Late to the party, obviously, but Magic could have some pretty good movies in it; certainly the novels for the last few 'blocks' of expansions have been pretty decent. Not great literature, but good midlist fantasy/manapunk.

They probably won't happen. Looks like Universal is just scrambling to get all the Hasbro properties that Paramount hasn't already bought. After the unexpected success of Transformers, who can blame them?

Although, any moron could know that none of the properties they bought has the selling power of GI Joe/Transformers. Seriously, Stretch Armstrong? What, is this 1992? Didn't they stop making them when kids were getting poisoned by the corn syrup in his arms and legs?

@requinox: I actually think MTG would work better as some sort of miniseries. The main plot (by which I mean the Dominarian-Phyrexian war; God, I'm a nerd) is probably too expansive to be contained in a crappy two-hour movie.

Monopoly would probably work better as a full-on TV series, except instead of a car and a thimble as main characters, they'd have a group of sexually-liberated uptown women. It's all the rage nowadays.

Out of all of those, only Magic: the Gathering has anything resembling movie material, since its had a huge story arc spanning several years, and these days smaller story arcs for each set of cards.

If there are books on the Magic universe, then it's entirely possible to make a movie on one of them. Or even to churn out an original movie. My only concern is that they'll try too hard to adhere to card game mechanics and it will just end up an awkward mess.

Monopoly on the other hand... I have no idea how they can turn something like that into a movie. Even Clue had a line of mystery novels.

As just mentioned, Clue is basically a mystery "who done it?" type of board game, which is much easier to transform into a movie. What kind of plot could be made from Monopoly and still keep the board game concepts alive?

Basically you'd have people in New Jersey who are buying up property, taking over boardwalk, etc.. Maybe they could turn it into a Mafia type movie, like The Sopranos

They made an Ouija based movie called Witchboard, though that has never stopped hollywood from making the same thing twice or more. If they make a movie based on monopoly Bill Gates would make a great casting choice.

i'd be happy with a Stretch Armstrong movie...so long as he still bleeds corn syrup like in real life. Magic, The Gathering will be the next Dungeons and Dragons movie. Candyland? Kids'll love it. Ouija wont be a movie, its impossible, but monopoly? not sure. How about another Clue movie people.
