You know what, it looks like this guy is a Pancrase fighter. Pancrase was a fighting organization just like UFC, except they had a rule that you can only strike with an open hand(no fists), which he appears to be doing, and they also wore these big bright colored shin guards like(for kicking) that with tight shorts. The Gi he is wearig appears to be a Sambo Gi, so I'm guessing he will be a grappler/striker, but focusing on grappling.

Didn't Zangief already use a combination of Wrestling and Sambo.

That might be the official uniform for sambo, but it doesn't make good design. In fact I still hate all the Gi wearing fools in Street Fighter.

@Markyboy: Hey, looks like you may be right. I didn't know the uniform and thought it was just a vaguely silly design. I mean, I still think it's silly, but at least there's a reason for it! Though I suggest using some clarifying terms in Google unless you want to sift through pages of racist artwork. :P

As I said before, seeing these guys in action is going to make all the difference in the world. As was pointed out to me elsewhere, most of the personality in these characters is in the way they animate and their own special moves. So we'll hopefully be able to form a better opinion of Abel and Crimson Viper very soon.

Not a huge fan of Abel's character design.... but I'm kinda thinking that he's Charlie with his long hair chopped. Makes sense... no memory- Charlie supposedly died (about 3 times), has military training..
If they are referencing the Biblical account.. Abel died, as did Charlie... maybe a stretch, but we'll see.

@darthmole12: For some reason people seem to think "SNK character" and "ugly" are synonymous these days and it's starting to bug me. Outside of Falcoon's disgusting Maximum Impact designs, there aren't many KOF characters that look this bad. Sure, some of the older characters who haven't had costume updates since the early 90s might look a bit dated, but how many look this bad? Who exactly do you have in mind?

I wish I knew what they were thinking with the hair on these new guys. I mean, Abel's outfit would be bad enough even without it. Still, I'm curious to see video of how he and Crimson Viper fight. That's really what matters, right? Right?! I'm really trying to stay positive about this.

im on the fence with this one, at first i thought he was really terrible looking, rather generic, and clumsy. although im not overjoyed by this design, i dont feel so negative after i saw more shots. the shot in particular that you guys have up i think is just an ugly look for the guy.. but the cool painterly profile shot looks alright, and the one with the perspective showing off the stripes on his shoulders. still though, much better than crimson viper, and a better name too.. i hope they axe her personally. i still liked the character designs in III a whole lot and dont get why so many hate on them.. and i know i say this every street fighter post.. but man how i wish akiman was on board for this project, either him, bengus, or nishimira kinu.

SFIV is turning into a real sausage party here. Where are all the female characters? That one chick looks like a straight copy-and-paste from KOF. And I don't want some reject soccer player hopped up on viagra. This isn't Rival Schools (even though I liked that game).

Where is Cammy or Sakura? How about some SF Alpha characters like Karin or Rose? Those should fit the timeline if they made them a bit older. I'm really hoping Capcom is just saving the best characters for last. Cause right now this game looks like a lot more like SF2.5D and not SF4.

@Steel_Pelican: I'd say more likely Sambo then Judo, as the Jacket/Shorts combo is like the uniform worn in Sambo, but as there's already a Russin/Soviet grappling character in Zangief, who knows. Maybe French? The stripes match the French colours, as does the clothing (France wear blue and white in football and rugby)
