It seems to me that Blizzard games and Sims games have dominated PC Top-Selling lists for some time now. I don't know if they've always been half of the top 20 or what, but their dominance isn't really surprising to me.

The fact that I can still buy Diablo and Warcraft II new in box is pretty astounding. Off the top of my head, I can think of only Neverwinter Nights and some Lucasarts games as comparably available. I wonder how publishers would fare if they released and supported some choice titles from their back catalog?

Shevek

If you think about it, the USA alone has over 164,100,000 PC's. This covers every type of gamer imaginable. I don't see how a logical person would look at a PC games sales list that doesn't include digital distribution and be suprised at the games purchased.

Also, games have a much longer life on the PC than on consoles. Just look at number 13. Battlefield 2 is over a year old. Even though I think UT3 is a poor game, I would not be suprised to see it on this list next year.

A good example of the complexety of PC gaming is people who play simulations. This is an entire subculture of people that have high end machines, and all they do is play flight and racing sims. I think that is great, but the games they buy won't show up on a top selling list.

My point is on the consoles, most everyone will pick up a big title like MGS4, or Gears2. On the PC the majority of gamers don't play FPS, so they just won't purchase that game. The market is divided between many genres and it really always has been. That does not mean PC gaming is dead.

homernoy

We know that the OB is selling like hotcakes on PC, much more so than the console versions, yet it's not making a huge presence on this list at all. Just another reason why the NPD is sorely lacking on this side of the aisle.

Sins should top out the list next month, as it's already sold 100k in about 3 weeks, but they have their own DD store on their website which won't be counted on this list, either way, excellent numbers for such a small developer, loving the game.

dozerking
