They totally missed the boat on recovering from this by selling after-market guitars to the people their customers pass off defective discs to. All they *really* needed was some proof of purchase. Now there is no justification for the cost of the Wii Les Paul stand-alone. I mean, it's cheaper to make than the PS2 wired guitars due to even the motion sensors being built in to the controller that you already own. They used Nintendo hardware inside (Classic Controller derivative), which they may have paid a premium for, but not a premium justifying $60+.

And by the way: Activision also screwed up the sound on the PS2 version of GH3. It's in Stereo but it sounds like it's encoded at like telephone-quality or something. I have the 360 version as well and it sounds fine. What gives? Can a 360 DVD for some reason hold more than a PS2 DVD? I think not.

Their warranty service is absolutely worthless because the controllers are flawed by design, the guitars break easily and the drums are incapable of high level play. Either way, it sounds like what is happening is they are waiting to see what sort of response they get, so they can ballpark an order for replacement discs before they start churning them out.

No argument on the cord thing, and the DLC has been a little disappointing (but still better than GH3's), but really. Rock Band's done damn well for a game with so many peripherals hitting all at once. The only problems I had with it were strum bar-related, and since I live in Boston, my guitar got replaced in 24 hours.

And I'd rather deal with Rock Band's shorter but sweeter track list over GH3's excessively punk-and-metal soundtrack. No songs I like + ugly animations and characters + over-empahasis on Expert mode (I play Hard at the most) = no fun for me. So Rock Band delivers what I need.

If they did the "Send you a copy first and then you send yours back" system, people would be pissed cuz they'd have to give their CC number for the replacement, or they can have people send theirs first, not worry about it, and listen to the complaints.
