If national anthems were to be taken seriously by today's standards, there would be a lot more violence in France... I mean, did you ever stop and read the lyrics (I'll translate roughly for you):
"At arms, citizens, form the battalions. Let us march, may an impure blood flow in our fields."

It still is a very powerful and historically charged anthem, and I am very proud of it as a Frenchman, but you don't see me forming battalions and killing nobles...

But then wouldn't the theme suddenly cut off when Mario slides down the flagpole, lowering the flag with it? Then, in front of a stunned crowd of thousands and a worldwide audience of millions, he tips his hat and quickly retreats into the nearest castle.

I think it would make a great anthem. I personally don't care for any national anthem (I don't pledge to the flag or any of that BS), but I would totally get behind a Mario theme :D.

I hate being pedantic, but Nobuo Uematsu isn't Kondo's "colleague", he's a fellow composer (did loads of Final Fantasy stuff). I know, nobody cares. :-D Just makling it clear that this is another composer biggin up Kondo, and not a fellow Nintendo employee.
