In my opinion you guys are getting screwed By Sony and Kanami. Theres no way in hell I would pay extra for the online part of the game. It cost more than a whole year of Xbox Live. Im afraid you are all blind to see whats really going on. PSN isn't free. Its just too bad a few companys are doning this shit. Its a good start to destroying the way games are made. You guys almost praise them. Its just plain stupid.

@Mistrials: Hundreds of thousands of people paid 40 dollars just to play Warhawk online. And millions of people paid 60 dollars just to play Bioshock offline. So... yeah, I think this way of doing things will work out just fine for them. As I said in my previous comment, I'd rather pay 60 bucks to get to play MGS 4 "now" (so to speak), and try out the online mode and decide if I'd like to buy that when it comes out, then to have to wait even longer but get the whole package "later" for that 60 dollars. I care more about the single-player experience, and so whatever they want to do to make sure I get to play it as soon as possible is what I want them to do. I really don't care at all about Metal Gear Online, but when the beta hits, I'll try it out, when MGS 4 launches, I'll play the sample even more, and if I like it a lot, when the full game comes out, I'll buy that too. No skin off my back.

@grimdeath: Uhhh.. first of all, it isn't Konami that decides whether playing games over the PSN is free, it's Sony. Second, Sony doesn't decide whether Metal Gear Online is a separate game, Konami does. Third, it's nothing like your example. Halo is a multiplayer series. That's the staple of the series. The staple of Metal Gear Solid is the single-player experience and the story. Most people are going to buy it for that, not online multiplayer. If the multiplayer experience isn't complete because they've focused on the single-player game and story, then I'm happy, because it means I finally get to play MGS 4's story. I would much rather it be going down as it is than to have to wait another couple of months to play the story just because they wanted to finish creating an online experience, too. I care more about the single-player story campaign, the online component is just the icing on the cake. And you get a sampling of the online content for free, too. Warhawk is a standalone online game, which is well worth its cost. Metal Gear Online will likely be a worthwhile, appropriately valued online-only experience when it comes out. I see absolutely nothing wrong with them doing it this way. In fact, I wouldn't have it any other way. As I already said, if it's between getting the single-player game "now" (so to speak) and an online game later (that I have to pay extra for, and can choose whether I even like it or want it by playing the sampling that comes with said single-player game)... or waiting until later just to play that single-player experience, and also getting the online mode free... well, I take SINGLE PLAYER NOW, and optional online game later.

MGS4 is looking pretty cool, definitely a preorder. I however do not understand how they can try and charge separately for MGO.... the hell? i thought MGS Online came as part of the game. So not only do we suffer trough microtransactions, the next thing of the nextgen consoles is buying parts of the games as separates? Yesyes, I'm well aware of paying for live and episodic contents have been around for along time, just that this seems "wrong" to me. Kind of like Buying the Next Final fantasy, only to find out that certain sidequests can only be accessed after you buy an access key or something.

maybe its not as bad as I envision, but being a MGS fan this seems silly. i know that the online part in MGS3 came only with the later special edition, but goddangit...ok, I'll stop now...

Yikes! So much for Blu-Ray being able to hold more data than a DVD. That only works if the game developer actually wants you to have both aspects of the game on one disc and for one price.

First people are happy about paying $100 for GT5:P and GT5. Now people are happy about paying $120 for the full Metal Gear experience.

I really hope that this isn't a taste of what is to come. :( I like having the single player and multiplayer games in one $60 package.
