both consoles are very similar
Graphically they are the same (sony's graphics promotion is mainly hype)
Sony has a better promotion team throughout europe which is why its gaining popularity, but if you weigh up the facts and do your homework it's clear that the 360 has the upper hand.

I chose xbox 360 because it went to market first, its online supremacy and the fact that sony disappoint me with their unrevised designs and "don't change what works" ideology

As an owner of both consoles (the ones that matter anyone), I've found myself at somewhat of an impasse. I'm not having any difficulty getting excited about my PS3's 2008; there's MGS4, LBP, KZ2, GT5, Resistance 2, TeamICO's game, Uncharted 2/Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier, Tekken 6/Soul Calibur 4 and a few others to get excited about. Multi-platform titles like Resident Evil 5, Tomb Raider: Underworld and GT44 I'll buy for the Playstation because that's where those franchises started and that's where they'll stay...in my house at least.

What do I have to look forward to on my 360 in 2008 (that won't be appearing on PS3)? Alan Wake, Fable 2 (now with added dog), that Silicon Knight's thing with the robot Thor? Yes, it had brilliant games (Bioshock, GOW, Mass Effect etc) up until now but what about '08?

@gamadaya: Way less content then the americans get, worse support and RROD and everything else you can think of. Also less community, with events, contests etc etc Do we even get the full extended warranty over here? As a Swedish former 360 owner I can give you an example, we don't even got a forum moderator on official xbox.com and the forums are spammed with messages like "poo".

MS have completly dropped the ball over here, and Wii is the winner with Sony being distant second second.

if that's the case, why Resistance?? there are a lot more games with default standard weapons like CoD4 but no one's complaining! as a launch title, Resistance was great and for me, still one of the best game! from my personal point of view, in terms of graphic, yes...CoD4 is more superior, but in terms of controls and game play, I choose Resistance over anything!

I've been reading these comments today with some amusement. I'll readily admit to being a bit of a Sony fanboy - and not only for gaming - but some of the comments here from 360 users are just hilariously delusional and irrational. Do you really still think the 360 is winning the PS3/360 console war in the UK?

Can I just remind you that the PS3 sold one million units a whole 13 weeks faster than the 360. That's THREE MONTHS faster. The 360 was launched with no direct competition, had the high-end 7th gen market to itself for 15 months and a much, much lower price point than the PS3 - and it STILL took longer to hit that magic mark. It needed two Xmas seasons too, the time of biggest sales (PS3 has had one in the UK).

If that is success I'd hate to see failure.....

Perhaps now the UK media for a start will stop peddling the myth that the PS3 is struggling.

What the hell is so special about the PS3 library currently that offers something different to Europeans and the Japanese that the 360 offers?

It is pretty ignorant for some of you here to say the 360 offers less when there are less titles on the PS3 than the 360 up to this point. The top selling titels on the PS3 are first person shooters. There are more JRPG's on the 360 than the PS3. There are more quality racing games on the 360 than the Ps3 at this point in time. MSG4 is not here yet, Final Fantasy is not out for another year or so, and the jury is still out on LBP as well as future 360 titles.

So please stop being closed minded douchebags and just come and say you hate everything that the 360 represents. Quit acting like Sony is a benevolent non profit corporation who thinks about you and not making money and Microsoft is pure evil.

The list you published...there is more than one exclusive title and most games on that list that are multi-platform are superior on PS3. Let me hightlight.

* 03 Metal Gear Solid 4 - Exclusive
* 04 Elder Scrolls: Oblivion - Just as good as Xbox 360 Version.
* 05 Grand Theft Auto IV - Better suited to the controller...again.
* 06 Uncharted Drakes Fortune - Exclusive
* 07 Final Fantasy XIII - Exclusive
* 08 Assassin's Creed - Just as good as Xbox 360
* 09 Burnout Paradise - Better on Playstation 3.
* 10 Rock Band - Not too sure. Probs the same.

Anyways, get a Playstation 3. Shut out the doubters and make an investment. With such great exclusives such as Killzone 2, FFXIII, MGS4, LBP and other titles coming out, theres nothing to miss out on. Also, do remember that Warhawk is a great online title, far better than Halo 3. Less hype and far more enjoyable.
Also, PSN is an open network which allows for customisation and Mods. Games such as UT3 will be better on PS3 because of the Mod Support, which M$ won't allow. The fools that they are. I expect to see the Xbox 720 out this year - which no-one will buy.

