try thinking of a world without miyamoto's influence, let alone him being in it. you can't.

i've tried, and i end up crying. every time. REAL TEARS.

i really don't think you can replace Miyamoto-san, you know? the man is a living legend. when he passes, it will be a very, VERY dark day. the death of the creator of mario? just the thought makes me depressed. :(

I really hope they're grooming a successor to Miyamoto. They lost Yokoi some time ago, if something happens to Miyamoto, they could suddenly be in a whole world of hurt. For as long as they've made video games, this man has been a ticket to success for them.

I think if I worked for him at the time, I'd have found it difficult not to write this one off as the DUMBEST IDEA EVER. But it seems to be working out! Gotta trust the guy, I guess. Too bad he'll never return to the kind of thinking that spawned Mario and Link.

@AntiZERO: Since ever? White bread is not particularly 'bad for you' (nor is sugar, for instance). However wholemeal bread is better because it contains dietary fibre (=good for you) and as a result it also makes you feel more full (=you eat less, =good for you if you're overweight).

If you've managed to survive the past 20 years plus (or however long you've been alive) not knowing that wholemeal bread is healthier than white, then, uh, maybe Nintendo need to give out free copies of Wii Fit in schools or something, because it doesn't look like that health education is working real well.

@creid: If you read the earlier comments, you'll notice he didn't enjoy just weighing himself - it was about drawing graphs and noticing trends. If I'm dieting I always draw a graph, yes really. :) So Miyamoto is a bit of a geek too, omgwtfBREAKING NEWS. While I wouldn't personally say that keeping a record of your weight is 'fun', seeing your weight graphed can surely be 'interesting' for those who are trying to lose weight.

@bobtheduck: Well, the casuals are keeping the Wii selling I think. And honestly, I'm sure Brawl wasn't outshadowed, and Mario Galaxy was already released, so I don't think they'd care about it as much as they would Fit or Brawl.

Sony was all over the Yoga games long before Wii-fit. Eyetoy Kinetic had yoga, kickboxing, and other exercise programs in it. Pretty nifty, if you had a big enough room with adequate lighting.

Thing is, it was introduced as a side thing, while the system was really about, you know, games... Wiifit was THE thing shown off by Nintendo at E3. Kind of gave the impression they cared more about Wiifit than they did about Smash Bros or the incredible Mario Galaxy... Which they did, because the casuals rule the Wii.

Runners like to beat their own times
Football players like to beat their own records
And you would probably feel pretty happy at a high score on something

Why is all this? Part of the reason is because it shows a level of self improvement through hard numbers. Theres none of this 'maybe im just imagining im getting better' nonsense, you're presented with hard numbers. Very beleiveable stuff.

Thus, WiiFit appeals to that sense of fun people get from trying to be better than they are, and being 'rewarded'. Its a very subconscious and primal need, but its there, for most of us.

of course, talking like this takes all the romance out of the appeal of WiiFit, but hell yes I'll be buying it anyways.

I hope the thing is very sturdy and built to last, but then, Nintendo usually build things to last for decades :)

I know I'm sold on it already, I will buy Wii Fit. I hope the balance board will get future support in Nintendo first party titles though.
