I play on PC, but I always considered it as a complement to my consoles. For me, a PC is a huge box that plays FPS and RTS. Not much else there. So yeah, I guess it's the other way around then.

I bit the bullet and paid $499 CDN before the Xmas rush in 2007 and it was worth it. Waiting 3 months for a $50 price drop wasn't worth it, as I saved that $50 (more so) during boxing day on buying tons of games. Good to see Canucks are getting a decent price now. I still dont own a 360 yet. I was waiting for a price drop, but $40-50 is a joke. It just cuts into their profits on each machine and doesnt do anything for sales. Its a fact that the vast majority of machines over their lifetime sell at Sub $250, but MS just cant get around to it. MS probably could of put the nail in the coffin of Sony with a $299 pro, but now its probably too late for that to work.

Ahhh, who am I kidding, if I give up food and school I can afford it before I die from starvation I think.

I am glad that the price finally came down to around the proper exhcange rate but sort of alarmed too. If MS was planning a price drop for the 360 in time for GTA4 they wouldn't have aligned the price in Canada. That way the price drop would have looked even more than it actually was up here in the North. This leads me to think MS won't be price dropping for GTA4 and that sucks for them as a $50 difference is actually a pretty good deal when you get the now standard HD format, Blu-ray in the PS3.

Yeah, fresh games are still $59 but you can still find used and older games for a lot less. I like hunting at video stores for pre-rented titles and bins. I got Sega Rally Revo for $29CAD a few months ago and at Loblaw's electronics section I found several PSP games I wanted at $14.99 each. Heck I found "Wipeout Pure" for $9.99. That's less than the DLC version!

Didn't compare 360 prices but the game selection looked sweet and I'm sure the prices were similar.

Saw a nice PS3 bundle at Costco today, too $399 included the 80Gb plus extra controller and "Uncharted". Not bad. Not bad at all.

Too bad Sony realized Canada's dollar reached parity back in November, as the PS3's been priced the same in Canada and the US since since then. Microsoft would've done well to adjust the price before the holidays, but seems they're behind the times.

Software isn't likely to go down in price quickly in Canada because the stock was imported at the old exchange rate- they won't want to sell games at a loss, so the prices likely will stay high on pre-parity software. New releases are priced mostly the same on both sides of the border.

Little bit of trivia here for gamers complaining about the price of the PS3: when the PS2 launched in Canada our dollar was at a low, and the system retailed for $449 (in Ontario at the time, with tax that came out to $517.49).

I lined up overnight for hours on Boxing Day 2006 just to get my 360 pro bundle for $399 Canadian. Seeing as how it's just hitting $349 now, I still feel somewhat justified :)
Except for the fact that I froze my nuts off. And had to resort to peeing in a Home Depot shopping cart parking area while my friend held my spot in line.

I am a hardcore gamer and never had a PS2 either. Had a SNES, PS1 and then went Xbox. And I could only afford to support one console at the time. By the time I could afford a PS2 as well, I was so invested in Live and things like Halo I just never got around to one.

I still don't see the need for multiple consoles, though I have PS3 and 360 now, but only because I won the PS3. Glad I did because I like it a lot, but I never would've bought one, likely, just because of the expense of having two and stuff to play on both.

These prices have been in effect at Future Shop, Best Buy and Wal-Mart in Canada for several weeks now. I guess they started adjusting as soon as the older stock was depleted. Yeah we could use a price drop on the marketplace points, especially because there's no "stock". I suspect they just enjoy gouging us and will continue to do so for as long as possible.

I really hope that's sarcasm. I didn't own a PS2 until two years ago and since then I have only owned 5 or so games that I really enjoy. A lot of people, sadly, started gaming with the PSX or PS2 and never got a chance to play SNES or NES games and the SNES is the best system ever in my opinion.

I think another round of price drops are coming before next holiday, but not until the big three sees what GTA IV does for console sales. It'll still be interesting to me to see if exclusive GTA stuff on 360 sways any buyers. It wouldn't sway me, but I am not big on GTA.

After that, I could see price cuts for everyone except Wii, of course, which they wouldn't drop until the demand slows some time in 2020 or whatever.

I don't really plan on getting a 360, at least not for awhile. There aren't a lot of games that interest me on it right now. XNA is awesome news though, and will definitely help my decision but I am not getting one for awhile. And as much as I dislike Sony, PS3 is more of a priority than a 360. Besides the terrible controller, look of the system, and state of multiplatform games, I would rather get one than a 360 for two reasons: Metal Gear Solid 4, and Little Big Planet. Also, the PS3 doesn't have a %16 fail rate.

@ShinyNew: Get a price match. If it's within 2 weeks, whatever store you got it from should honor a price match. If they don't, return the system and buy a new one at the cheaper price.

Remember when Peter Moore said that his ideal customer is would who would rather not eat for a week so that they could buy a 360 and an HDTV?

Um, doesn't this just bring this down to the pricing in the US? I believe Sony did that a while back so it's about time Microsoft did the same. Canadians shouldn't be screwed over when it comes to pricing, especially considering their dollar is stronger than the US.

I'm still deciding between 360 and PS3. I'll definitely be picking up a system this year, depending on which system has the better fall line-up.

@Seiryuu: Actually, Sony already did this. This is nothing more than a price drop to account for the exchange rates. Canadians had been getting ripped off because the electronics companies hadnt adjusted their prices to the new exchange rates.