@inphanta: Now I can understand when someone brings up better games or competitive price to explain why 360 will dominate a certain market (although as many said it, Halo 3 and Mass Effect only gave Microsoft a very momentary momentum in terms of hardware sales). Well, I think Tretton predicted this turn of events. They already control Europe except UK. With Home coming, GTA4 and MGS4 supposedly coming out in Q2 or before, they should secure the market by fall at worst. Next year's FFXIII and GoW3 should finish the job. Not to mention Resistance 2. Unfortunately it will take much, much more time to get the US, if ever.

As another UK resident, I can confirm that this is just sophism. Most people I know have 360s and PS3 games occupy minimal shelf space in shops. Some dominance.

It never fails to amaze me that after 10 years of Sony lying to the public, people still hang on its every word. If Sony said their next console was powered by micro-sized, super-intelligent aliens, I genuinely think people would believe them!

Are you serious? Microsofts customer service was terrible when my first 360 died. I had to threaten them with legal action for them to get it right. Everytime I phoned them up, I ended up talking to someone in India reading (badly) from a script.

On the contrary, I got an early PSP when they were first released. I got the last one in the store and they were sold out everywhere. I had some dead pixels on the screen and knew the store wouldn't be able to replace it as they had no stock. I phoned Sony, the NEXT day they sent a courier to my front door with a replacement unit. Now THAT is customer service.

@Kyle81: When you have weapons like the rocket launcher and Flak cannon do you go back to the pistol or pulse rifle? Not often cos most weapons on UT3 are designed to be a progression in power. I've played quite a few unreal tournemant games so yeah I know what I'm talking about.

It does have a good balanced system, you can dual wield but then you lose grenades, the bigger weapons are more powerful but slower to fire and have less ammo, close range weapons are appropriately powerful at short distances and weapons that are instant kills require periods of locking on or hitting the enemy (needler, spartan laser etc.) so it balances it out more. In UT3 the rocket launcher can shoot around 3 rockets every 5 seconds, no reload in between like in Halo etc.

I still think it was a misstake to talk 2007 only at E3 but that was their choice (besides E3 sux now,) I hope they make an impressive GDC. I don't "hate" anyone even if people accuse me sometimes (being ps3, nintendo and 360 fanboy lol,) I would hate the day we are left with 2 or 1 console. If my post was full of games that were on the PC, that means you know which ones are on the PC. Which means, the other ones were not on PC. My post listed all of them, PC and non-PC, but *console exclusive* on the 360. I don't see what the point is in trying to argue with somebody that the 360 line-up is somehow not good enough, or not as good, or whatever. Both systems have amazing games coming out, and one just happens to have *more* games coming out. That's all. Personally, the 360 has more games I want to play coming out, but the PS3 has the games I want to play the *most* coming out. They're both systems that I feel I have to own as a true gamer who wants to play all the best games.

In England they gave chairs to people to sit on with a web adress leading to the 360 and in france they went with the 360 boat :P And at latest implied GTA4 is only online for the 360, they seem to deal a lot of punches today too, I bet Sony and Nintendo does it as well. @Irenicus-the one and only: Well MS used there E3 to say what was coming in 07 so you have to wait till GDC to get the news on there 08 lineup. Viva pinata on PC I'm not sure and never heard anything on Naruto being on PS3 but that might be the next Naruto fighting game (ultimate ninja) where as this is a new 360 exclusive RPG/platformer one.

The only stuff I know that is coming out in 08 or later is Halo wars, Fable 2, Alan wake, Lost odyssey and Ninja gaiden 2. Gotta wait till GDC for the proper list though.

I'm glad to see the PS3 gain confidence over in Europe. But it's not gonna be that easy to trounce the 360 over here in the States. Hear me out; this is my opinion and you don't have to agree or disagree.

