I remember playing rf1 multiplayer all the time and it was great. That was until everything was taken over by modders. with the new RF coming, there should be lots better protection.

What I am real excited about, though, is the fully destructible environment. After reading GameInformer, it is saying how everything is exactly detailed not just to look real on the outside but to actually have all the pipes and support stuff on the inside of the walls and stuff.

Also, with all this stuff being able to just collapse on you, I kinda think 3rd person would fit this game well, though I was a bit skeptical about it at first. It might not be quite as real, but it serves for better gameplay that is a lot more fun IMO.

I'm almost sure this game will be one of the more impressive games out there for this gen. The idea of all the destruction being based off of one large super realistic physics engine is a great leap in realism. Of course, I'm probably going to get it for the PC because I prefer first/third person shooters on the PC IMO. It's a lot easier to manage aiming and stuff without the fixed, robotic speed of moving and stuff. Also going online would be a lot less of a hassle and less money too. I can see lots of fun times coming out of this game and am looking forward to it.

DarthYoda

I have been waiting a long time for red faction to make a new version of their game. Red Faction was one of my most favorite PC shooters. You can't fight as well in 3rd person as in 1st person. I hope red faction gives this game a 1st person shooter option. I will not buy any shooter that is in 3rd person.

marcandliz

Comment on THQ Makes Red Faction: Guerrilla Official I do not like 3rd person shooters. You can not fight in 3rd person as you can in first person. Red Faction was one of my favorite games. I been waiting for a long time for a new Red Faction Game. But, if there isn’t an option to use first person, I will not buy it. Sad.

@BANGBANGBLAH
Well let me ask you this - where did all cover systems before Gears get inspired from? Point is, it's a system that's been used enough times independant of any hyped up game like Gears to point the "copy" finger at. Sure you can connect that Gears sold well so developers would want to get in on the cover action. However, is it reasonable to say ALL games are copying Gears?

Portal came out after Prey and they both use a portal concept, but no one would dream of saying Portal copied Prey. Just because a game used a feature previousley doesn't mean that all games after it are coyping that game; just because it's the easies possibility doesn't make it a fact.

If the gameplay at large was indicative of Gears, you'd have more of a case. Red Faction 3 only has this one feature in common, so I just don't see the 'this is fact' mentallity. Plausible? I guess. Fact? Not in the least.

Garro

Okay, so:
A. Gears becomes one of the first major next gen titles to have been released and gets a ridiculous amount of hype thanks to Cliffy B and his 'Unreal' history with games.
B. The resulting lack of Next Gen games (and systems) forces a significantly larger amount of sales than there should have been.
C. And because it's made such a massive amount of money, it's getting credit for a game mechanic that's been around for quite a bit longer than the game itself....

Nice.
I loved the original (on the pc), well... it was a mixed bag... I loved the concept, the geo-mod, the guns, basically most of it.... hated the fact that so little of it was spent in the mine (hated it with a passion, since the mine was what Red Faction was, really, all about (not really, i suppose, but anyone who likes this game should know what im talking about.)

Glad to hear that its returning to the mine routes. Can't say I cared too much for RF2. Lets hope it is mostly in environments akin to the best part of RF (the beggining).

Well see how the third-person goes. Cant say im sad for it (nor am i glad)... its not what i was expecting. (hope you can carry more thebn 2-3guns. Unrealistic? yes. is hammerspace awesome? certainly. Its a videogame.

I still want to see a game that can do cover properly in the first-person. I can envision it; but I have a feeling to make it excellent you would need some crazy animation. (think Uncharted; but more organic (I did only play the demo at my buddy's so i may not be being fair. It wasnt what i was imaginig, though. It did not feel as realistic as i thought it would have.

Another thought: they should remake the first one on the Wii (with more mine-age) and allow for balence board dodge support (like police 911, in the arcade).
That would be killer.

Yeah, also, the destruction works well with the cover.

Isnt that what they are doing for gta4, also?

SadSadSamus

3rd person? Meh. What a crazy move. The first Red Faction did it for me with a split-screen multiplayer level with 2 opposing bases, where you could fire rockets at about 85% from the ground (i.e. near vertical) and they would come back down in a barrage at your opponent's base. This made for some crazily tactical gaming. In the second one, the same tactic did not work as they would hit a "solid sky" and not come down. Shame.

I will always prefer 1st person games to 3rd person as they feel more "real". Disappointed with this approach, am I.

Ungruntled

I never liked the old ones but this one might be good since next gen tech is a lot better so if they really flesh out the geometric destruction otherwise it'll be a little bit of a wasted oppertunity.
