I'm totally all about paying for a service that I feel is worth it. You pretty much said it all. XBL is just plain worth paying that $~4/mo for. The infrastructure that they've set up is second-to-none. You can't keep up that quality without paying someone. It's similar to MMOs. The better MMOs are the ones that have paid staff who's sole job is to field the countless complaints and issues that arise in day-to-day dealings.

Yes, just like with any huge undertaking, there will be days where things aren't happy. I, along with hundreds of thousands of others, were rightly torqued off at MS when we couldn't use XBL for the better part of a month (or more, for some). But I just take it in stride. The vast majority of the time, it's been a blast. They've provided a robust infrastructure that allows developers to do lots of fun things.

I'll defend paying for XBL to the hilt.

However, I don't for one moment believe that they are doing this out of the goodness of their heart; they are out to make money, just like any profitable business is.

"If you build it, they will come." MS built it, and we've bought it. Free Market 101: Something only costs too much if no one buys it.

What about those new free Korean games? Well, they're paid for by ads being placed in the game or by the player paying for upgrades, items, character slots.

You apparently skipped over my reasoning why 360 owners pay for LIVE and that is STANDARDS. You can equate LIVE to terrorism all you want but 360 owners are content to pay for LIVE. Your screaming and gnashing of teeth will never let you see why.

There is a unified friend's list for all users and easy to navigate in-game method of playing music, adding friends, joining games, sending messages/voice/video, and of course matchmaking. Any of these things alone doesn't make the service that special but when it's standardized all together across all games then it becomes something that LIVE members don't mind paying for.

The people running PSN need to really look at why 360 owners are willing to to pay to use LIVE. Once PSN gets to that point then we as LIVE subscription payers will see a drop in our service charge (maybe free) as there will be greater competition from PSN and SONY.

what i do is go to kmart/target/walmart/w.e store and look for the subscription cards that were used for the old xbox because they work for the 360 and they usually have them on clearance for $9.99 or less :) got 3 1 year cards for less than $30
