Yeah, that was pretty great. Bleep whatever. The commentary was spot on. Comparing the 360 to a drunken singer = awesome.

So, yeah, about Yahtzee's succeess... it's only a bad thing if it causes him to lose his edge. He's at his best when he's, cranky, rabid, sounds like he hasn't eaten a square meal in a couple of days and is two beers and a shot of whisky into his daily bender. If he makes too much money from this, he'll be well-fed on a regular basis. And content with with life.

When I said I felt he might have sold out a bit it wasn't the bleeps. I think the guys wit is strong enough to survive a PG-13 presentation. It was that the bite normally directed at the gaming companies wasn't directed at them, rather it was directed at the gamers themselves. It almost felt like he was pandering a little to the audience.

I know this will cement the award for paying too much detail, but the Nameless, Faceless Man from Bioshock had both. While his face only shows up in poor photographs plastered on a wall (To which I can understand him essentially remaining faceless) the letter at the beginning of the game on the airplane clearly reads: "Dear Jack, would you kindly..." and the rest is obscured by his cigarette smoking hand.

You guys seriously still hear the bleeps? I've grown up with so much bleep this and bleep that and bleeping bleepaphones that I don't even hear them anymore. The problem with the bleeps isn't that they censor out the words. The problem is that they are loud and annoying, and they catch you off guard just enough to make you somewhat lose track of what he's saying. If they made them more subtle, I don't think it would be a problem.

For those mystified about why the beeps bother some people, perhaps I can explain. When something is bleeped out, it is because someone else took a lot at a creative work by an individual and decided that the audience was too fragile/stupid/whatever to be able to handle the content like a thinking person. So they bleeped. There is no other reason behind the bleep except for an implicit insult to the audience.

Anyway, it was amusing but it didn't make me laugh - just about all his reviews have managed to make me laugh a lot. I think it's because of the presentation style, this is just lots of canned segments and it loses the flow.

Oh, I see now. We're putting age prohibition warnings on games for the DEVELOPERS, not for the PLAYERS! I didn't realize that the game developers were such utterly braindead creatures that they needed so much coddling! Makes sense, I certainly know no normal 11 year old would be harmed by Gears of War... it's just the limp-wristed programmers and corporate types that are too spineless to stand up to the ESRB because it's for their OWN good!