I think what Sony needs to challenge MS in the US are shooters. They're to the US what RPG's are to Japan, you can't deny that. But there's a setback: the controllers. The Xbox pad is almost perfect for FPS's and I think it was designed for them in mind. Look at the thumbsticks; the 360's are indented in the middle with a sturdy ridge on the outer rim giving you better structure to make precise movements with your thumb. The PS3's are more loose and have a round surface, therefore less thumb grip. I'm good at COD4 but when I played it on my buddy's PS3 I failed completely; CoD's about accuracy and I couldn't get that like I could on the 360. Same thing happened when I used to play COD3. With that, FPS's just don't work well on the Playstations: I can safely say I've never had a worthwhile FPS experience on a Sony platform (this doesn't mean no one else has). None. Medal of Honor (PS1) and Red Faction came close, so did Resistance. I played Resistance all last summer and owned many but sniping (which is 50% of my game) was horrendously difficult (atrocious, even) and ended up playing COD2 for 360 at the end of the day. Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 will be great (8 man co-op campaign?!! BRING IT ON, BITCHES!) but I highly doubt they can make shooter fans switch consoles. I can guarantee we'll still be hooked on COD when Killzone comes out.

Plus, with the 360 snatching good Sony exclusives and being the leading platform for multiplatform games, its going to be difficult for them to overthrow MS. Hopefully LBP, Blu Ray and home can change that. But honestly, and I think I speak for alot of hardcore gamers out there, I'd rather just play a damn game of Motorstorm than chat-chit in my 'virtual apartment' with my friends, who are also as impatient as I am.

No, it didn't take FPS's for the PS2 to come out on top, but this in the States there's a new age. the age of Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4...and Wii Play (boo).

@Leyths: Yeah, hilarious. Wake up - they said PS3 sold more over the past month, and the same over Christmas, implying that before that it quite possibly sold less (and anyway 360 was on the market for a year before).

In other words although PS3 is currently selling more, there are going to be lots more people with a 360 (until it catches up, if it does). Just like how Wii sells more than 360 in the US, but that doesn't mean there are more people with Wii than 360 yet. Sony previously claimed that they would soon have equal installed base in Europe as a whole; given they're also well above 360 in most countries, but the total isn't equal, that means they must still be well behind 360 in the UK. Selling more systems in one month isn't going to suddenly change that. If they keep going for a year then maybe.

I might get a PS3 at some point (dependent on (a) some anime series I actually want being released on Blu-ray with English subtitles, and (b) Resident Evil 5) but sadly it won't be a UK one - although Sony have helpfully made the system region-free, which is good, the Blu-ray is still region-coded for some discs, so I'll have to import a US model. SIGH.

@glitched: No I did not change TVs. It was working earlier in the day yesterday as I tested playing A PS1 disc over Remote Play. It was still working when I shut it down. Then, later in the evening, I start it up and get no picture or sound. Nothing had changed over that time, it was still hooked up over HDMI. I tried the whole hold down the power button many, many times, and with the composite cables that come with it as well. It does still function as I was able to shut it down with the controller, but absolutely no picture or sound is being output. I had looked it up online and did see another case of the exact same issue that ended up as a replacement.

My concern now is the fact that I got the 80gig because I did not want to miss out on backwards compatability. If they end up replacing my system with anything less than the same configuration now that they aren't making the 80gig anymore, I am going to be extremely pissed.

Yeah alot of people here in the NL are selling there 360 for a Ps3 as well.

Personally i never cared for 90% from the 360 library, ps3 is slowly getting some interesting titles for me, Wii has like 2 games that interest me (ghost squad & no more heroes).

This generation is really sucky atm, I'll play some more on Dreamcast & PS2.

Im from the UK, I used to own a 360 along with all my mates (about 10 of them). I was the second of our group to go over to the PS3 (after 2 RROD 360's) and all the rest have followed suit. Every single one now owns a PS3, a couple still have 360's as well. but the trend that I can see is people are slowly moving over to Sony's machine.

So the PS3 outsold the 360 in January AKA the slowest sales month of the year. Kind of like bragging about being the world's tallest dwarf. Remember last summer when Sony was bragging that the PS3 was outselling the 360 in Australia. Of course that was one of the slow summer months. At the end of year when the holidays were over, the 360 handily outsold the PS3 in Australia for the year.

Must be a lot of Sony fanboys in UK if the PS3 is actually selling that much there. I'm not buying one till God of War 3 comes out, and maybe I still won't buy one.

