Who gives a damn about that character...This is a movie where the target audience is more likely fans of the Street Fighter franchise. For the most part fans of the franchise most adore Ken and Ryu. Sure there are movies that have covered Ken and Ryu's past. But there haven't really been any that made any forward movement, why not do that? Take Ryu and Ken and instead of giving us history we already know in a new medium, take the opportunity and develop the characters, that fans love best.I'm sure plenty of us would love to see Akuma hit the big screen and battle with our favorite characters.Out of enemies its apparent that Akuma has more allure than M.Bison. Wouldn't that be amazing, to have Ryu, Ken, and Akuma in a new forward moving adaptation of the francise we love? Instead of rehashing the story of a character that isn't even the most adored by fans.

As much as Ryu and Ken are the main veterans of the franchise, their back story holds no water for a movie. Ryu's conflict with Akuma would be better but their fight would involve alot of fighting and special effects and exploding earth which I doubt the producers are aiming for.

Then again, it's better than what Hollywood was TRYING to do when they wanted Kiera Knightley or J.Alba to be Chun Li. *Shudder* This movie is going to be terrible no doubt, but casting one of those two as Chun Li would've been the only surefire way to keep me as far away from the theatre as humanly possible.

The only way to make a movie of a video game that has so much history in it's characters, is to take one character and go from origin to finale. In this case it looks to be Chun Li. That's a start. But a quick check on IMDB and the writer who's doing the adaptation... well, he's got his name on stuff I've never heard of.

I always thought of it as some sort of underground fighting league during street fighter 2's era. Throw out all that shadowlou shiat, and just focus on the guts and glory part.

Also, ditch any outfit you'd not expect people to actualy wear to a fight, and all the 'special' moves, for the most part.

It's perfectly fine to be disappointed with an adaptation of anything, especially this. It'll probably be bad. Who cares? It's based on a game where Martial artists throw fireballs at bear wrestlers. It's hard to make that cool in anything but gaming and animation, which we already have (and with any luck, we could continue to have if this proved to be a success).

However, that wasn't really my point. If you want to argue that it's not a sign of stunted intellectual and emotional growth to take a bad adaptation intensely personal, to have it "rape your childhood" as we often see stated, then by all means go for it. If you also want to argue that the general milieu of gaming /comic fandom is not one of frequent hyperbole, drama and all-around diaper pissing then feel free to try to defend that as well.
There's a big difference between aknowledging that something probably won't be up to par with your expectations and having a large portion of what you perceive to be your identity wrapped up into something as trivial as this.

I've seen music fans whine when their favorite song is sent to an abattoir on American Idol. I've seen Shakespeare fans still cringing at Baz Luhrmann's 1996 modernization of Romeo and Juliet, despite its success. Immaturity isn't limited to a select group. People tend to exaggerate the awfulness of the Street Fighter film, but many weren't wrong in wanting something better.

You speak of the absurdity a flawlessly accurate rendition of the game would be on screen, but by that same token: What was stopping the film makers from taking a route that didn't have to be so overwhelmingly offensive to the intelligence of movie goers who were likely well above the silliness the film was intended for. X-men didn't have people walking around in exact replicas of their comic counterparts clothing and uttering the (admitting) immature dialog of the comics. The developers of the SF: Animated Movie took the same -at the time- storyless concept, and managed to make it far more compelling than the film ever was. Hell, even if the animated film couldn't get a decent story right, it at least had excellent fight scenes; why couldn't the film pull off the one thing it couldn't get wrong? Because it was just a tie-in and the producers treated it as such. A quick way to earn a buck by capitalizing off the games popularity without a hint of effort. Street Fighter deserved better than that.

This isn't an example of fandom whining over not getting the scene-by-scene, word-by-word, impossible to emulate adaptation that they prayed to the cinema gods to make happen: It's held in infamy because they could have done better. I'm a HUGE SF fan myself, and have since learned to take the film as is, but I won't be the first to trample on another fans disappointment. Perhaps you can do the same.

Rick Yun as Gen makes about as much sense as Chow-Yun Fat playing master Roshi; Far too young. Minor complaints aside, this film seems like it's going to be alright. Charlie being announced over Guile to make an appearance is already a plus in my book. Hopefully this, and the announced King of Fighters film, will be two successful fighter adaptations that will break the string of stinkers like MK: Annihilation and Dead or Alive.

One question does intrigue me though: Will there be a Spinning Bird Kick performed by Kreuk? Though the cheeziness of seeing it performed in live-action is beyond words, it'll put a smile on many peoples faces, including my own.

Street Fighter by nature is very, very stupid (and I say that as a HUGE Street Fighter fan) so it'll be interesting either way. Whenever I see someone kicking and screaming that their "precious childhood memories" have been tainted by something like a movie, it just sorta says that their childhood was spent in front of a television and they don't actually have any valuable memories.

In other words? Stop expecting 300-style re-imaginings of Captain OG Readmore to reconcile your inner child and your inner manchild. Accepting that this stuff is innately kind of stupid to begin with, although tremendously fun, is step one in growing up.

Although Raul Julia shouldn't have been cast in the original SF movie, you can't blame him for the poor quality of it. If you ask me, he'd have made a great Bison in a GOOD SF film.

Is it me or does the whole cast sound like a mish-mash of actors you'd never think to see together in a movie that doesn't fit any of their looks? Weirder match ups have happened, I suppose.
