hence me seeing it at all ;)

Look guys, if you want to cook, go into your real kitchen!!!!Seriously, take a cook book, find a recipe you think you will like, go buy the ingredients, and try to make it! Cooking is something everyone should have basic skills for, and it's not impossible to learn. If anything, learning to cook can help you a lot when you have no money. Not only that but you can impress your loved one by cooking them a nice dinner for two.

A game like this just seems pointless. Why not actually cook instead of fake cook...plus you actualy get to eat in real life...