Perhaps...I just found that the weapons in Resistance gave you a whole bunch of different ways to take out enemies. When you had a full arsenal, you really had choices as to how you could take out things. On the higher difficulty this was really apparent.

@MehGinla: I got it at launch and there wasnt really ten games that made me get it. I love halo 3 orange box dead rising Cod4 and alot of others. Really the price point of the PS3 stopped me from getting on at the time.

Me too, my friends thought I was crazy when I ditched my 360 for a PS3 but I'm glad I made the change. I love my PS3, it's nice to actually pro evo with the controller it was designed for again. And it's totally bloody silent.

Owning something by microsoft made me feel guilty to be honest. I'm a designer & musician so have always been a mac guy and it kind of stuck in my throat that I had this big ugly, noisy microsoft beast under my TV.

+ it didn't match my telly. How shallow is that?

I know it's totally lame of me isn't it!
I do miss bioshock and gears though.

Try powering on and keep holding down the power button until it beeps a second time, this will reset the PS3 to default setting and your video should work again...

Actually, in general that MS and Nintendo are also doing well is good for the industry... but it's sorta like Windows fanboys saying the Mac should die and iPod fanboys bashing the Zune and wishing for its early death.

Let the markets decide, and if they don't that means there's space for 3 console manufacturers provided their products are different enough.

@Bones_Jackson: I didn't meant they were boring altogether just boring design, you get all the standard issue stuff like shotguns and chainguns (which I get bored of seeing in every FPS) and the second fire and unique perspective thing is cool but it doesn't make them new guns. It's not different to how in one FPS you might be able to rocket jump and in another you can't, the added functionality doesn't make them suddenly great weapons.

I think that many people forget that the first few months of the PS2's UK release the console wasn't actually available in stores and had to be pre-ordered which made a complete joke of sales initially.
Compare that with the PS3 that was uniformally over-supplied (sometimes to the tune of 2-3 times what stores requested in stock)and you have a situation where (as was the case) many stores were selling the console at cost price (not RRP) just to get the things out of their stock rooms.

I really don't think that abusing your UK customer and retail base (two launches in a row) is something Sony should brag about.

I can understand your complaints about Folklore and Heavenly Sword, but your statement about Resistance's weapons doesn't hold much water.

Resistance has some of the BEST weapons ever found in a FPS. Insomniac is probably the number 1 developer when it comes to innovative weapons (see Ratchet and Clank) and is no different.

Each weapon has two modes of fire and several guns have unique takes not normally seen in the FPS genre. The Bullsye lets you "paint" a target and shoot around corners. The Auger lets you shoot through walls as well as create an energy shield. The Sniper Rifle allows you to slow time to a crawl and make perfect headshots. The Hailstorm shoots like a chaingun except the bullets richocete off of walls. The rocket launcher can stop mid-air and deploy smaller rockets that track enemies...there are plenty more, but I'll stop.

Its fine to say you were bored with it, but please don't say it had boring weapons. Thats the one thing it certainly had going for it.

Every console is quite a bit of money to invest in a product that will get excluded from some content. Because of that people get defensive and worried that they're backing the wrong horse.

DOA4, ninja gaiden 2, Oblivion (it was exclusive at first), Kingdom under fire (I was expecting another RTS), KOTOR, Jade empire, Halo 3, Perfect dark (I expected it to be better), Gears of war (was exclusive at first) and I don't have a 10th right now. I'd say Lost odyssey but I didn't buy it for that cos I didn't know it was out, coming out or expect it to come out like my other choices.

Alot of people say that they dont know many people with a PS3, i attend 6th form here in england in kent and it must be a strange place because there is 2 people with Xbox 360 and the 20+ other boys that attend all have a PS3. I can see the PS3 is starting to pick up momentum now though through out the country, this year will be the year of the PS3, there is a great line up of games coming out for it now so it will be more apealing to alot more consumers and with the price drops it seems to be of a option for the casual gamer.

Did you change TV's or are using different cables?

alot of people complain about no sound or video and not realize its because they changed TV's (different resolution support) or are using different cables. you need to reset your output settings by holding the power button for about 5 more seconds till it beeps again.
