		    <description><![CDATA[<p>I'm assuming here that they're using a modified version of the CryEngine 2 for Far Cry 2, rather than building one from the ground up. Because that's an awful lot of work to put into something that works almost exactly like Crysis.</p>

		    <description><![CDATA[<P>@<A href="#c4423934">Witzbold</A>: Wow, like an extra-hardcore version of ArmA.  Honestly, I would have gotten into ArmA had it not felt so "floaty".  It might have just been because it has pretty harsh system requirements though.</P>
<P>On the topic of the original post, I love the concept and I have no idea why people are complaining about the lack of "realism".  Look at the increased level of interactivity with the environment and tell me there is really a reason to complain.  That is one of the strong features that Far Cry 2 has been running with: interactivity.  I, for one, embrace it.</P>
<P>As for health regen, I never really had any issue with it.  I always kind of considered it to be adrenaline kicking in and getting over the initial shock of being shot.  Sure, it may not be entirely realistic since you can do it over and over without being patched up, but that is how I justify it.  I never played Resistance, but the aforementioned idea of a health bar broken up into segments that allows for limited regen sounds like a not-so-bad alternative, or any system of limited regen could be an interesting move.  I still have this thing against the concept of a "health bar" in general though, as I am getting more and more used to HUDs with limited to no overlay.</P> <p>Yuki</p>]]></description>

Trees do not need to GROW. If I leave an area in a game and come back in what is supposed to be 6 months in the game, then new vegetation should just be BE there. <P>Also, what is the point of tree growth? Why is it there at all? Is Far Cry 2 now in a persistent world like WOW. Are we going to be able to spend weeks in the same area to witness vegetation regrow over time? Not likely.</P>

<p>I kinda wonder what use it is for the game. I mean, sure, regenerating trees look cool, but you can just restore them when the person leaves the area and returns, and spend development time on more important things. Its you either try to run all the way across and pray nothing hits you or drop flat and try to put up a pathetic attempt to fight back from where you are.</p>
<p>I tend to be either prone or crouching most of the time. Only sprinted in very short tiny bursts after making sure it was totally clear.</p>

<p>I thought Resistance was on the right track, with four regenerating sectors. Uncharted is also hard enough to not let you become dependent on returning to cover, the amount of head shots i suffered in the latter half was painful.</p>

<p>I miss my lifebar and the real fear of death while wandering around with a sliver of health left instead of being able to duck behind a corner then suddenly my wounds all close up.</p>
<p>Then again thats just an personal irritation Ive been having reciently with FPSes in general. Granted the life displayed in terms of numbers and healing items to fix yourself up isnt any better, but it does help add a bit more tension, granted it can cause stress too on a different level with game design / mechanics.</p>
<p>Im just saying that in general its kinda sad to see how many devs are following that though.</p>

<p>I can see this video showing off what the engine can do, but if that "tree regeneration" makes it in to the final game, it just seems pointless. It looks weird because it's just so unnatural, and it seems that that would detract from the point of having destructible environments in the first place.</p>

		    <description><![CDATA[<p>That is terrible if the trees truly regenerate in-game. Kind of takes the point out of being able to break them in the first place.</p>
<p>Maybe he is using depleted uranium bullets with organic regenerator nanomachines!.</p>
<p>I don't think people necessarily want perfect realism (I know I don't) but some things are just silly and look too stupid to add to the game. That is not some sort of stylized tree with awesome regen mechanics a la say Okami. That is just a way for the devs to not have to track which trees and enviromental pieces have been destroyed by resetting em. No different from vanishing corpses and about as annoying.</p>

I for one don't want the game to slow down in the middle of a fire-fight because someone shot a tree and the engine has to mass the branch and perform some extra physics calculations. Why don't we calculate the bullet's deflection and compensate for gravity and the curvature of the earth too? 		    <description><![CDATA[<p>On Realism:  Video games aren't realistic.  Normally when people get shot they can't just keep running around after the fact like nothing happened.  Hiding behind a rock and counting to 10 doesn't magically heal you, nor will touching a medkit fix your broken leg.  When people get shot they don't go flying through the air like they were hit by a car either, and if they DID Newton would like to have a word with the shooter.  Since most video games follow the "Action Movie" school of realism I guess I just don't see the problem with the branches flying off like that.</p>
<p>On the demo:  The trees regrowing is cool, but I guess I just don't quite get why you'd want that right now, even at a slow speed.  I can see it being useful if you want to keep a look for a certain place (i.e. keep a forest thickly forested), but I guess I'd have to see what they are actually going to do with the tech before I make a decision on it.</p> <p>NateN</p>]]></description>

<P>I think it looks cool, although slightly silly how easy the branches break. However I prefer OTT destruction to games of old where everything is indestructable. I love destructable environments.
