Hmm, he could just be using simple psychology to sell his game at a high price. By making the selling price so artificially high he: draws the attention of people who would want to buy it and makes a lower price than this seem more reasonable.

So assuming he is using simple psychology and is waiting for this auction to bomb, he can just list it for 20K next time and people will buy it up in no time because 20k compared to 500k? easy choice.

Considering famous works of art sell for that much money, I can't imagine an Atari game, no-matter how rare, will be in enough demand for that kind of price. It's not, to my knowledge, historically significant other than its rarity. I could see it hitting 5 figures, but nowhere near 6.
