thats actually a good idea, apple does the same with old ipods. Sony would have to be the one to do this not the retailers. As far as the launch thing. The lawsuit really messed them up. They won't admit it (and they should have) i doubt the ps3 controller was sooo light on purpose. theres just ALOT of etra room in there. They got rushed to market by microsoft. simple as that. It wasn't ready. Although looking at the 360's failure rate, they should have waited too...

Then the price would be easier to swallow for people switching over. After that, they should start being bundled with the PS3, so people who don't have a PS3 after all this time can hold out a bit longer and get it then. By then, any extra controllers you're getting should've either replaced the Sixaxis price, or they'll just be $5 more than what you were originally planning to pay for.

The problem in the above idea is, of course, that Sixaxis would be out-dated, current-gen tech, unlike my console example, which means places would just have an over-abundance of Sixaxis controllers that they can't get rid of.

I mean, I'm pretty annoyed that they didn't have this at launch, and I find the price unreasonable (for controllers in general, not just for the DS3), but there should be some way for Sony to control this, beyond making the thing cheaper. People looking to replace their one controller might shrug it off and buy it, but I can see people who already have multiple controllers not wanting to spend that type of money again.

And that would have done what exactly? The Dual Shock 3 wasn't released in Japan until November 2007, a year after the PS3 was first released and 8 months after the thing was settled. If Sony had only waited until the settlement was over you'd still would be getting the sixaxis out of the box, they would have had to delay the system for an 8 months while the controller was built. Ask yourself, is rumble really that important that Sony should have waited an entire year before putting out the PS3?

But considering they basically offer replacement batteries for free the last time I'd heard, and the alternative is... a whole different console, I'll be getting one. Rumble is very much needed, especially for GT. GT HD concept just doesn't feel right without rumble - especially when I go back and play GT4.

But really, I'd expect around $40 historically for a Sony controller - living in Canada. The Wiimote is actually shockingly cheap - unless you realize it's only half there without a nunchuk.

Game's like Uncharted take on a whole new flavor because the rumble is really distinct for each of the weapons in the game.

It also performs Six Axis as well.

Every one of my game's including Launch games all rumble now and it is soooo worth it.

The reason why it's 5 bucks more is very likely because the controller needed a stronger battery due to the vibration sucking up power (The sixaxis uses only .111 watts, the DS3 uses 10 times that).

From my standpoint it's worth the money they're charging for it, and in my eyes it actually seems like an entirely different controller rather than an upgrade of the SIXAXIS.

Most people expected the Dual Shock 3 to take over the Six Axis' $50 price point, with the Six Axis dropping in price, which would mean that things would only have improved from a value standpoint. As it stands, nothing has improved, and you can import one for the same price... Which is silly, considering the importer is already charging a markup over what the product was sold for in its country of origin.

I was in the Philippines so I bought one there for about 75 bucks. Yeah it wasn't cheap, but cheaper than if I bought it online, imported.

I can tell you the control feels solid with the added weight, and the rumble is great but not all that hyped up to be, everything else is the same. Good buy...and the battery seem to last just as long, I don't notice any difference.

So far I'm paying 50 dollars for Brawl, 60 dollars for MGS4, and now if I want to play MGS4 with rumble, the way Kojima damn well intended it, I need to pay 55 dollars more!? This is getting ridiculous.

Also the buttons are much better and the analogue sticks have been slightly redone so they aren't so sensitive. I do recommend getting one and I think the price is justified since it does feel much much better when playing games. Also, the rumble itself is nice and subtle and not RSI inducing...

I imported 2 of the DS3 last December and have been unable to get them to reliably work with my Nyko charging base. (I even bought a new charge base thinking the first had died.)

In both cases the charge base works great when I only have the original controllers connected, but as soon as I connect a DS3 all the lights go wonky and no matter how many ways you try to adjust it (even if the charging lights indicate they are charging) it usually doesn't work (-_-)

The only problem with that comparison is that back then, the controllers were cutting edge, the components for the console and additional hardware were expensive.

I don't see anything expensive going into the Dualshock 3. At the most it should cost as much as the Wii Remote on it's own, and even that has more expensive component inside than the DS3.

Since you actually have the choice to get a wired controller for the 360 that comes with rumble anyway, and you don't HAVE to buy a battery pack if you get a wireless one.
