I work for the Outblaze Group, which Sanrio Digital and Typhoon Games (producers of HKO) are affiliated with. We most certainly DID detect the sarcasm on Kotaku, and we loved it so much that we reproduced it on the HKO web site thinking that the bombastic tone of the quote would be understood as hyperbole by pretty much everyone.

Apologies if you thought that we were attempting to subvert your meaning, I assure you we were not and we will be making that clearer on our media. In fact we are now working on compiling several of the funniest comments resulting from the HKO announcement, and Kotaku happens to be first on the list.

Personally I'd love a Hello Kitty MMORPG, but I'm a bit frustrated that they seem to be forcing players to have these little kid avatars that don't even look like the Sanrio art style little kids. I wanna play a chubby bunny and go around shooting heart beams at giant evil duckies!

On the up side, the non-violent mini-games and crafting system seem nice. ^.^
